hi
I have such a soft spot for adult Sasuke who visits Akatsuki Itachi and his whole perspective on things changes. He is starved for Itachi's love. He wants Itachi to love him, protect him, acknowledge him, hold him and let him cry until all his tears dry out, and pat his back like that one evening before the news of Shisui's death took it all away. On the other hand, he sees — no, he knows — Itachi is broken beyond repair, he's ill, he has nightmares, he needs love and assurances like Sasuke does, and only Sasuke is there to notice his pain, there's absolutely nothing that can heal him because the wounds Itachi carries are too deep.
Itachi, whose instinct is always to be the protector and giver, but has nothing left to give anymore, and feels he's not worthy of Sasuke and his love after causing him immeasurable pain. He wants to hold Sasuke, he wants to protect Sasuke, he wants to be Sasuke's big brother again, but he remembers Sasuke is so lonely because of him. And the hand that wants to reach out to his little brother stops midway. Because he doesn't deserve to even be in Sasuke's shadow.
The painful push and pull, the longing, and the impossibility of their circumstances, because they want to live for each other, yet not everything is so easy.

I know I'm always going on about how unrealistic Naruto is as a father figure in next gen but Sasuke? Like I guess it could be possible that he would just act the way he ends up canonly doing but if I'm honest, I just don't think that is really how he is. Sasuke is supposed to love sakura but he never returns home to the point where sarada doesn't even know what he looks like? I feel like with starting a family, Sasuke would settle that feeling of 'I have to own up my life for the village because I tried to destroy it'. Because why would he have a family just to leave them behind? He has trauma from having lost his original family in the first place, so I think he would rather want to stay close to them than live as if he didn't have a wife and a child. I think he would at least want to stay with Sarada and guide her more and teach her, since he also always wanted his fathers approval and attention that was more focused on itachi. I think he'd want to be a better father and be there for his child. They should've put ooc as warning before Boruto cause in all seriousness, that's not how these people would act
