Boob Compress
Or to be less crassâa compress for tender breasts
Daisy Mae Yokum, from the Liâlâ Abner comic strip, which took place in Dogpatch, USA, the abandoned remains of which we pass on our trips up HWY 7 into the Ozarks
Hey, I have to find my amusement where I can with these raging hormones.
This is yet another bioregional herb recipe, using ingredients that I forage in the Arkansas River Valley and Ozarks. My usual disclaimer: this recipe is meant to be inspiration to explore your own bioregion. Iâm not a medical professional. Iâm self taught and do my own research into how herbs interact with my personal diagnoses and prescription medications.
Ingredients:
1 Tbsp broadleaf (or American) plantain
1 tsp selfheal
½ tsp yarrow
Steep in a cup of hot water for 20â30 minutes, strain, chill until cool (not icy), soak a soft cloth, and apply for 10â15 minutes. Many people find cool compresses more comfortable than warm ones for hormonally tender breasts.
I put my infusion in a plastic container and use really 2-4 really thick viva brand paper towels that I fold and leave in the infusion in the fridge to change out because I love the cool feeling. You can use the infusion for up to 24 hours, and the compresses 3-4 times a day.
Plantain is cooling and soothing. Selfheal is mildly anti inflammatory and restorative. Yarrow is used for circulation, fluid movement, inflammation balance; I used a small amount because it is stronger than the other herbs.
