Jim was there when Batman first emerged in Gotham. He was twenty-five, and determined to clean up the GCPD. Cracking through that corruption was just the beginning; friendship eventually gave way to more, and through the years, Jim found himself with more than just a partner.

He was, perhaps, one of the only people in Gotham to really understand Bruce's family from the outside looking in - or, at least, one of the few who got the chance to understand the family that they became and then, in the same breath, join it.
