i’m probably reading way too much into this (after spn my brain is VERY QUEER SUBTEXT-WIRED), but the ambiguity of ‘whatever he is to you, whatever you are to him’ - i feel like that’s setting something up between them. not to mention how by this point john has told flint how concerned he is that he has the closest relationship to flint now, and everyone else who was, had died (2 of which were romantic relationships).

but im interested in how, as john said, him and flint are on equal footing - and that’s different from flint’s other relationships. and that maybe john will be the cause of flint’s death instead but that equal standing!! this ‘i don’t believe you need him to be the man you are’!! makes for them having, maybe, a healthier relationship than flint has had before? platonic OR romantic? well imma find outttt (pt 1 of related screencaps here)

Today on Black Sails parallels i hate:  How we have two shots of James and Miranda in a boat that are essentially the same, except when they are leaving England/civilization it’s their backs we see and when they are returning to Charleston/civilization it’s their faces (and a flag of England, as a reminder u know;))
