Tickles (Odazai)
Fandom: Bungou Stray Dogs Characters: Osamu Dazai | Sakunosuke Oda Lee!Dazai Ler!Oda Summary: In a rare moment of peace away from the Port Mafia, Dazai and Oda share a simple life, until a casual conversation reveals a mysterious "torture method" used by Oda. Curious, Dazai demands a demonstration and, not only realizes that the calmest man in the underworld has a surprisingly provocative side, but also realizes that he is his new favorite victim. [Read also on Ao3] Notes (and spoiler): I understand the criticism surrounding this "ship," which is the characters' ages. It's worth remembering that in some flashbacks in the anime, Dazai was 16, but when Oda died, he was already 18. This is an alternate history, so I'm considering a context where Oda is still alive, which is why Dazai is already of legal age.
(The art doesn't belong to me, I found it on Pinterest)
scrolling through the Odazai tag and I am seeing so many posts rebutting hate and arguing about Odazai vs. Soukoku…
And I am so genuinely confused about why this is apparently an argument. Like. Odazai is wholesome and sweet and romantic. There’s an age difference but not a maturity difference. It’s not an overly physical relationship. Oda grounds Dazai and makes him a better person. Whereas Soukoku is the exact opposite. It’s toxic and manipulative and unhealthy. There’s no age gap but there’s definitely a maturity gap (Chuuya’s life only began eight years ago when they met, by Chuuya’s own admission). Their relationship is violent and physical. Manipulating Chuuya makes Dazai feel like a god. Being with Chuuya makes Dazai worse and being with Oda makes him better. Is that not obvious to everyone else?
And it’s not because Oda is better than Chuuya, absolutely not Chuuya is my favorite of all time! But Dazai is bad for Chuuya. He is bad to Chuuya. Oda is just naturally the kind of person that Dazai doesn’t get to the same way. Oda is able to ignore Dazai’s bullshit and never get mad at him, which is something Chuuya could never do. Both ships are great in my opinion, but only as fiction. Because let’s be real, anything involving Dazai is problematic as hell and shouldn’t exist irl. But in fiction, yeah. They’re both incredibly interesting and satisfying. Dazai is absolutely in love with both of them to at least some degree, even if reciprocation is debatable for both as well. Both of them were at one point Dazai’s reason for living, for changing his life. Chuuya is the reason Dazai really joined the mafia and gave it a shot instead of killing him self. Oda is the reason he joined the Agency instead of staying in the mafia or killing him self.
Oh and it’s crazy the discourse about BEAST and how it’s the most Odazai thing ever but also the Soukoku is undeniable. Like. Yeah Dazai changed reality and did anything to save Oda, but he was never with Oda in that reality and it was Chuuya who was by his side the whole time. They are both important! Maybe the Soukoku is secondary but it’s still there! And saying it isn’t is just lying through your teeth. But yeah it’s toxic as hell. But isn’t it always? Hasn’t that always been the appeal of Soukoku? The love/hate dynamic, the push and pull, the obsession, the violent delight? Isn’t that what they’ve always been about?
I don’t know, I think the fandom has got to caught up in head canons and simplified interpersonal dynamics that most have forgotten the source content.
Soukoku is Hate Me by Nico Collins and Odazai is Saturn by Sleeping At Last. People need to remember the vibes if nothing else.
THE DAY I PICKED UP DAZAI | ILLUSTRATIONS
Just finished listening to the Dark Era audiobook and man. I wish the BSD fandom paid more attention to the fucked up mori-dazai-oda love triangle

happy new year 2025 !!✨🐍✨
i have once again become absolutely insane about the odazai scene in bar lupin bc like. dazai is never this sincere, this open. as a general rule he is more open and genuine with oda than he is with other characters, but even then the beast lupin scene was a whole different level. and what gets me is this is all coming from a place of such sheer desperation. dazai, at the end of all that he's wrought, finds himself so desperately wanting, so desperately hoping, that oda will understand why he did what he did, that oda will see where he's coming from. he prepared for this, he literally bet on the fact that oda would not know him, would not care about him, would not like him or consider him a friend bc that's what dazai had to do to keep him safe, to keep the world where he can live and write novels from disappearing. and yet, faced with the actuality of that exact situation he's created... dazai can't help but beg oda to understand the reason for his actions
he wanted this. he planned for this. and as hard as that was for him to do, i don't think he could have ever fathomed how much it would hurt to truly be confronted with the reality of it
