Word Count: 8,744
Genre: Murder Mystery, Comedy, Adventure
Warnings: Cursing, Death (Your bias may die.), Summary: Fifteen students wake up in an unknown school with no recollection of how they arrived. When a talking teddy bear tells them their only way out is to kill, will they turn on each other? Told from the perspective of Y/N, we try to find out exactly why.
The room around me was unfamiliar. It was dark, but I was still unaware of where I could possibly be. Just a moment ago, I remember… I tried to recall what I was previously doing. Yet, no matter how hard I tried, I… I couldn’t.
Everything felt fuzzy, as if the memory had been ripped out of my brain. I was scared. All I could see was black; Never ending darkness. An abyss in which my memory had failed me; I had no clue where I was or how I got there. Before I knew it, I felt myself shaking. Stopping myself, I figured I should have at least tried to figure out what was going on. I stood up and examined the strange room.
“A classroom,” I mumbled to myself. Desks were scattered around the room, yet they were devoid of students. I was on my own. Next, my eyes looked over towards the windows. They were blocked off with steel sheets, thus blocking the light. Steel sheets? What the fuck? Whoever did this wanted to make sure I couldn’t leave. What really stood out were the cameras. Hanging at the wall’s corner, they hung next to a matching monitor. “Where the hell am I?”
I then checked to see if I was hurt. My body didn’t feel any sort of pain, so I guess I was fine. Maybe I was… kidnapped? I also wasn’t restrained in any shape or form, so they obviously intended for me to maneuver myself.… Strange. Who would kidnap me, only to let me roam around as I pleased?
I suddenly remembered that I should have my phone on me. In a frenzy, I reached into my pockets, in hopes of being able to call for help. Grabbing the phone, I sadly realized it was not the piece of technology I was looking for. Instead, what laid in my hands was a small looking tablet, its screen turned off. On its back, there was a strange emblem - half black, half white. Not quite sure what it was, my first reaction was to press every single button I possibly could. The screen, however, insisted on remaining black. I slid it back into my pockets, as it clearly wasn’t working. I wasn’t sure what kind of situation I was currently in - holding onto it would be my best bet. I scanned the room one last time, before concluding I had examined enough. I looked towards the door; it was opened. Slowly approaching it, I peeked my head out and looked in both directions. Just an average hallway. Well, if you could call a hallway of complete darkness average. Empty classrooms filled the halls, their windows also shut off from the outside world.
Looking around was probably the best thing I could do. If I was allowed to explore as I pleased, I was probably meant to be kept alive. So I’d be safe - at least I hoped. A part of me wanted to call out into the emptiness of the hallways, but the reality that there could be someone who answered shut me down. Instead I slowly trailed around, taking time with my motions. I couldn’t help myself. The hallways stretched out endlessly; they were a maze with no exit. I was its prisoner - a prisoner taking a mere leisurely walk.
I hadn’t even realized how slow I was traveling until he pointed it out. He was a man that was a lot taller than me, with a strikingly handsome face. His light brown hair was parted in the middle, revealing most of his forehead. The chocolaty colored hair was somewhat of a mess, and I noticed his left hand go through it about five times before we even began to speak.
“You… ” That was the first thing he said, before letting out a chuckle. “You walk really slow.”
“You’re a stranger,” I said back, snappy with my tone of voice. I was unsure if I was the only one there, but this confirmed that I wasn’t. If we weren’t stuck inside a school, maybe the meeting could have worked out differently. However, this was a bizarre situation. I couldn’t trust him.
“I’m the Ultimate Prodigy, actually.” The Ultimate Prodigy had a smirk on his face, as he took a small step towards me. I instantly stepped back, before deciding to plant my feet to the floor. I had to stand my ground... There was no way a boy with chubby cheeks had any power over me.
“You’re… what?”
“The Ultimate Prodigy. Didn’t you look at your… tablet… phone… thing? It’s pretty cool, but I just wish it had games on it.” He sighed and seemed upset for a moment before returning to his casual smile. I pulled out the electronic device to take a look at what he meant, and within an instant he bolted towards me. It wouldn’t turn on before, but... “The Ultimate Question Mark?”
“Wait, what? What do you mean?” I snatched it out of his grubby hands to discover he was right. Whatever this Ultimate thing was, I apparently didn’t have one. “Is it supposed to say that? Can I…fix it?” he laughed at my misfortune and placed a hand on the small of my back.
“Let’s see if someone else can figure it out,” he said as I sighed, placing the strange device back into my pocket. Before I knew it I began to walk, following behind the strange man. A complete stranger was leading me around, and who was I to know he wasn’t ready to kill me? He could have easily brought me here and tricked me into trusting him. However, I felt oddly at ease. Stopping in my tracks, I decided maybe this was someone I could trust.
“What’s your name?” I crossed my arms to show him I wasn’t budging, and made direct eye contact with him. His cheeks were a bit flushed, and he continued to beam with a smile - a smile which made me want to smile as well.
“Jungkook. Simple, sweet, rolls off the tongue. Ladies love it. … At least that’s what my mom tells me.” he was cocky with the way he spoke, but the small cough afterwards led me to think he regretted his words. “And you, my lady?”
I let out a small laugh at his cheesiness, and for a brief moment, debated not telling him.
“ … Y/N.”
“Then let’s get going, Y/N. If there’s two of us, there could be more!” he sounded hopeful and it almost made me sick. I wasn’t quite sure why.
“We?” I crinkled my face in his direction. “Why does this have to be a we?” Jungkook looked hurt by my words as I felt my heart almost break at the dismantle of his face. “Fine. It can be a we.”
If I had spoken any slower, my words would have been harshly interrupted by a shattering scream. It boomed and echoed from down the hall, causing the two of us to burst simultaneously into a run. The scream refused to stop, growing increasingly louder and louder as we reached a door. It was locked from the outside, probably to taunt the person screaming their head off within.
As I reached to unlock it, my hand was slapped away. I looked towards Jungkook realizing it wasn’t him. Turning the other direction, I noticed we weren’t alone. There stood a straight-faced man, barely an inch taller than Jungkook.
“Don’t let him out yet.” his voice was deep and he spoke at a slow pace. “We woke up in the same room, and he was still asleep. I don’t know his name, but his face pissed me off so much that I locked him inside.”
“That’s a bit mean, don’t you think?” Jungkook spoke in a whisper, one that seemed he only meant for me to hear. Just from one look at him, I could tell he was intimidated by this new friend of ours. Jungkook cleared his throat; I could sense he was trying to regain some of the confidence that he had obviously held earlier. “What’s your Ultimate?”
“Leader.” The smile he had on his face after revealing such made me believe him in an instant. “The name’s Im Jaebum.” he extended a hand towards me, as I followed with my introduction. Jungkook did so directly after me. For some reason, Jaebum didn’t even reach his hand towards the latter. I wasn’t too sure if I could sense some sort of power struggle, but… it was obvious who was winning. It was barely even a battle, to say the least.
The scream picked up and began speaking audible words once it was able to hear us from the other side of the door. “Hey! Are you there!?” The man behind the door began to yell, his voice almost one of a growl. Even though he’d been screaming his head off for god knows how long, he still retained a full and deep voice. “Can you figure out a way to let me out!? I’m a good guy, truly! I’m the Ultimate Fencer and I don’t even have a rapier… so, I’m kinda useless!” The three of us made faces at each other. “I’m not that useless - I’m not not useless enough for you guys not to let me out!”
“... C’mon, guys.” I decided I had to step up. It seemed the two men I was with wouldn’t be doing so anytime soon. “We’re all stuck here together, so there’s no point in torturing him. We need to work as a team. We should work together to figure out what’s going on!” I even finished off with a bright smile to give more of an effect.
“Your enthusiasm is disgusting.” Jaebum spoke in a monotonous voice followed by a small laugh. I figured he was joking. I hoped he was, at least.
“And you’re supposed to be the Ultimate Leader?” I didn’t mean for my words to come out rude, but I wasn’t planning on giving any apologies. “Shouldn’t you - I don’t know, want to work together?” I eased the slight tension I’d caused with something nicer and vowed to stick to that way.
“I guess you’re right.” With that, Jaebum unlocked the door. A buff, tall and blonde man came barreling out, happiness radiating off his face. It seemed this idiot was pressed up against the door, using force to pry himself free. With all of his commotion, I was almost shocked he wasn’t completely wiped out from exerting so much energy.
“Jackson Wang, at your service,” he introduced himself, shooting a smile my way. Once his gaze reached Jaebum, his smile deformed into a frown. “You!” he pointed his finger at the Ultimate Leader, and in a mocking way, Jaebum did the same. “Why did you lock me in here?!”
“Have you seen your face?” Jaebum snickered, as I was seriously beginning to doubt his Ultimate. Everything about this man was provocative... from the polite way he smiled, to the taunting tone of his voice.
“Yeah, I have!” Jackson regretted his rebuttal right away. “It’s a nice face!”
“Then why is it always hidden behind a mask?” Jaebum continued, “Ultimate Fencer who?”
Jungkook and I exchanged looks, agreeing it was our time to make our leave. We would let the duo continue their little argument in peace; our presence was most definitely not needed. As soon as we were out of range of the others, we let out a sigh. “Can you believe that? I’m guessing nobody really remembers much about how they got here. And those guys really must not like each other!”
“They seem as if they’re strangers, as well.” I was starting to feel at ease around Jungkook. Small talk felt a little easier. I got the feeling that neither of us were very skilled in that department, but... we seemed to be doing fairly well at the moment. “Well, it seems we all are.”
“Except us. We’re the best of buds already!” he excitedly cheered and pulled me into his side for a moment. I could feel an internal battle go off of whether to blush or push him away. Without another moment's hesitation, I pushed him off and could hear him mutter “Cute.” Then I blushed, but I was sure he didn’t see. Had he, I’m sure I would have thrown up in my mouth a little.
I turned towards a doorway on my side of the hall, making sure we checked each nook and cranny of the school. There had to be an exit somewhere.
“This door doesn’t seem as if it was opened. Let’s check in here.” I opened the door, and my eyes met with a boy lying asleep atop a desk. I first noticed his hair, a pale mint green color. The mint hairs draped over his face, and small strands blew like the wind with each inhale and exhale.
“You think he’s alive?” Jungkook spoke in the same whisper as earlier.
“You can see him breathing, Kook.” The nickname slipped out, and he let out a gasp once it did - his reaction was almost one of a puppy’s. I made the same crinkly face I’d admittedly made a few times already, and waltzed over to the sleeping man. His position differed from the one I had woken up in; he seemed to be relaxed. I could only deduct he’d woken up earlier and decided to go back to sleep. “Do we just leave him here?” I also began to whisper. It seemed like the respectful decision.
“I’ll try to sneak his phone thing off of him, and find out his Ultimate. Then we’ll have the upper hand.” I wasn’t looking at Jungkook, but I could hear the slight smile in his whisper. The smile affirmed that he was serious. There was no stopping him. Something was telling me such, even though I barely knew the tall man I’d been exploring this bizarre school with.
He tried to reach into the pocket of the dormant man, and with an almost audible snap, his wrist was grabbed. The green-haired boy’s eyes were still in a state of hibernation, yet a scowl covered his face. “Do I know you?” he muttered through his gritted teeth, “Or are you just some pervert who likes to touch sleeping men’s asses?”
I didn’t even think of how this situation could have looked to a bystander. The man we had just awoken was correct. He was also a bit of an asshole, but maybe it was necessary in that situation.
“No! I just wanted to know your Ultimate!” Jungkook could have easily stuttered out his words, yet he didn’t. I was proud of him speaking up for himself. He seemed to shut down a bit with Jaebum earlier, but JB 2.0 was actually giving him a fighting chance. It was strange how he didn’t have the same form of intimidation from this much more menacing-looking guy. “Do I know you?”
“I don’t want to know you, so let’s keep that as no.” His eyes suddenly opened, and were sharp on Jungkook. “Your face looks familiar, looks like something that bothered me once upon a time.”
“Once upon a what?” Jungkook questioned, mouth gape.
“It seems iambic words are lost upon you.” he spoke with a sneer upon his face, “A true idiot, it seems.” I didn’t dare laugh, but I will admit I wanted to. Jungkook seemed puzzled at hearing this foreign word. Truthfully, I was unsure of its meaning as well. His attention moved towards me. “Yoongi, Ultimate Composer. I’m not sure why I’m here or how I got here - so I went back to sleep. I figured maybe I was dreaming, but it seems it can’t be that literal.”
I chuckled at his choice of words, and I wish he at least cracked a slight smile to ease the situation. His scowl remained put, and I realized there was no way to get through to him with any form of human interaction. “I’m Y/N, and that’s Jungkook. He’s the Ultimate Prodigy. I’m-”
“The Ultimate Question Mark!” Jungkook interrupted me with such glee in his voice that it made my stomach turn. Seriously, that was too much.
“My Ultimate is... currently unknown.” I filled in, seeing that Yoongi blantly ignored Jungkook, just as I figured he would have. Sadly, I couldn’t shake his stupid comments off too easily. I pulled out my device to show him what the screen said. He stared at it, puzzled, before giving a look that said he understood that I was, in fact, the Ultimate Question Mark. “We’ll leave you be now.” I slightly bowed to him out of respect, and again, wasn’t too sure why Jungkook mocked my motions. A look of dismay was upon my face once again.
We left the room and following the slamming of the door, I figured Yoongi was already dreaming.
“What an asshole, am I right ladies?” Jungkook sighed and began to take the lead. He walked a few steps in front of me and before I knew it, he was on the ground with skid marks covering his white t-shirt. A skinny boy with red hair had just skateboarded into and then over Jungkook. I really couldn’t have made this shit up. “Why is everyone we meet an asshole!?” he screamed out from his fallen state.
“Sorry, man!” The man with bright hair exclaimed, kicking his skateboard into a vertical position. “I’m Mark, Ultimate Skateboarder.” The bright cherry hair almost sparkled, giving out a radiant-like aura. It seemed unexpected from the man who sent Jungkook flying into the floor.
“Shouldn’t you be better, then?” I said a bit too loud, as he scratched the back of his head with a cheesey smile. Jungkook was back on his feet, brushing off the dirt clinging to his clothes. His white shirt was still polished clean… thank god.
“I guess so.” Mark laughed it off and Jungkook crossed his arms. He shot me a look, knowing I was about to introduce us. I guess he didn’t want me to; Oh well.
“Your ramp over there is Jungkook, The Ultimate Prodigy. I’m Y/N - The ultimate nothing.”
“You’re ultimately lucky for not getting ramped into.” Jungkook laughed at his play on words, and once again, there was that look. I could feel it on my face. “I’m sorry about that. I’m not too sure why I said it.”
Mark let out a laugh, but I certainly wasn’t doing anything of the sort.
“Seems like I’ll see you guys around.” Mark’s tone of voice was quiet and sweet, seemingly natural. The smile he wore perfectly matched his aura; it was very easy to pick up on. Then, he skeeted off.
“Fucking asshole,” Jungkook muttered, scratching his arm. There was probably a bruise forming. He’d complain about it soon enough, I figured.
Once we parted ways with Mark, I decided to take the lead. Jungkook now appeared gloomy, his eyes lacking the luster they held a few encounters ago. Maybe his fake ego had crumbled down due to previous events. He’d discovered in an instant that no matter the facade, it could easily be torn down and destroyed. As mature as he seemed, Jungkook still acted as if he was a child.
Laughter echoed from down the forked hallway, quickly grasping my attention. Upon closer inspection, the laughter seemed to be coming from two sources; one genuine, one sounding quite forced. I motioned for Jungkook to follow, him instantly picking up on the movements I was making. The one with forced laughter almost sounded like he was in pain.
The laughter was coming from inside a male bathroom, and something as stupid as my pride wouldn’t let me go inside. Jungkook sighed and opened the door, holding it so I could view our two new friends. A man with broad shoulders was staring into a mirror while another tall and lanky silver haired man stood backed into a corner. This situation didn’t appear to be threatening. “Hello?” I yelled inside from outside the door, not daring to set a foot inside.
“Ah!” The one who was staring into the mirror called out, “You can’t just scare me like that! The great Kim Seokjin, Ultimate Model can’t be shocked white!” Silence echoed throughout the room. “Anyways, here’s another one. A ham sandwich walks into a bar and orders a beer. Bartender says, 'Sorry we don't serve food here.'”
Following Seokjin’s joke, as well the laughter from telling it, the other stranger forced out a chuckle. My eyes were on him; He looked pained.
“And you?” Jungkook questioned the other man that seemed shaken from his appearance.
“I- I just wanted to pee.” the stuttering didn’t seem like a normal tick, so it was possible it was just a speech habit he developed when nervous. It looked as if Seokjin wasn’t exactly holding him hostage, and more so that he was too nervous to walk out.
Jungkook then walked in, and proceeded to slam the door in my face. I’m not too sure about what he did inside. When he walked out, he had a new friend on his arm who he introduced as Yugyeom, the Ultimate Modern Dancer. During the minute I was cut off, Jungkook seemed to have made a new best friend. From the way he had his hands all over Yugyeom, I figured our friendship was done for.
“Thanks for saving me.” Yugyeom spook in a light tone, closing his eyes as he smiled with his lips pressed shut. He gave a small little wave before walking off. The friendship I had with my Jungkook was safe. I let out a sigh of relief and Jungkook just smiled at me, puzzled as to why. He didn’t question it, though. He swiftly began to take off.
It wasn’t long until Jungkook stopped, and by that, I mean barely a few seconds. He stopped dead in his tracks, sniffing the vacant air. “There’s food nearby.” He charged into a set of double doors, revealing a kitchen filled with endless amounts of food. “This is enough to feed an army!” he called out to the boy with pale blonde hair, who was already stuffing his face.
“Right, dude?!” the other called back and stood up, greeting Jungkook with a fist bump. He put out his hand to do the same to me. When I didn’t react quick enough, he pulled his hand away and dabbed while laughing. “Too slow!” Jungkook was laughing now too. I sure wasn’t. “I’m Kunpimook Bhuwakul, but everyone calls me BamBam because nobody knows how the fuck to say it. I’m the Ultimate Fashionista!” Now that Ultimate made sense when I took a look at the way he was dressed. His attire resembled a highlighter, but somehow, it was fashion.
“I’m Jeon Jungkook.” Why did he introduce himself with his last name to BamBam, but not to me? “I’m the Ultimate Prodigy and that’s Y/N, the Ultimate Slow Poke!”
“Really!?” BamBam was in awe at Jungkook’s lie about me. I made a slight gasping noise before waving my hands to signify he wasn’t telling the truth.
“No, no; He’s just joking!” I exclaimed to BamBam, as I turned my attention to the liar. “Don’t go around telling people weird things! We’re all stuck here, and I don’t want people thinking I’m slow.”
“But you a-”
“Shut the fuck up.” My eyes glared holes through him as he tiptoed off to fill his growling stomach. I groaned and followed him, hurrying him up as not to waste any more time. “Nice to meet you,” I spoke to BamBam as we left, leaving him to continue eating. Jungkook looked a bit upset I pulled him out so soon, but that could also be from the silent treatment I was currently giving him.
I walked with my arms crossed down a blank corridor. There was a door as we walked on our left, but it was covered by the same metal sheet that covered the windows. Jungkook motioned for me to keep walking, and at the end of the hall, stood a tall man appearing to be deep in thought. As we got closer, we could see he was standing before a locked door.
“Several doors seem to be locked in this school,” he said out loud. Surprised at his approach, I nodded. “The door to the Entrance Hall, and the gym right here, to name a few.”
“Entrance Hall?” I excitedly repeated back. That could be our way out! In response, he unfortunately only shook his head.
“No matter what I tried, the door wouldn’t budge.”
“Well, have you noticed anything about those metal sheets all over the place?”
“I’ve seen quite a few of them. The stairs are blocked off with them as well - It seems we only have access to the first floor.” his voice was very clear; he made sure to enunciate every word he spoke. He walked closer to us and extended a hand. “Kim Namjoon, Ultimate Detective.”
The man stood tall wearing formal-looking attire; his hair neatly styled. Before I could introduce myself, Jungkook got between us and shook his hand. It seemed as if he’d dashed from all the way behind me just to make sure he shook the man’s hand. Whatever it was, this was important to him. “I’m Jungkook, The Ultimate Prodigy, and this is-”
“Y/N. My Ultimate is unknown currently.” I interrupted him before he made me look like an idiot again. Maybe this was his way of trying to guarantee he didn’t come across as the dumb one between us. However, he hadn’t avoided that fate as of yet. “I guess we’ll see each other around.”
“See ya’.” he smiled, his dimples showing. We decided to head back the way we came, as we were at a dead end.
Once we were further down the corridor, I decided to break my silent pact. “Everyone seems nice so far, right?” Jungkook’s face perked up as I spoke, turning towards me with a goofy smile. “They’re all so clueless, too. I really wish I knew what was happening!”
“And what your Ultimate is.” he added just to make me laugh. I nodded to let him know I thought it was funny. He paused his breathing for a moment and I watched his eyebrows knot. “Hold on. Did you just say everyone was nice? Did you meet the same men that I did?”
In the distance, my eyes laid upon an open door, calling out to me. Inside I could see books lining the walls. They towered like mountains, a never ending assortment of literature. My feet picked up their pace. I couldn’t remember if I really liked to read or not, but something inside my body told me that I was needed in that room. Jungkook’s long legs easily kept up with my gait, and within no time, we were at our destination.
I didn’t say a word to him before stepping inside and running towards the large selection of books. The sections weren’t labeled, but it felt as if the library went on for ages and ages. Of course, the one thing my oblivious self didn’t notice was the man sitting at a table reading. “Can you stop running? Your little pitter patter is distracting.” he spoke with an impoliteness in his voice that make my stomach bubble.
Before I could spit out an apology, Jungkook sent a sneer in his direction. “You’re so comfortable already?” he asked the stranger, clearly suspicious of him. Nothing really implied the raven haired man was guilty of anything, but my comrade in arms seemed to believe so. I had to back him up, so I ran to his side, as my body language changed to match his. Closed off and suspicious.
“Well, it’s obvious we can’t leave anytime soon, so why not find a distraction?” he had an arrogant grin on his face, moving his attention to me. “Well, I can see you’ve found yours, nitwit.” Jungkook let out an aggravated grunt as the stranger let out a chuckle, noticing he hit some sort of nerve. “Jinyoung, The Ultimate Socialite.”
“We’ll make sure to avoid you from now on.” I said smiling, grabbing Jungkook’s arm. I had to pull him out before he made some silly comment that would lead to the destruction of the library. I could hear Jinyoung’s snickering as I dragged Jungkook outside into the hall.
My attention was quickly drawn away from him, and towards a bright light farther down the hall. I knew this light. It was the very same rays I knew and loved from the outdoors. It reflected on the ground, most likely coming from an open window. We looked over at each other before nodding, knowing our next destination.
As much as it seemed as if it was to good to be true, the reality was about the same. The light was indeed coming from outside, but it was only a courtyard. The sun was cast in from the top, and looked as if it were the only exit. If you could even call it that.
Directly under the brightest ray of sunlight stood a smiling man. From the way he stood, to his glistening smile, he made me feel hope. This man was the embodiment of the sun. I was standing in front of the sun and wasn’t blind. Wow. “Ah, I hope you don’t stare too long, you might be disappointed.” This man’s smile was blinding me, and I was frozen in place. “Jung Hoseok, angel. That’s my name.”
“Y/N Y/L/N. Th-that’s mine.” I cleared my throat when I felt Jungkook’s disgusted eyes on me. I was disgusted too, but the heart eyes I had on clearly said otherwise. “I’m the Ultimate- well, nothing yet.”
“I’m the Ultimate Optimist. Truly a pleasure.” he extended his hand, and my fingers felt fragile within his grasp. “And who’s this?”
“Jungkook. The Ultimate Prodigy.” I expected to look over to him and see his annoyed face, but instead he was smiling along with us. He was completely taken in by Hoseok’s energy. I knew I picked well.
“As much as a shame it is to be trapped inside this building, we can consider it a blessing to have some sunlight in this dark place.” Hoseok smiled, crouching down to study a bushel of Proteas, glimmering in the sun. “These are my favorites…” I could hear him mutter to himself. He turned his attention to the Gardenias next to them, and yanked one out. He stood full height again and placed it within my hair. “I'm not much of a botanist, but these look lovely on you.”
As much as I tried to recall the names of these flowers, nothing was ringing a bell. I guess I wasn’t too into flowers. “Ah, thank you!” I reached up to touch the flower, and its petals felt silky smooth.
“It’s really pretty.” Jungkook mumbled, reaching forward to mimic my motions towards the flower. As soon as he touched it, the flower dropped to the ground. “My shitty luck” he groaned and picked the fallen plant up, handing it back.
“Don’t despair, luck can always change.” Hoseok smiled, taking the flower from my hand and putting it back into perfect position. “Are you two going to stay here for a while? It’s a very nice place compared to this school’s dreary insides. A few other men have visited so far, but you two are certainly the loveliest of them all. I think I counted around fifteen, including the two of you and I. If you’re doing what I think you’re doing, you only have a few more to go.”
“No, no.” I waved my hands in the air, “We’re going to get going, but it was nice to meet you.” I smiled and Jungkook did as well. “We’ll see you around.”
The moment we turned out of the courtyard, I could feel all of the positive vibes I just felt fall to the ground. “He was nice, yeah?” Jungkook spoke to me, as I simply nodded in response. He cleared his throat as we turned around a corner. “I recognize the end of this hall, it’s where you walked out of the classroom. I guess we’ve basically gone full circle.”
“If we’re stuck here, I guess that’s all we really can do.”
We headed into a large room, looking much like a large warehouse. I’m not quite sure how we missed it before. Various items filled the shelves, collecting dust. Many of them seemed to have gone unused for quite some time. I was distracted by the numerous amounts of trinkets. Before I knew it, there was a man in front of us. If I wasn’t blinded earlier by Hoseok, I was definitely blinded by the camera’s flash.
“Wow! Finally, a good subject!” he cheered, running over to excitedly shake our hands. “I went searching around and found this room. I thought maybe I could set these items up in a cool way to get a cool shot, right? No! They’re all boring, but you two… You!” he pointed at Jungkook, “You’re full of life and expression! Perfect!”
“Oh, thank you!” Jungkook smiled, cheesing at the compliments his ego was clearly being fed. In reality, his confidence probably needed this. He was almost glowing from it. “I’m Jungkook, nice to meet you! Let me guess, you’re the Ultimate Photographer?”
“You got that right!” he cheered and pulled Jungkook’s arm to a lone chair, sitting him in it. “The name’s Taehyung! Now, act dead!” Taehyung grabbed a bottle of poison- Wait, poison!?
“What are you doing with that!?” I called out, intercepting him from placing it on top of Jungkook, who had completely gotten into character and had his eyes closed. “That’s dangerous! How’d you even get that?!”
This peaked Jungkook’s interest and he opened one eye to see us dueling for the poison bottle. “Haven’t you looked around? This room is riddled with weapons!” Taehyung exclaimed and in that moment I stopped fighting him for it, causing the bottle to drop and shatter on the ground. We both sprang backwards at the noise. Jungkook jumped into the chair, standing in a crouching position on top. The white powder spread around the floor and released a garlicky stench. I jogged out of the room followed by the others. We gasped for air once we were in the hallway.
“Ah, you’re such a klutz.” Jungkook groaned, rubbing the back of his head. “Y/N, when will you learn?” I huffed at him for automatically blaming me and rolled my eyes. “Sorry for ruining your studio.” Jungkook laughed.
“Ah, no problem. Jungkook and Y/N, was it? I guess I’ll be seeing you around.” he winked towards us and jogged off, eager to probably find something new to shoot.
“Let’s keep looking. Hoseok said fifteen? We’re missing two.” Jungkook stated, continuing our walk around the school.
My eyes were on the lookout and they spotted a large sign. It said, “ENTRANCE HALL.” This must be the door Namjoon mentioned earlier. Underneath was a man with dirty blonde hair, wriggling the locked door. It was just a plain, ordinary door, taunting us. We walked over and the blonde instantly took notice of our presence.
“Jungkook.” My sidekick automatically started with, “Ultimate Prodigy.”
“I’m Youngjae, The Ultimate Pianist.” He didn’t shake the hand Jungkook had extended. After hearing his Ultimate, we both understood why. Even from the way he carried himself, he seemed like a pristine man whose hands were his most prized possession.
“I’m Y/N.” I smiled when I introduced myself and knocked on the locked door. Nothing. I tried to pry open the door which wished to remain shut, making zero progress. Jungkook laughed at my sorrowful effort. It truly was pathetic. I sighed, giving in. “I guess it really won’t budge.” I looked back over towards Youngjae. “Ah, we’ll leave you be.” He smiled and didn’t say anything in response. We took our leave, heading over towards a dead end.
“Where could the last one be?” Jungkook sighed, leaning up against a wall. He slid down it, ending up on the floor in a pretzel position. I kicked the heel of my right foot against the wall and leaned back, pushing my weight onto it.
“Maybe he’s in a classroom we didn’t check?” I responded and he just closed his eyes, his head hitting the wall with a thud. Of course he had a heavy head. With a skull as thick as his, it only made sense. “This- This is just so fucked up.” I sighed and nodded in agreement. “Why are we doing this? What are we waiting for? Is there a reason we have to speak to everybody?”
“Hey! No breaking the fourth wall.” he chuckled, opening his eyes and making contact with my own. Let’s just enjoy the game.”
He reached his hand towards me and placed the soles of his feet onto the ground. I rolled my eyes and grabbed his hand, helping to lean his body up. It was almost comical the way he towered over me, but we kept pace with each other, retracing our steps. Until we saw it. We saw them. A beautiful blonde haired man speaking to a talking teddy bear?!
“What is that!” I cried horrified, instinctively hiding behind Jungkook. His body tensed up and it was obvious he was trying to remain calm for my sake. Then the bear’s head turned 90 degrees faster than we thought a bear could move. That’s when Jungkook shook and lifted his hands in the air in a karate formation. “OH MY GOD, MOVE!” I yelled to the blonde boy who was frozen.
“My Prince! Don’t run away!” The bear spoke with an annoying high-pitched voice. I was surprised my ears weren’t bleeding. “Prince Jimin, don’t leave Monokuma!” he was almost graveling. Upon closer inspection, the bear was a mix of black and white, changing between the two right down its center. Its right eye looked as if it were a red lightning bolt. The beautiful man found safety jogging towards us, creating distance between himself and the stuffed animal. Other than his gorgeous appearance, one thing that truly stood out were his hands. Why were they so tiny? Did he live his whole life like th- Stop. There was a talking bear in front of you. Please focus. “Oh man, I’m not supposed to be here til the next page…I’ll be back soon, Jiminie!” he grumbled to himself as he disappeared. He just- was gone.
“Aish, thank you for saving me,” The princely being spoke to us with a kind, genuine smile on. Jungkook and I cleared our throats, breaking from our defensive and scared postures. “That bear had me trapped… He kept going on about how he was my biggest fan, and how he loved my hands, and I- It was scary to say the least.” He had a light airy tone to his high voice and ruffled his hair a few times.
“Jimin, is it? That’s a nice name,” Jungkook mumbled and looked up to make eye contact with Jimin’s chocolatey brown eyes, “I’m Jungkook, The Ultimate Prodigy. This is Y/N and her Ultimate is unknown right now.” I couldn’t help but smile at the fact that he finally said what I’d wanted, instead of fucking around with me.
“Ah, it’s a pleasure to make acquaintance with you two! I’m Park Jimin, The Ultimate Prince!” he was giddy when he spoke, happy to be speaking to humans. “I’m not quite sure what that means, it’s what this strange device said. But I’m flattered by it, nonetheless.”
Before we could continue speaking, a school bell interrupted us. Static took over the screen of the nearby monitor, a monitor much like the one I had seen back in that classroom. Now that I thought about it, each room was decorated with one, along with a matching camera. A familiar voice resonated throughout the school from the monitors. The same voice from whatever that thing was.
“Hey, you fucks! Come to the gym! Now, before I lose it! Jiminie, you better hurry up~!”
As his nickname was spoken, Jimin’s eyes expanded and his lips turned into a frown. “Oh, man, I told him not to call me that, and now everybody knows.” he looked upset, the same look I’d found on Jungkook’s face multiple times today. Unlike my companion, his expression didn’t change back to the normal one. Instead, he stayed upset and broke my heart.
“The gym? Wasn't that where Namjoon was?” I asked Jungkook. I started to walk in that direction, but stopped, as I was unsure if I was correct.
He looked at me and nodded, “Yeah, I believe so.” Jungkook took the opportunity to step in front of us, beginning to lead the way.
Once we reached where Namjoon was earlier, we realized we were right. The gym door was now unlocked, and the three of us walked inside in unison. The other twelve “students” were inside, standing scattered around the open area. The room was silent, and it wasn’t until I scanned the area that I realized I truly was the only female. Yes, I had noticed everyone we met was male but… it was weird. Was this the bachelorette? It was fucked up if it was and after meeting all the men- I didn’t really want to speak to half of them anymore, let alone marry them.
The lights began to flicker and all of us turned our attention towards an opening curtain, revealing that stupid bear stood atop a stage. “Welcome, gentlemen!” I didn’t dare to make a peep when he didn’t address me. Did he think I was a man? “Also, welcome question mark!” Ah, so he had the same sense of humor as Jungkook. Wonderful. “My name is Monokuma! Headmaster of this lovely school! Upupupupu!”
“What the fuck is that!” A voice that I recognized as Jackson’s called out, and I found him in the crowd, marching towards the stage.
“Yeah, let us out man!” BamBam was marching behind Jackson, hands on his hips. “Or at least hire a cook! All this unprepared stuff is messing with me.”
Seokjin turned towards BamBam, letting out a smile. “I, the great Kim Seokjin, shall be your chef! I’m good in the kitchen, I’ll have you know.”
In response, I heard a whisper coming from Yugyeom, “... How do you look away from a mirror long enough to cook?”
On the other side of the room, Jackson continued screaming. “Was I kidnapped by a shitting stuffed animal?”
“Well, maybe he puts a mirror behind the stove…” Yugyeom kept babbling to himself, but it seemed I was the only one able to hear it. “But then how does he not get distracted? Ah, this is so confusing…” I couldn’t help but to giggle at the innocence he held.
“My cooking is as good as I am beautiful,” beamed Seokjin, as if he had heard Yugyeom’s little comment.
“Then I hope I never eat your fucking cooking.” Yoongi scoffed, yawning right after. He looked around at the situation and for some reason, casually laid onto the ground; ready to go back to sleep.
“How cute!” Hoseok cheered, watching the green-haired man. “He’s going to sleep! Are you sleepy? Do you want my jacket as a pillow?” he crouched down to Yoongi and took off the clothing. Yoongi knit his eyebrows at the other, but accepted the gift anyways. A man was damn tired.
While all this was going on, Jimin attempted to hide his presence behind Jungkook and I. He was not having it with that bear. “Jimin? Jimin? Where’s my lovely Jimin?” The blonde man’s hand snatched my wrist, putting loads of pressure on it that I didn’t even know he had the power to do. I guess Jungkook noticed too and pushed Jimin’s tiny hand off of my wrist. The rest of the small man followed, thus outting Jimin. “My baby! Oh, my baby! Come here! Come to Papa!”
Jimin’s face turned towards Jungkook, upset with him for exposing him to the strange bear. “No, not this again…” Jimin attempted to back his way out of the room, but his plan was foiled after a large mechanical hand came out of the bear’s stomach and brought Jimin to Monokuma’s side. Ah, so I guess he was a robot. It was the only thing that made sense. The bear was instantly hugging him and Jimin just- the man wanted to die.
“See that?” Mark elbowed Youngjae. “Those are normal sized hands! Think he’s jealous?”
“My tiny prince is here!” Monokuma sang and a groan of ‘ugh’s’ blasted through everyone else.
“He’s a prince?” Taehyung questioned, “Psh, that doesn’t seem right.” Taehyung shrugged and Monokuma’s beady eyes sent daggers through him.
“I could kill you right now…” he grumbled through gritted teeth. Did he even have teeth? “Killing! Ah, yes! The main course!”
“Which brings us full circle to cooking!” Jin exclaimed, clapping his hands together.
“Shut the fuck up.” Jaebum groaned and Jackson was back at his side, ready to bicker again.
“You can’t talk to him like that!” Jackson white knighted, “Do you see how beautiful he is?” he whispered now, but like his voice, his whispers were just as loud. “Us normal folk can’t be mean to them!”
“Stop! Everyone stop!” Namjoon took over the leader role Jaebum apparently held, “He just mentioned killing and you’re all arguing! Let’s get back to that. Please. Just listen.”
“What did you mean by killing?” I questioned, finally putting in my input.
“I mean killing! ‘An act of causing death, especially or deliberately.’ Assassination! Homicide! Manslaughter! Elimination! Murder! When used as an adjective, it means ‘causing death.’ Deadly! Lethal! Fatal! Death dealing! Murderous! A killing blow!”
“I think we all know what the word killing means, you imbecile. What idiot wouldn’t?” scoffed Jinyoung, obviously annoyed at the bear’s antics.
“Great! I’m glad we’ve all come to an understanding!” beamed Monokuma, proud of his exceptional explanation.
“I meant the context you used it in!” An obviously frustrated Namjoon yelled out, “You said, ‘Killing! Ah, yes! The main course’!” He didn’t mimic Monokuma’s voice like I knew half of this room would. The Ultimate Detective was mature and meant business.
“Yes, I suppose I did say that…” Monokuma droned on, Jimin freeing himself from his grasp and jumping down to be with the rest of us. “Hm…”
Jaebum decided to step up, “Explain yourself! You can’t keep us trapped here with nothing to abide by!”
“Let me start again…” Somehow he cleared his throat and got louder than before, “Welcome to Kill Each Other R US! Or you! You’re all killing each other.” he had this grin on that made me as sick as his words did, “Bashing, stabbing, slicing, shooting, clubbing, slashing, drowning, suffocating, burning, hanging, crushing, choking and so much more! Whatever gets the job done!
“Why… Why would we do that? Why do you think any of us would do such a thing?” I could see how Jaebum was the Ultimate Leader with the aura he was giving off in this terrifying moment.
“Well, you don’t have to… unless you’d rather spend the rest of your lives here, that is!” Monokuma yelled, cackling to himself.
I kept looking over at Jungkook during the entire discussion, waiting to see the confidence I had seen throughout the day. He opened his mouth a few times to speak, but every time I could see his toned body tense up and shut himself down. “Wh-Why! Why would we stay here?!” He finally spoke, surprising me.
“Don’t you see the metal sheet, dummy! You’re stuck! Trapped! You’ve been bamboozled! Into my trap!”
“Please god shut up.” Yoongi groaned from his position on the ground, rolling over so his face was in the floor.
“No sleeping in my gymnasium!” Then the large hand escaped Monokuma’s stomach again and plucked Yoongi into an upright position. He looked upset. Well, we all kind of did but- his was different. Did he even know what was going on?
“There’s fifteen of us and only one of you.” Jinyoung snickered, “Why don’t we just kill you?” From the way he was speaking, I could tell he didn’t believe a word of what he said. So who was he trying to impress?
“Yeah, that’s the spirit!” Jaebum exclaimed. Ah, so it was him.
“Ah, ah! Kill? Me? Don’t you know the rules!? No harming of any kind to the headmaster! Haven’t you read your Monopads?”
“Our mono- mono what’s? You mean these phones with no games on them? Kinda lame if you ask me.” Jungkook shrugged, snapping back to his normal self.
“I thought the same thing, Kookie! Kinda wack if you ask me.” Taehyung shrugged, slinging an arm around Jungkook. “Not even peggle…”
Monokuma froze, followed by an offended gasp. In an instant, our Monopads, or whatever they were, lit up. The words “: No insulting the Monopads” appeared across the screens.
“Can we still insult you?” BamBam asked, hopeful in this dreary situation.
“Yeah, I guess so. It’s gonna get less comical if you don’t.”
“Enough with all of this shit, I’m not playing this silly game.” Jinyoung angrily waltzed atop the stage, coming head to head with the ursin. He forcefully pushed his foot against the bear’s forehead, hands on his hips. “Why in the hell should I listen to a deformed stuffed animal?” he scoffed.
“Because it’s rule number thirteen!” Monokuma explained, before going silent.
“What’s that, got nothing to say now, huh?” Before we all knew it, a loud ticking sound filled the entire gym.
“Shit, Jinyoung, get back!” yelled Jaebum, as he grabbed the Ultimate Socialite’s hand, pulling him off the stage. Jungkook acted faster than I’d seen him move all day and immediately pushed me to the ground, hovering over me to protect me from what may come next. His eyes were focused on my face and he was scared. Seeing how fucking scared this was making him made me want to cry. I closed my eyes to brace myself and a loud explosion erupted throughout the room. Dismantled pieces of black and white dropped to the floor.
“H-Ha! What an idiot, did he just kill himself?” exclaimed Jinyoung, obviously startled from what had just occurred.
“But- he’s giving us what we wanted. That’s not right.” Namjoon deducted, standing up from the ground.
“Thank you.” I whispered to Jungkook as he helped me up. I took note of how he stood closer to me now, our sides pressing together. He nodded and smiled with his bunny smile towards me as to say, ‘Don’t mention it’ or ‘Of course’.
“Does that mean we can leave!?” Taehyung screamed, the notion of it lighting a fire inside of him.
Suddenly, a boisterous voice stormed the room.
“Nope! I’m still kicking, baby!” It was him. The same bear we had seen blown to pieces with our very own eyes was standing before us. This only affirmed my suspicions that he was a robot… so sadly, I couldn’t even imagine how many of them there were. “None of you can leave. Your ticket out? The killing semester! Upupupu!” His cackling laugh ringed through my ears.
I couldn’t believe what I was hearing. I just couldn’t wrap my mind around the thought that any of this was real. Maybe it was a dream and if I hit my head hard enough, it would all go back to normal. Except, I knew that wasn’t true. I couldn’t even remember what my version of normal was. I knew my name, I knew I had these terrible thoughts, I knew my feelings- but I didn’t know how I got here or why I would begin to lead myself to this hellish place. Maybe this stupid bear did- but it was a secret.
A secret I wasn’t on the inside of. Now, I was being forced to play this terrible game that I couldn’t get out of. Would the me before this be able to get out? Maybe she was smarter than I was, because I could barely accept that this was happening to me. Of course the one time in my life I was surrounded by fourteen hot men a stupid fucking bear had to be here and tell us to kill each other.
Of course.
Author’s Note: Hey! Hope you enjoyed! If you have any questions feel free to ask, as I can see how this could be confusing. Any feedback would be appreciated!
