It is almost heartbreaking the way the toxic buddie stans are completely disregarding how 911 is trying to engage with discourse surrounding homophobia & LGBTQIA+ hate in workplaces in the show, and are crucifying one of the queer characters who is explicitly gay, just because their faves aren't a couple.

Like, this 👆 scene was devastating as much as it was badass because of Chimney. Tommy didn't fight back, and instead shifted his stance a little. He looks visibly uncomfortable and hurt but doesn't respond, alluding to the fact that he doesn't want to cause a scene, and/or doesn't feel empowered enough to stand up for himself and his boyfriend.

The scene could've been such a catalyst for deeper discussions about queer representation in service jobs like firefighting. It could've even led to discourse about intersectionality and how Hen faced her own struggles in the LAFD because in addition to being queer, she is black and a woman.

But no.

Instead, y'all are raving on and on about how Tommy is ugly, Lou is d*sgusting, how the cast and Oliver hate him and his character & how Buck and Eddie should be together and anything other than buddie = queerbaiting.

If you only want Buck to be bisexual with Eddie, then you NEVER cared about bisexual/queer representation in the first place.

I don't understand the continued fixation on Buck and Tommy's relationship after their breakup.

Yes, Tommy was part of Buck’s bisexual awakening — a major, long-overdue moment for a network TV character. That’s important. It mattered. But let’s be real: they dated, it ended, and it wasn’t that deep.

He wasn’t even a good partner. But neither were Taylor nor Abby, and yet I don’t see constant shipping wars around them. So why are people still clinging to BuckTommy like it was some epic love story in the making?

Tommy had minimal screen time, no real development, and their “romantic” scenes were bland at best. The writing barely gave him a personality beyond a few one-liners, and then poof — breakup. And worse - a rebound.

So what’s with all the rivalry and the ship wars? The weird vitriol? I’m not even talking about the actor - because at this point, the fandom discourse has been so overblown, I don’t even know what’s fact and what’s fandom-fueled fiction.

Will there be a similar energy when Buck finally gets a male (or female) love interest who’s actually supportive, emotionally available, and, I don’t know — present? Will that character get the same hype? Regardless of whether Buddie is endgame or not

Listen I was never really a BuckTommy stan, but I will stay mad at the way they did Tommy as a character by cursing him with “buck love interest” disease instead of thinking about the implications of Tommy. I love this idea of a closested gay firefighter in the house with the racist and homophobic captain, now dealing with the fallout from choosing to play into the harmful energy at the firehouse rather than be on the receiving end. Like he clearly feels regret about his past, he still has so much respect for Hen and Chim enough for Chim to call in multiple favors. How unfortunate that we never get to explore that because he has been relegated to “that old guy Buck dated for a season” meaing he can never come back for a side adventure without the “awkward exes” shtick taking over the entire episode so he basically doesn’t exist anymore just like every other love interest character Buck has ever had

All that to say BuckTommy shippers I’m sorry for your loss and I promise not to gloat too much if Buddie goes canon (unlikely 🥲) out of respect for you and your situation

I’ve pretty much gone off 9-1-1, for pretty obvious reasons, but there was something I thought of which was just too funny not to share.

It’s confirmed that Tommy viewed Eddie as “competition” throughout his relationship with Buck. Now, thinking back to the scene where Tommy and Buck go out for their 6 month anniversary and Tommy gives Buck basketball tickets, his dialogue is so fucking funny, because he literally says “and you don’t even have to go with me. Take Eddie, if you want to.” 

This was 10000% a setup. The fact that Eddie was his specific example??? He was so clearly trying to test Buck, to see how he’d react. And he must have been so fucking pissed too, because instead of going ‘I obviously want to go with you’ or something like that, Buck says “wait, really?” 💀 NO WONDER Tommy was insecure

Even funnier if you consider that Buck DOES end up going with Eddie. He talks about it to Ravi at the bar. 

Just re-contextualising Buck and Tommy’s entire relationship with the knowledge that Tommy saw Eddie as competition is hilarious.

i don’t mean to be one of those people that keep going on and on about what they hate but i literally cannot stop thinking about how buckt*mmy’s first date fills me with incandescent rage.

why did you, an older gay man that came out later in life and knows how homophobic people in your line of work can be, ask a newly-discovered technically-closeted bisexual man out on a date if you were going to treat him that way? like this guy has not come out to anyone, he’s on his first date with a guy in public and already tense, and then his best friend walks in and because he’s not ready to come out on the spot, he overcorrects and yeah it’s the most awkward thing ever but you already knew he was an awkward person? so why did you make a closet joke and them ditch him in the middle of the date with barely any explanation, leave him on the literal side of the road and then ghost him? and then he apparently has to apologise to you?
