ok!!! ik i just said i felt embarassed to try out the new name i've been thinking about bc of why i like/chose it but i'm gonna be brave and do it:

my main name is now elliot! i'm also going by the nickname el as well!

the reason i decided on this name is bc i wanted a name that sounded like/included the name "el" bc of el/eleven hopper from stranger things and out of the masc names i found that fit this, i liked this one the most. el is canonly cis (tho i feel like she could be seen as trans coded but that's an analysis post for another day) but she has been one of my favorite characters of all time for almost 10 years now and she's always been a huge source of comfort & inspiration to me. i've always related to her journey of finding/creating a good life for herself with friends/family, discovering herself & what she likes/dislikes, and remaining kind even if the face of awful ppl/things, and i also relate to her struggles with feeling like she doesn't belong/fit in anywhere. (which is why i was/still am devastated by that fuckass ending but i digress.) me being a trans man has been something i tried to suppress for a very long time, it was only almost a month ago that i came back out of the closet, and the reason i was afraid of being trans is bc i know it means having to somehow carve a better life for myself bc my family won't respect it. el's courage, strength, and determination to be free/have a better life has always so important to me and in the past month has brought me even more comfort & inspiration to be myself and hope for a future where i'm free to be myself irl. so bc of all that, i wanted to name myself after her in a way. (which maybe is silly bc she's just a fictional character + she's a girl and i'm a man but idc, she is important to me! also she is a trans boy in my mind so ha ha)

also! idk if i consider shannon a dead name, it's just not my main name anymore (i gotta still go by it irl rn anyways bc i'm not coming out again yet)
