Zhongli, Morax's ghost is that fact that he would outlive you over and over again. He would live for a whole lifetime just to see you die before him. Forever haunted by the different yet the same version of his beloved. Haunted by the fact that he would try to find you in everyone thus realising the fact that he could no longer love anyone else. But you.
Morax who finds you in everyone, reminds you of everything. It was like everything was about you. And how funny it was, you were anywhere but next to him. It feel like the more he tries to forget about you- despite the thousands of years, memories that were long forgotten. Despite the fact that he could barely remember your face, your voice. You still haunts him. Everything reminds him of you no matter how much he trues to deny it. He could never get used to it.
Kamisato Ayato
Ba't nababahala? 'Di ba't ako'y mag-isa?
Kala ko'y payapa, boses mo'y tumatawag pa
Ayato's ghost would be the fact that he almost had you. The fact that the two of you happened; a short serenity. A short bliss of happiness he would never forget that would forever haunt him as he choose his duties before himself.
People would see him as the Head of the Kamisato Clan, the one who manage to rebuild his clan at the edge of ruins. The one who was said to be cunning yet kind. A manipulator and a strategist. The one who was contented with his life, and yet the moment he heard your familiar calling, he would look back. Only to realise he was alone, you aren't here anymore. That this is what he had given up willingly all those years ago. His happiness.
Al Haitham
Binaon naman na ang lahat
Tinakpan naman na 'king sugat
Al Haitham's ghost is the fact that he never confess. It was never about the circumstances, you were always by his side. It was never about miscommunication, you talked, you always does. It was never about trust, he had known you all his life, the trust that you two had was everything. It was about time. It was about damn time. He though you had more time, if only he had known.
So as he stood in front of your grave, a flower in hand. He just stares. Would things be different he confessed? If he asked you to stay? Stay with him? If he did not try to play it safe, would you still be here with him? If he did not try to suppress these feelings, would you still be here right beside him? He would never know and it would haunt him for the rest of his life.
Neuvillette
Ngunit ba't ba andito pa rin?
Hirap na 'kong intindihin
Neuvillette's ghost is the fact that he could never love you again, not after the hundred years of guilt. While it was the verdict and countless accusations, evidence that eventually took you away from him. He was the same being that pass on that verdict to you. While he had forgiven the national from that they did. He himself could not forgive the fact that he did that to you.
He knew you deserve better, now that you are back. He knew that you deserve better, and he knew he was not. So he let you go, for the second time in his lifeline, he let you go. But it was okay, at least this time you are alive, you are safe, even if it wasn't by his side. He knew he could not love you again, the guilt was eating him alive and yet the pain of seeing you with someone else was a different kind of pain, one that would haunt him forever, for the rest of his life.
Diluc Ragnvindr

Dahil sa bawat tingin, mukha mo'y nakikita

Only to find out the reason why he manage to kept himself alive the reason why he came back was no longer around. You died, alone in an alley at day the two of you were supposed to get married. Clutching the rings the two of you were supposed to exchange that very same day. Now kept in his chest, attached on the necklace underneath his clothes. Hoping it was you talking through the tavern door, greeting him with your smile. That was a dream he would forever wish upon.

Your ghost is Capitano who you spend most of your life with. He who cannot rest in peace finally find himself at peace. And there is nothing you can do about it but to accept the fact that he had left you behind. That he had finally find his peace, something you had always been dreaming of when it comes to him. Because admit it, it may not seemed that way but he had always been suffering, carrying onnthe weight of the nation that had long been gone.
As much as you want to hate him for leaving you alone. You cannot, not when he had finally find his peace. Not when he could finally rest. But then again, if there is nothing that would haunt you forever is by how peaceful he looked when he left. Like he had no regrets, like he had done enough. In which in fact he did. He left in peace, which left you in pieces. Never to love again.

syn. right person, wrong time.
They say the first of the harbinger is a cruel man. A heartless being who teared the hearts of his enemies in cold blood.
The Captain has many names, many of which are insults. Yet, you never fail to call him honey-sweet terms. Maybe that was what caused the great Capitano to fall deeply in love with you; the honesty in your eyes, the smile you always gave unconditionally.
Your will to be yourself.
If Capitano was the harsh winter of Snezhnaya—the shiver running down one’s spine or the storm that people fear, then you would’ve been the gentle fireplace where everyone gathered to warm themselves. But also the peace who calmed the storm.
Within your presence, Capitano’s frozen heart began to melt. Showing a golden man who carries too many burdens. His heart bears the burden of others; he carries the will of others with him—the will of the fallen. A responsibility heavy for mind, but Capitano continued to shoulder it. His heart who cared for his peers—for his soldiers.
Capitano is one of many things—a soldier, a warrior, a leader and a harbinger.
But in your arms, adorned by the moonlight as the witness to your love. In your arms, where his past no longer haunted him. In your arms, he discarded his title as The Captain/Capitano and becomes his true self.
He asked you to call out his name—his true name, the one he used centuries ago. With your soft voice lulling him to sleep, with your fingers playing with his hair, braiding it here while detangling it there.
In your arms, Capitano—the first of the harbinger was no more.
In your arms, he could forget himself.
In your arms, he felt loved.
And in his arms, you felt safe.
He was as much of a pillar to you as you were to him. With Capitano, you never feared that the freezing winds of the north would extinguish your flame. He was like an unshakeable wall, for he defended you from any harm that may come. Capitano loves you.
He showed it in many ways; from brewing your favourite drink for you to enjoy while reading beside him, to lending you his larger coat whenever the winter is too cold for you to bear. When Capitano loved, he puts his whole heart.
For him, to love is to give it all.
For Capitano, to love you is a duty he shall never fail. A beautiful soul like yours is rare to come by, but when it does one should care for it so as to never betray the trust it gave.
Yet somehow, despite the rocky start the relationship had—you always stayed beside him. Even when he hurt you with cruel words, or when he ignored you in times you needed his attention the most. Capitano was the definition of a scum, but you never left. Stubborn as you were—and still are, his side was never left empty thanks to you.
He didn’t know whether to be grateful or not. Does this sinner of a man truly deserve an angel like yourself? He wondered.
However, you proved his worth every time. You accepted him whole from the moment you caught a glimpse of his vulnerable self. You had fallen first but he had fallen harder.
″ To my dearest,
I am not one for words, but I will try. For you. Every morning I wake, I thank the archons for blessing me with your presence. Every time my eyes lay on you, I find myself mesmerized. My dearest, Thank you. For being with me for so long, for staying and for loving me. I’m sorry. I will not be able to return your embrace no more. I’m sorry. Even in death and never ending slumber, know I will continue to love you. My heart is forever yours.
From yours truly, Thrain. ″
As tear stains merged—both from yours and his, you hug the letter tight against you. Once more, just like that night—you cry out his name. Sobs and wail. Similarly as he had given you his heart, you buried yours along with him.

Imagine being Capitano's lover, left alone in Snezhnaya
He had told you not to wait for him, like always, but you had figured it was just his way of saying 'you don't know what will happen on the battlefield'
But he came back everytime, without fail, and you would wait for him, without fail
The house was cold and quieter when he was gone, which was ironic for a man who didn't talk much and had cyro powers, but that's how it always was
So here you were waiting on the couch for him, feeling your eyelids start to droop when you hear a small knock on the door
You rush your way over to open the door-
Only to find one of his soldiers
"M-milady" Her voice trembled
You took a step back, knowing instinctively something was wrong
"I-I come with a message from the Lord" Her voice cracked when she mentioned your lover as she held out a message with trembling hands
"Is he okay? Please tell me he's-"
"He said he'll explain it in the letter"
~~~
You stare at the letter left on your dinner, feeling strange
If you didn't open the letter would he come back? Would he show up at your door unscathed just like all the other times?
If you left the letter untouched, could you continue in denial?
And yet, you wanted to read what he could've written for you
And so your reached for the letter
My love, the light that kept me going
If this has been delivered to you, it means I've completed what I've set out to do
Your breath hitched as you read that line, you knew what that meant
He told you about his dream to help the lost souls he kept in his heart, his amazingly beautiful loving heart, find peace
-and with them, help his soul find peace
Maybe it was cruel of you, but you had hoped he would finish his goal later, when you were old or gone
You didn't expect him to leave so soon
My only sorrow is that I'm sure you were patiently waiting for a dead man return
“I’m sorry.. We don’t seem to have a patient by that name. Are you sure it is correct?” The nurse at the registry asked you. A few days after your meeting with Yessenia, she had sent a letter with the hospital’s location to make sure you’d be able to get there. Due to your general mistrust of her and that family, you decided to pay the institution a humble visit a day earlier — only to find that there was no patient under your family name. Yessenia’s mother, by what you could remember, was ever the arrogant woman. So for her to not use your father’s surname was unheard of. However, just to make sure, you gave the nurse the woman’s maiden name. Unfortunately, the answer stayed the same.
At this hospital, there was no patient under her name.
The heels of your boots clapped against the pavement as you made your way from the hospital to your home. Many questions filled your head but you pushed them away along with the resurgence of memories that came. Why would she lie? Especially about something so.. So grave!? Then again.. Did she even need a reason? Was she still so callous as to lie about something like this for money?
The skin of your bottom lip was raw after you had been biting it for so long and so anxiously too. With your brows furrowing and the emotional tears in your eyes welling up, it was hard to keep your composure — especially in public.
Hearing the nurse’s words only triggered all of those memories from your past to let loose from the space in your subconscious that worked hard to keep them locked away. It was then that you realized that Yessenia and that family had not changed — They were still as shallow as ever. You were foolish to believe that they could be anything but.
You wiped your waterline with your gloved fingertips. The wind was quite calm by now but that didn’t stop the cold from holding back its bite. People passed by your figure in a hurry. It was always busy in the later hours of the afternoon. Some were trying to get home to their families, others were ready to hang out with friends — Yet here you were. Alone.
It was times like this when you wished Rosalyne was still around.
‘Quit your crying, dearest. I hate to see you so broken up about things like this,’ were the words Rosalyne had told you one night when you’d finally told her about your past. She was never the best at comforting and her words were always rough. Nevertheless, her words warmed your heart. So much so that you remembered them during times like this. You’d already gone to see her earlier this month, but another visit wouldn’t hurt. In fact, you quite needed it.
Even if your dearest friend was no longer around, the warm memories kept her in your heart long after her passing.
Thus, in a moment's time, you were curled up against the tomb she laid in, with your knees to your chest and your face buried in them. The cold marble against your back was comforting in an odd way. Your gloves were discarded beside you, allowing the cold to seep into your once-warm fingers. “... What should I do?” Your tone was quiet but the acoustics at her mausoleum made it sound louder than it was. “Is there anything to do? I could say no.. But then it’d turn into a whole argument. Which I personally do not want.. -and she knows where I live! There’s no doubt she’ll turn up again if I refuse…” You sighed heavily and buried your face in your cold, bare hands.
“Sometimes.. I really wish you were here. I miss you, Rose.. I wonder if you’re happier in the afterlife, if you can see me.. Though, I know you can't- You can’t hear me.” The statement made your throat close up. Words felt too great to utter. “You’re gone. . . you..” A hot tear escaped you, a plethora more following suit. “You’re never coming back..”
The fairytales you escaped in during your youth were nothing more than stories.
This was your sad reality. There would be no knight in shining armor to save you from your troubles and no amount of magic could fix the torment in your heart. There was no dragon you could kill and no spell to doom you to eternal sleep. There was only the complexity of your past and a tall man draped in furs .. Wait.
A man?
Through the crevices in between your fingers, you caught a glimpse of The Captain through your teary vision. In an instant, you were up, gloves in hand and the evidence of your tears sloppily dried off. In his presence, your adrenaline spiked. “What, uhm, why are you here?” you asked, unsure of how to address him. It felt compromising to have him merely staring at you in this state when you couldn’t even see so much as his face.
“The door was open.” Capitano answered, his voice as strong as ever. “Are you visiting Rosalyne?”
“I..” your head lowered and your arms dropped down to your sides to clutch the fabric of your skirt. . . Did you really need to keep being strong in the presence of someone stronger? You thought it futile. “Yeah- Yes. Well, actually- I wanted somewhere to think and I couldn’t think of any place closer than uh.. here. But if i have to leave then-”
Capitano raised his clawed hand slowly, causing you to stop talking. Were you rambling? “I am not asking you to leave. More importantly, are you alright? You seem frantic.”
“I’m- I mean, I am okay, I think so. But I’m not frantic, I just.. I... ” You could feel your heart thumping within your chest. You knew this feeling well; They were the beginnings of an anxiety attack. But here? In front of him? You were mentally yelling at yourself to keep your composure at least until you got home. But your body would not yield to what your brain demanded. Your breaths became short and your hands sweaty. “-I’ll be on my way.” You slipped on your gloves with trembling hands and collected your crimson leather satchel off of the ground.
All you wanted to do was leave now, this situation was much too embarrassing and with the way your mind and heart were racing at the moment, you didn’t want to burden him with your weak emotional state. You hurried to be out of his presence but the Captain would not allow it. As you walked past the tall harbinger, he turned to face you. In a second, his arm shot out to gently, but firmly, hold your arm. It was then that the dam inside you broke loose.
The Captain had only ever seen you when you were calm and collected, in an almost regal — yet humble — Fashion. He was not used to the sight of seeing tears stream down your face while your labored breaths fanned over him. You were more than frantic — You were emotionally overwhelmed. It was safe to say that Capitano did not take kindly to the thought of someone hurting you this badly.
For you see, this man was already wrapped around your finger — you had yet to realize it. How were you supposed to know that the cause of your neverending paranoia was the man that held you so tightly in your moment of distress?
But you didn’t need to know that.
What you needed right now was tenderness and care. Thankfully, he was ready to give you that exact thing. Capitano pulled you further into him, the cold gold chains against your warm, tear-stained cheeks felt odd to you, but you didn’t pull away. In fact, your arms readily slinked around his torso which surprised you — But you weren’t really thinking at this moment anyway.
Your entire life, there was a loneliness that seemed to follow you wherever you went.
Even when your bed was covered in stuffed animals in your youth. Even when you found Mittens in that alleyway and made him your first friend. Even when you tried to psych yourself into believing that you did not need, or want, the warm embrace of another being. Even when you tried to trick yourself into believing that living alone with your feline and your cottage was enough.
The loneliness always left you feeling destitute.
Yet, here, in the arms of the First Harbinger, you found warmth. The warmth of someone else. And it was then that you realized that it was pointless to keep lying to yourself like this. You didn’t want to be alone. You wept quietly into his chest, his clawed hands cradled you like fine china. As if you were to break if he held you too tightly. Here, in his secure embrace with his furs draped around the two of you with his soothing words telling you to breathe slowly, is where you realized that no amount of lying would ever satisfy your desire to be wanted.
And as much as you wanted to be selfish and let this moment last forever, you also realized that you were probably nothing but a stranger to him.
So you let go.
Your sobs quieted and you pulled away from Capitano. The Harbinger didn’t stop you from pulling away, but his vision remained trained on you. “I’m sorry,” You began, wiping your tears. “About your shirt and the crying, I’ll pay for the-”
“You need not trouble yourself for my sake, ______. Was I not the one who told you to not hesitate to come to me if you were in trouble?” His clawed thumb came up to your cheek, he didn’t miss your slight flinch, and swiped a stray tea from your warm skin. The way you gazed into the black void where his face should be, was endearing to him.
“I..” you could feel your face getting hot now that you weren’t as overwhelmed. You’d never met a man like him: someone assumed to be cold and heartless and yet so gentle with you. “I believe you’re right… forgive me for the inconvenience. You seem to be saving me a lot lately.” Your downcast expression with a slight hint of pain tugged at the Harbinger’s heart. His deep chuckle sent your heart out of your chest, it was a sound you’d never expect to come from him.
Though now, you guessed that maybe nothing about this encounter was expected.
“This was of no inconvenience to me, I can assure you that.” His hands remained at his sides. Every second that you were alone with him a little longer was a second that he spent in heaven. Your presence was refreshing to him. For he too, had not met someone like you; Someone humble and so skilled. You were strong. Not in the same way that he was, but still strong.
And even the strong have their moments of weakness; He was only glad he was there for yours.
“Will you be heading home?”
You nodded, “Yes, it’s getting late, I have someone waiting for me at home as well.”
This piqued his interest, but he didn’t inquire further. It wasn’t his place — at least not yet. “Well then, would you like me to accompany you?”
You smiled at his offer. “I would. Thank you, Capitano.”
The snow fell on the two of you as you walked out of the mausoleum. His coat would brush against your arm every now and again which made your stomach feel as if butterflies were fluttering around in it, but you made no effort to part from him. In fact, you found yourself wishing to see more of him. The carriage was waiting only a few blocks away, so you didn’t have to walk much. All of that sobbing had left you drained and all you wanted to do was sleep in your cozy bed.
Capitano gave you a hand as you mounted the carriage. The carriage itself felt way too ostentatious for your liking. It was not that it was ugly — of course not. It had accents of gold to decorate the black exterior. The cushions on the inside were colored in a dark navy and comfortable as well. It felt like you were stepping onto unknown terrain; You felt too much like someone of higher status — which you weren’t.
But you didn’t have much time to dwell on it with Capitano sitting beside you. His breaths were calm and cool. You noticed his long tresses the day you’d met him but it was just now that you were admiring the way they framed his mask. Like any other person, you too wondered what was under the mask. He was a decorated fighter, therefore he was bound to have quite a few scars. You thought then that maybe you’d like to see them if he had any.
“You seem to be quite the observant woman,” he commented. Heat rushed up to your face and you tore your eyes away from him and to the window that was showcasing the endless snow and the less-busy streets.
“Sorry. I don’t mean to stare, it’s quite rude..” You fidgeted with your hands in your lap, clearly embarrassed that he had caught you staring.
“You’re not the only one who does,” He said, his voice a little softer. “It’s only natural, human curiosity knows no bounds.” Your eyes shifted from your own hands to his. They were claws, not fleshy fingers like your own. It was then that you realized that he had his own burdens as well. Being the strongest fighter could not have been easy.
You resisted the urge to take his hand in your own to bring at least some type of comfort to him. “Still it must be unsettling.”
“At times, yes. I assume the mask is what attracts that curiosity. If I were to take it off..” He chuckled a little. “I’m sure people would avert their gaze.”
You smiled and gazed out at the window.
“There can be beauty in the darkest of places.”
If he had been without his mask, you would have seen the look of sincerity upon the Captain’s face. This was why he had fallen for you. After observing you for months now, the Harbinger was certain that you would make a wonderful wife for him. You found wonder and happiness in the things that others would deem gloomy and ghastly. Features that society would deem unpleasant were appreciated by you; Looks never deterred you.
But your heart was too giving, in his eyes. The way you disregarded your own feelings to help someone who had hurt you in your past was admirable. To find out that their single lie would cause you this much pain only meant that they had to be taken care of. But that would all be dealt with in due time, out of your presence and without your knowledge of course.
Soon enough, the both of you arrived at your cottage. The Captain was the first to descend, he offered you a hand while you got off of the vehicle. Your fingers lingered on his own before eventually letting go of his hand. “Thank you again, Capitano. I’m grateful.” You offered a warm smile to him.
He only nodded in response, chains clinking during the action. “Think nothing of it. I quite enjoyed conversing with you. Hopefully your visitor did not wait long.”
At this, your expression turned into one of confusion. ‘My visitor?”
“Yes.. Did you not say you had someone waiting for you?” After a moment, you remembered your words to him and laughed softly. The Harbinger stood there looking at you confusedly, though you couldn’t see it of course.
“Wait here,” you said after calming down. You quickly entered your home only to return a moment later holding your beloved feline. Mittens was wrapped in a blanket since you didn’t want to expose him to the frigid weather. “This is who was waiting for me.” Capitano looked down at the feline inquisitively. Mittens peered up at the Harbinger and immediately started reaching for the chains on his helmet, attempting to play with them.
“Ah. I see.” Only you could make Capitano speechless. “This feline, it has a name I'm sure?”
You gazed down at your companion, your eyes were warm and full of love as you cradled him in your arms. “Yes, His name is Mittens.”
“Mittens?”
You reached into the blanket and fished out Mittens’ paw. Mittens had black fur at the ends of his paws only, the rest of him was white. “He looks as if he’s wearing mittens so I named him that.” At this, Capitano chuckled.
“Your naming skills are admirable.”
“Lies,” you joked dramatically before you turned your eyes back to him, “They’re basic at best.” After a few short laughs, you sighed in satisfaction. ‘Today wasn’t all bad’, you thought. “I should probably take him inside..”
Capitano nodded.
“But..” your heart began to race again but you kept yourself under control. “Before I do, um..”
“What is it?” Capitano was interested in what you had to say, especially seeing you so nervous so suddenly. In a short moment, you quickly stood onto your toes and placed a short kiss on his helmet.
“Thank you for today, Capitano.” You smiled up at him warmly, “Have a good night.”
The Captain, surprised by your gesture, stood there with the words caught in his throat. After a quiet moment, he replied simply, “.. Good night to you as well, _____.” Satisfied with the interaction, you took your feline inside the warm cottage and closed the door. Capitano waited for you to disappear into your home after he was sure you were safe for the night, he turned and entered the carriage once more.
Capitano was a busy man most of the time, but this did not mean he was too busy to take care of the problems that ailed you.
And so, like the dutiful lover he was, he got to work rather quickly.
✧⋄⋆⋅⋆⋄✧⋄⋆⋅⋆⋄✧
“Capitano? Why are you here?” It was a bright day in Snezhnaya, one of those days in which the sun reared its head and bathed the snow in its warm rays. In Snezhnaya, this was rare. But despite your love for the colder aspects of the nation, it still brought a smile to your face. Even more so when the man of your latest interest came knocking at your door under the guise of asking you some questions for his work.
The Captain was as direct as ever. “I’ve come on business. I hope this isn’t an inconvenience.”
“Never,” you answered, ushering the man inside your home. “Would you like a cup of tea? Or Coffee?” You adjusted your robe, realizing that you seemed as if you’d just woken up (which you did but you didn’t want him to know that). Mittens hopped down from the kitchen counter and ran to Capitano’s feet. The feline intently sniffed at him, taking in new information about the stranger in your home since you rarely brought people inside
“You need not trouble yourself for my sake,” he denied while watching the feline.
“Nonsense! I was going to make myself a cup of coffee anyway.” You lit the stove and set aside two black mugs before joining Capitano in your living room. Admittedly, you were more nervous than usual, especially after realizing the obvious connection between the two of you.
“Very well then,” The Captain was seated in front of you, Mittens sitting at your side on the sofa. “Do you know someone by the name of Yessenia Ivanov?”
Your heart sank to your stomach. Just what had she done that had garnered the attention of the Harbingers?? “I.. Yes, she is my half sister. Why? She’s not in any trouble is she?” It irked Capitano that you were so worried over someone who had screwed you over. Your heart was too big for the cruel world you lived in. By now, Capitano was aware of Yessenia’s actions.
How?
Well, It wasn’t exactly a difficult task to get his hands on your family’s history.
“I cannot disclose any information about this certain investigation, I'm afraid.” The kettle whistled, causing you to snap out of your trance-like anxiety and tend to it. “However, you do not need to worry. I can assure you that.”
A thousand questions flooded your mind but the act of making coffee soothed your nerves a little. His words made you feel uneasy for once. “.. How do you take your coffee?” Your voice was noticeably quieter; Something the Captain did not miss.
“However you make your own is fine, ______.” In response to your mood dampening, the Captain chose to speak in a softer tone to ease you. Of course, he knew that this entire ordeal would cause you some amount of distress but it was all a means to an end. Even if you had to suffer a little, he was sure that you would be happy once your problems were dealt with. After a few minutes, you returned to the living room with two hot mugs of coffee and set them down on the coffee table.
“So.. What is it that you’d like to know? I’m sure you have more questions.” You seemed a bit more serious now, Capitano noted.
“Have you had any contact with Miss Ivanov?”
“About two weeks ago she came to my door.. Asking for help.” Your eyes averted his gaze, clearly there was something you were hiding.
“Can you specify the contents of that meeting?”
“Is it relevant?”
“Significantly.”
Capitano noticed the silent fire in your eyes. It didn’t take a genius to know that you were on guard. He decided right then that this new, more defiant side of you was quite interesting. “Very well..” you sighed. There was no harm in telling the man what your half-sister had requested you, even if it had been a lie. You told him about her connections to you up until the time that she came to ask you for money. You did not withhold the fact that you had gone to check to see if Yessenia’s mother was actually in critical condition, only to find out that it was a lie.
Aftwards, he thanked you for the information and swiftly finished his cup of coffee before leaving your home as quickly as he had come. But before he left, he told you not to worry at all about her and that justice would be enacted.
You wondered what exactly he meant by that.
Fortunately, you did not have to wait long to find out.
On a snowy afternoon, a month after Capitano came to question you, a letter was sent to your door. The wax seal was that of the Tsaritsa. Along with the Harbingers and other noble-people, you had been selected to attend a banquet to commemorate La Signora and her achievements. Her funeral was first only announced to you because of your closeness to her but you guessed that the Tsaritsa decided to go public with the news.
While you often refrained from going to big gatherings like this, the Tsaritsa’s last sentence to you convinced you to accept the invitation:
‘I know that you are quite a shy one, but it is my belief that your attendance would mean a lot to a certain stoic harbinger we both know.’ you could almost hear the cadence in her laugh; it made you smile that Capitano’s affection for you was that obvious to her.
“What do you think, Mittens?” you glanced down at the feline beside you on the couch. He slowly blinked at you and closed his eyes while you pet him. “I’ll take that as a yes, then.” The banquet was to be held at the end of the week, which meant you had exactly seven days to get ready for it. You flipped through the multitudinous amounts of clothes you had and yet none of them seemed to catch your eye. It wasn’t a surprise to you. It was only natural that you had no ‘fancy’ clothes to wear to the banquet since you often declined invitations like this.
And so, the search for a worthy dress began.
.
.
.
After endless searching, going in and out of boutiques and different dress shops around the city, you’d finally found the perfect dress. It was a simple, yet beautiful, silky fishtail dress. It had silver jewels embroidered around the neckline which you thought was a nice touch. The moment you’d slipped it on, you’d fallen in love with it. Even if you were only going to wear it once, you wanted to wear your best clothes for this banquet.
It was a banquet held in the memory of your closest friend after all.
One evening, after coming home from your monthly visit to Rosalyne’s grave, you entered your home in the late hours of the afternoon, like you always did. There, sitting on your coffee table was an elegantly decorated box. Your brows knitted together in confusion, you certainly hadn’t bought this for yourself.. So who could it be from? You set your bag down on the couch and reached towards the box. “What do you think it is, hm?” you asked your feline who only purred in response, his eyes glued to the box.
It seemed Mittens was curious as to what it was as well.
Your fingers delicately took the top part of the box to reveal a vintage style necklace made of what seemed to be white gold or silver with an obsidian gem at the forefront of it. Your eyes widened as you stared at the clearly expensive necklace; you dared not pick it up in fear of accidentally breaking it. Your eyes then traveled back to the table where there was a hidden note under the box, only to be seen after you’d taken the box in your hands.
“‘It is my hope that you will wear it to the banquet should you decide to attend.’” you read the note aloud. A million thoughts raced through your head but you couldn’t figure one person who would gift you something as expensive as this. Though maybe.. Capitano crossed your mind for a moment but you ruled him out due to the fact that you were certain that he knew not of your feelings towards him.
After all, how could he?
You’d never hinted to it.. had you?
The only other person you could think of .. was your stalker.
The thought of it made you sick. Without another thought, you closed the box and took it upstairs with you where you would store it in a drawer. You could not accept gifts like this, who knows where they got it from?
And more importantly, had they broken into your home?
As you closed your eyes that night to indulge in some much-needed slumber, you failed to notice the pair of sapphires that peered at you outside your window.
Deafening Silence.
This was the very first thing that hit The Captain.
How long has it been? How long has it been since he last heard silence? How long has it been since the agonized screams of his companions had broken into his mind, merging with his soul? While knowing the exact answer to those questions, he was certain that mere words would never be able to convey what he has been through. He had always refused to ask those questions, never wanted to. Even now, guilt ate away at him because he had dared formulate them in his mind. After all, those who suffered the most were his companions. They were the ones who were unable to know rest, stuck in between realms, agony taking ahold of them day and night. He merely carried them with him, listening to their pleas.
Now, they could finally rest.
Before his eyes, a dark canvas stained by thousands upon thousands of stars, some of them fell down, leaving beautiful golden strokes behind them before eventually disappearing in the horizon upon which sky and sea were woven. The Captain…
No, Thrain.
Thrain slowly got up from the sitting position he hadn’t even realized he had kept even after reaching the Night Kingdom. Nothing remained of the throne upon which he had been sitting but smoke. Smoke that eventually faded away in the seemingly infinite landscape. Where was the realm’s limit? Was there even such a thing as a limit in the Night Kingdom?
One step at the time, he marched towards the horizon.
One step at the time…
He began to run towards it.
Running and running until his unfeeling consciousness had its fill.
His gaze abandoned the endless sky and fell down upon the water beneath his feet. Piercing blue eyes stared back at him, his complexion still mostly hidden away by his helmet. He closed them and, without much thought, his hands -still hidden away by his gauntlets- reached up, took ahold of the helmet and stripped it away. The movement was just as steady as when he would duel. Yet, what he saw in the starry sea faltered his resolve.
Once more, those scars were starring back at him. Old, yet still putrid wounds inflicted to him in times past. Perhaps, his desire to hide them away from the world was partly caused by his own desire to ignore them. Yet, part of him did not want to put the helmet back. He kneeled down and carefully put the piece of armor on the surface of the water, hiding his face from his view. The same fate awaited his gauntlets and armguards. As he removed them, he revealed decay and old bruises to the curious yet voiceless Night. The soft clinking of the metal was the sole proof and reminder that he hadn’t suddenly gone completely deaf.
“They are not the only ones who can now rest, right..?”
A soft, hesitant, almost fearful voice resounded in his mind. Alarmed he turned around, seeking its owner. As he found none, Thrain couldn’t help but feel his heart clench. Was a soul left behind? Unable to reach the other realm’s shore… Was it stuck with him? Yet it didn’t sound as pained as his former companions’.
“You can hear me?”
A gasp had preceded the question, and a suffocated sob had followed it. His guard rose up. Was it another being stuck in the Night Realm? Was there a piece of the deal made by Mavuika that was left in the dark? Seemingly unfazed by his lack of verbal answer, the voice continued despite the strain.
“You know, I really thought that you had decided to ignore me…that was until I heard their voices and then, I realized that you were simply taken away from me ⎯ yet another fate awaiting you... I kept asking myself what we had done to deserve such a destiny. I thought that you would never get to rest, that you would never get to hear my voice because it was drowned in others’ cries…”
Realization dawned on him as your pained voice kept echoing around him…No, inside of his mind. As you let your heart pour down on him, he understood that his fate had been, in fact, woven to another’s. Such cruelty. Why had your life been entwined with his? You had tried to reach out to him, yet he never heard you. You, on the other hand, had to hear the agonized echoes that resounded in his mind. Could you even cut off your connection from time to time? Even if the issue was now resolved, you were stuck with a fated partner that would never wake up. One that was eternally sent to another Realm. You would perish long before him…
Your voice, which has stopped without him even realizing, resumed.
“Nameless Soulmate, please, don’t…You’re suffering as well…”
His frantic thoughts quieted down, leaving silence in their wake. Yet, his voice was the one that could be heard next.
“You’re kind.”
“You are too; I know it.”
Thrain’s eyes looked up, starring at the countless pale stars above him.
“Even if we are destined to never meet, I’m still happy I got to hear your voice, at least once in my lifetime.”
He could feel his heartbeat pick up, reminding him that the organ had been there all along, that it hadn’t yet turned to stone despite the long years and the curse. He wondered, what could your life have been like if he had met you back in Khaenri'ah? How would your eyes have sparkled then? What color were they? How soft would your skin have felt under his touch? Would you have kissed his, not yet corroded, face? What would have been the name of your firstborn? How would your face have lit up at the sight of the sea the first time he would have taken you there…?
A stray tear fell down his face.
And then another one,
And another one,
And in the end, sobs erupted from his chest, his scarred fingers reaching out for his tunic, grabbing at it. All this time, he had never even considered the idea that a monster such as him could have a soulmate, that he would ever get to hear their voice…That this voice would sound so soft even after bearing the souls’ cries while thinking that its fated partner had forsaken it all along. Yet here you were. Despite every buried feeling that was slowly clawing its way back to him, he could still hear you trying your best to sooth him, reassuring him as you could in spite of everything that had happened. Although you had never seen him, you shared his thoughts and have clearly had a good indication of the state of his body, of his skin…You knew that you might never meet…And yet, you comforted him…
When he felt that his voice was steady enough, he uttered a few words.
A few words that didn’t seem to belong to the fearless Captain, First of the Fatui Harbinger or to Thrain the khaenri’ahn Commander.
They belonged to a soul that had shouldered much more than it should have. A bright and beautiful soul, one that had fought selflessly… One that had finally discovered that fate had blessed and cursed him at the same time by entwining his life with another’s…
“Thrain… That is the name that was given to me. What is yours...?”
Yet, he wanted to hold onto this bond, even if it were to never see the daylight. Now that everything had come to an end, perhaps he could bare his soul to you, even a little bit.
PART 2 IN PROGRESS!
Columbina
You and Columbina had been dating for quite a while. You hadn’t seen her in a while so you decided to visit her office and maybe spend some time together.
You loved hearing her sing, you loved hearing her soft voice.
You went into her quarters of Zapolyarny Palace and when you entered her office door you saw Columbina cuddling with someone else.
Imagine to your surprise when you found out she was cuddling with not just some ordinary person.
But another Harbinger.
It was Arlecchino.
The both of them were way too close to not look like a couple.
Arlecchino stared at you with her cold gaze which nearly made you shiver.
Columbina found the whole thing amusing. You catching her cheating with one of her fellow Harbingers.
You didn’t even say a word and you fet your heart shattering. You turned your heel walking towards the door when suddenly Columbina called out your name.
“Y/N why don’t you join us hmm?” Columbina asked with her soft voice and her lips curling into a smile.
“You’re shameless.” You spat.
“It seems like someone’s mad” Arlecchino said and the both of them started laughing at you.
You felt humilated. You didn’t want to give them the satisfaction of knowing that their words were getting to you.
But unlike many things in life that you couldn’t control, you couldn’t control the tears that came down your cheeks.
You ran out of there and never looked back. You never wanted to see them ever again.
Pierro
You and Pierro had been married for a while. The both of you loved each other a lot but you started to doubt his feelings towards you. He started coming home late all the time. But he was always late...so why did it start feeling like he wasn’t out doing missions for the fatui all the time?
Then again he is the 1st harbinger and the leader. So it made sense but you couldn’t ignore the gut feeling in your chest.
But one day you recieved a letter in the mail from an anonymous person.
“I have proof that your husband is cheating on you. Head to Zapolarny Palace at 5 pm into his office and you will see.”
You had thought the letter was strange but you couldn’t ignore the same gut feeling in your chest. You headed to Pierro’s office at 5pm.
You opened the door and you walked in on Pierro with another women. They were cuddling on his chair and they looked in love.
The anonymous person was right. He was with another person.
“Pierro? What’s going on? Who’s she?” You asked.
“I fell out of love.” His deep voice made you shudder. “But this wonderful women right here kept me company and we’re in love.”
“But I thought you loved me?..”
“No and get out.” Pierro said with a glare at you.
“W-what?-” You couldn’t finish your sentence as who you recognized to be Childe grabbed you out of his office.
“It’s better not to piss him off.” Childe said in a worried tone. “Are you okay?”
“You were the anonymous letter?” You said with tears in your eyes.
“I felt as if I had to tell you. I didn’t want you to see you getting hurt and wasting your time.” Childe said as he hugged you tightly.
You cried in his chest and Childe comforted you.
Pantalone
You were walking towards the Northland Bank where you wanted to visit your boyfriend. You knew he was really busy all of the time but you really wanted to see him.
You entered the Northland Bank and walked up the stairs to Pantalone’s office. Your hand was on the door knob and you were about to open it when you heard strange noises coming from inside.
You opened the door with a smile as you were excited to see him.
Pantalone looked up from his paper work that he was signing and gave you a smile.
“Oh Y/N” He said “What do I owe you the pleasure today?”
“Oh nothing” You said while walking towards him. “I was wondering if we could do something today?”
“Hmm yes” Pantalone hummed as he got up from his desk and started walking with you towards the door.
The both of you were about to exit his office when suddenly you heard a strange noise.
You looked behind yourself with a confused expression as you went into his office.
“Dear it’s nothing.” He said while trying to grab your arm. “I was thinking we could take a walk around the harbor”
You almost would have believed him. With the way he was so calm, his smile, and because he was your boyfriend.
But you’re no fool.
You looked behind his desk when you saw a girl who was under his desk. Your eyes widened and you pulled her from up from the desk. You were absolutely livid.
“So this is who you’ve been with while you claimed you were busy with work?” You said with tears threatening to spill out of your eyes.
“I wasn’t lying when I said I was busy with work dear.” He said as his smile dropped. “She has been...keeping me company.”
“Your such a fucking bastard.” You screamed as you dropped the girl and walked up to him and slapped him in the face.
You ran out of the Northland Bank with tears in your ears. You were full on crying as you ran towards the nearest alleyway. You sobbed violently as you lost your balance and fell towards the ground.
Meanwhile back at the Northland Bank Childe had seen the entire thing unfold. He saw the way you were so upset. He was standing there feeling pity for you as he watched Pantalone just roll his eyes and walk back into his office.
“I could treat her so much better.” Childe thought.
Capitano
You and Capitano were a rather odd couple. For one, people would point out obvious differences between the both of you. Capitano was known as ruthless, cold, and unforgiving. But you? You were really kind, caring, and your smile was really bright.
People would often question “how did the two of you end up together?” but they were too scared because of Capitano.
You knew that your boyfriend would often train the fatui soldiers and you noticed that him and a certain female agent were getting pretty...close?
You noticed that they would often spar together a lot. You just brushed it off thinking that Capitano loved you a lot and wouldn’t ever cheat on you. Or even break your heart.
You expressed your concerns to him but he would often respond with
“You don’t have anything to worry about.”
“We just like sparring together.”
One day you got fed up when you saw Capitano and that female fatui agent was smiling and brushing. You confronted Capitano about it and the two of you got into a huge argument about it.
Capitano ended up storming out and you were left by yourself to gather your thoughts together.
Maybe you were overthinking things? Maybe they don’t actually have feelings for each other?
You baked deserts and added them to a basket and figured you would share it with him as a way to apologize for overthinking things. You loved him a lot and you didn’t want to throw everything away just for that.
You were walking towards the training grounds when you spotted Capitano and the same female fatui agent with each other.
You were frozen at the next thing that happened.
He had lifted his helmet and kissed her on the lips.
You were heartbroken. You were shocked.
You walked up to them and took one of the deserts and threw it at Capitano.
You ran away after that with tears in your eyes. You couldn’t believe it.
Childe
You were babysitting his younger brother Teucer and the both of you hung out around Snezhnaya. You took Teucer outside and the both of you were building a snowman in the cold winter.
“Y/N look at my snowman!” Teucer said with a big smile.
“It looks great! Good Job Teucer!” You patted Teucer on the head.
The both of you decided to make some hot chocolate but in order to do that the two of you needed to go into town and buy some supplies.
You walked with Teucer into town when you had noticed Childe inside a tavern.
“That’s weird” You thought. “Maybe Childe finished his harbinger duties early?”
You walked closer but you saw Childe making out with another girl. You couldn’t believe it.
“Y/N is that my big brother?” Teucer asked “I want to go inside!”
You didn’t stop him. You just continued staring at Childe through the window of the tavern.
Teucer walked inside the tavern and shouted “hey big brother!”
Childe jumped when he heard his younger brother’s voice.
“Oh hey Teucer. Aren’t you supposed to be with Y/N? Where is she?” Childe said with a puzzled expression.
“She’s right there!” Teucer pointed at your teary face. “Wait why is she crying?”
Childe looked behind himself and knew he was fucked. He had gotten caught. His gaze met your teary face.
You ran off back to your shared home and for the next few hours crying. While you were babysitting his younger brother, he was off cheating on you with another girl.
Arlecchino
You noticed Arlecchino was becoming rather distant? She would always come home late, and she basically stopped acknowledging your presence. You wanted to make things work out so badly. You loved her a lot.
You didn’t even bother knocking on her office door as Arlecchino said that you were always welcomed. But she wasn’t even inside. You just decided to head back home and wait for her there.
You were walking through the long halls of Zapolarny Palace you noticed how some fatui agents would point and laugh at you. You were confused. Whhy were they laughing at you?
Some fatui agent walked up to you while giggling and asked “hey where’s your girlfriend”
“I don’t know, maybe she’s busy?”
“Yeah really busy alright” The fatui agent started laughing “you are so oblivious.”
“What?” You asked confused “where is she?”
Suddenly Arlecchino showed up and everybody immediately went silent. You turned around and saw some other person holding her arm and giving her a kiss.
You recognized that person to be Columbina.
“Why are you with her?”
“She’s my new girlfriend” Arlecchino gave her a kiss on the forehead. “I told you we broke up”
“Broke up? You haven’t even said a word to me all week and the next time I see you you’re with another girl? You didn’t even tell me you wanted to break up” You said angrily. “Fuck you.”
You ran out of Zapolarny Palace after that while people sent you pitiful looks. You didn’t need their pity though.
Scaramouche
Your relationship with Scaramouche was rather odd. Sometimes he would brush you off or say rude things but you always knew that he didn’t mean it. You would tell yourself that he loved you just as much as you did.
You were informed by Pulcinella that your boyfriend Scaramouche had ran off during a mission in Inazuma and that he hasn’t returned to the fatui ever since. You were initially questioned because the Harbingers thought you knew where he was, but they soon realized that you didn’t know where he ran off too either. You were quite upset because you haven’t seen him in a long time. Thoughts were swirling in your head such as
“Where did he go?”
“Why did he run off?”
But more importantly, you wondered if you would ever see him again. You really missed him.
You decided to take a stroll around Inazuma to clear your mind for a bit. You taken the path to Chinju Forest when you saw two people behind a tree. Your heart had stopped. You realized it was Scaramouche.
“Kuni? Is that you?” You asked but you immediately regretted it when you saw Scaramouche with another girl and they were full on making out.
“Huh Y/N?” He said pulling away. “Oh what are you doing here?”
“What am I doing here?” You said pissed off. “The fatui are looking for you and why are you with her? I thought you loved me?”
“Hmph that’s none of your business” He rolled his eyes.
“So this is it? You’re leaving me for her?” You said with tears in your eyes.
You didn’t even wait for a response. You were heartbroken.
Dottore
You knew Dottore was always immersed in his research. Sometimes he would even tell you about what he was working on. One day he hired somebody as his assistant to help him with his research.
It didn’t bother you that much. In fact you were happy for him because the both of them shared the same interests. But it all started when he started cancelling dates or when he would come home really late and skip dinner. he would tell you that he had already eaten in the lab.
The topic of your conversations quickly were only about him talking about how awesome his new assistant was. How nice they were.
He would hang out with his assistant more than you and the both of you slowly drifted apart.
You were jealous and you felt insecure. You didn’t know anything about things concering his research or anything like that. You felt lonely so naturally you decided to pay him a visit.
But when you entered his lab you found him and his assistant.
They were making out.
“You’re really cheating on me with her?” You said while wiping your tears away. “Fine then. Goodbye Dottore.”
You’re simply standing on stage talking to your dear fans, with Capitano stationed nearby as he talks through other security guards who are inspecting the area to keep you safe. He couldn’t help but admire your caring and thoughtful self towards your fans, who all listened to you with admirance and eagerness. He’d be lying if he said he doesn’t understand them, not when he too admires you.
It’s still a surprise to him that you’re dating someone like him, who doesn’t deserve to be with you at all (even though you disagreed about his words about himself). Yet he didn’t seem to mind it, not when he feels like he’s the happiest man on Earth whenever he’s with you.
The two of you met while you were looking for a personal bodyguard from the Fatui organization who could protect you ever since your fame rose above to the skies, and to his surprise you picked him for such a role despite many protests from both your manager and the one in charge of introducing you to your choices.
“He looks like he knows his stuff.” You explained to your manager, who feels uneasy at the sight of the tall man. “I think I can trust him in protecting me. Are you fine with that, big guy?”
He nodded in response, curious of you.
Being your bodyguard is certainly a breath of fresh air, if Capitano could describe it. Not only do you always check on his well being, you also treat him as if he’s your friend unlike his previous bosses, who’d treat him as if he’s a weapon or some dog.
As much as he didn’t want to admit it, he found himself caring for you.
He felt proud of your achievements, pity for you whenever you cried, giving you advice when you asked him for something, and of course, the urge to protect you from harm’s way whenever the both of you are out together.
It took him a while to realize that the way his face would grow warm, the way his stomach feels as if it’s twisting and flying, the way he feels lured by you, the way he felt something when you didn’t seem to mind his quietness and how he always wears his helmet, and the way he feels weird are all simply his love for you that grew strong day by day.
When you confessed your feelings for him one night, it all hit him like a train, and he couldn’t help but carry you and twirl you around regardless of your weight as you laugh and squeal from his sudden reaction after being frozen for a minute.
He never expected himself that he’d end up this way, happily being dedicated to his job and happily being your boyfriend who always looks out for you.
Capitano thought everything would be fine.
Until a gunshot was heard.
It was so loud – too loud – his ears began to ring as he immediately looks at where you are with worry, and you’re just standing there with your words dying in your throat.
It was only when he sees you looking at his direction in shock before falling down to the floor that Capitano instantly runs towards you as the audience panics and starts running away in fear.
“Tell me where it hurts, ( Name ).” He said as he immediately looks for the gunshot wound, his heart racing in fear for you and for your life. You were just fine moments ago, you were just okay back there–
“Ca.. Capitano…” You choked out, breathing heavily. “I’m… I’m sorry you have to see me l-like this.”
It felt like the world slowly stopped around the both of you when Capitano saw blood seeping out from your clothing, his heart sank in dread. “You’ll be okay, ( Name ). You’ll be okay, your manager’s calling the ambulance, you’ll be okay.”
“They won’t make it.” You said, crying out in pain when you felt him pressuring your wound with a ripped cloth to stop the bleeding. “I… I won’t make it, Capitano.. You need to get out b-before they might shoot you t-too–”
“I’m not leaving you, ( Name ). You will make it.”
“I love you, Capitano.. This is never your fault.”
“No, don’t talk to me that way. You’re not going to leave me this way–”
You slowly reach out to his helmet, caressing it with a pained smile. “This.. is just like those movies we’ve watched, rig..ht?” You close your eyes shut and wince when you feel your wound once again. “I don’t wan.. Want to die either, Capitano.”
“You won’t die, just stay with me, ( Name ).”
Just in time, the medical team arrived to take you to the ambulance waiting for you, and Capitano didn’t hesitate to help them carry you and follow them towards the ambulance as the other security found the people behind this cruel moment. He can help them later, what matters to him more is to be there for you and hope you’ll be okay.
When you slowly reach your hand out towards him while on your way to the hospital, he held your hand in response with no intentions of letting go.
You’ll be okay. You’ll be taken care of and have your bullet removed, then you’ll perfectly be alive and well.
Then once you’re okay, Capitano can fix his mistake and make sure you won’t go through this painful experience again. He’ll be there for you as you recover your wound and continue your lives together as a happy couple.
And once he’s ready… He can remove his mask and show his face that he feared will make you leave him, but he knows long enough that you wouldn’t so such thing, not when you remind him just how much you love him.
So why… why did it all go wrong?
“GET AWAY FROM ME!” Capitano roared as the nurses held him back from coming to the room as you cried out his name in pain, the doctors tending to your wounds as best as they could. “THEY NEED ME, LET ME GO!”
It took a few or less agonizing hours until he was finally allowed to go inside your room.
When he did, you’re already gone.
He thought you were just sleeping peacefully, but when he realized you weren’t, it felt like his heart stopped beating.
What went wrong?
“I’m sorry for your loss, sir.” The doctor spoke as he stood behind the bodyguard in remorse. “We did everything we could, but unfortunately Mx. ( Last Name ) lost too much blood–”
“Get out of my sight.” Capitano spoke coldly, staring at your now lifeless body.
He tries to hold himself back from destroying everything and possibly kill someone in anger that he wasn’t there for you when you got shot, that he wasn’t there for you when you entered the surgery room crying in pain, that he wasn’t there for you when you died.
The doctor didn’t hesitate to leave the room, but not without one last look of sympathy before closing the door, leaving the man alone with your corpse.
As soon as the door closes shut, Capitano finally broke down his cold composure, his head leaning down on your hand as his breath is shaking from the thought that you’re gone forever. If people saw him now, their perspective of the fearsome bodyguard would change everything.
“...I’m sorry, ( Name ).”
I’m sorry I wasn’t there for you before your last breath. I’m sorry I wasn’t able to stop the gunshot. I’m sorry I wasn’t enough to protect you. I’m sorry you weren’t able to see my face.
