Much like I will not pretend that TOS is somehow gayer than any of the Berman era shows no matter how much you tell me Spirk is totally canon, I will not pretend DS9 is somehow gayer than modern trek that has gay characters played by real gay actors, who are allowed to be queer in more than one episode, who don’t need the step removed of being an alternate universe version of a main character to be queer, or to have been in a straight relationship with their queer love interest in a previous life. Plus, real trans people exist in modern Star Trek. Not just allegorical worms.
I LOVE DS9, I love Rejoined, I love the mirror universe episodes and the mirror versions of the cast, I love the Trill, I love love love Jadzia and Lenara and Intendant Kira and prime Ezri and Mirror Ezri and Mirror Leeta, and yes all the subtext queerness as well.
But I’m not going to pretend it’s somehow better than where we are now.
I mean, it is better than SNW season 3 but that’s an outlier.
A queer he/they black guy plays a sensitive gay Klingon on the current main Star Trek show. We had a Trill character played by an actual trans person who was both trans and a Trill. A pansexual black woman was the main character of a whole show. Thats amazing.
I love our classics, but we need to live in the now.
sam’s first instinct when red hulk appears is to lead ross to the park with cherry blossoms. and sam listens to people so ofc he knows (hopes) that ross would come back to his senses seeing the pretty pink flowers in bloom like it just makes me scream how good sam wilson is (and this was also depicted heavily in tfatws with karli) like! bro. that’s a real hero

STAR TREK: STRANGE NEW WORLDS (2022- ) ↳ Captain Angel / “Dr. Aspen” in The Serene Squall [5/?]
Lgbt+ star trek characters cause it's pride :]
I just love the fact that Sarek, Sybok, and Spock all fell in love with a human and each of those humans was a different gender
Star Trek: Strange New Worlds established that Captain Angel, portrayed by Jesse James Keitel is non-binary. The character uses both she/her and they/them pronouns.
During their conversation with Spock - noting that maybe he may be neither Human nor Vulcan and can reject the societal pressure to fit into either box - Angel alludes to their relationship with gender resembling that of the agender identity: a gender identity where individuals do not identify with any specific gender, or experience a lack of gender altogether.
She still embraces her femininity and prefers she/her pronouns as well as they/them pronouns suggesting they may resonate with the afeminine gender.
So here’s an agender and afeminine icon of Angel both in tribute and awe of this character. (Because I personally have a huge crush on her.)
