Despite being ordinarily pretty roughly-spoken, all of the loyal Dressrosan soldiers address King Riku with very polite/respectful Japanese, even after he makes it clear he’s not their king anymore. His former commander here, Tank, starts by addressing him as あんた/anta before correcting to the more polite あなた/anata and switching to polite forms as he becomes more sure of ‘Ricky’s’ identity.

It actually reminds me quite a lot of how the the Galley-La shipwrights address Iceburg- they also tended to be very casual and rude in their everyday speech, but would always change to polite language when talking to him.

And this is another example of just how...consuming Doflamingo’s plan was, because it required a lot of things to fall exactly into place but the fact that he dismantled the entire country in the span of a single night is terrifying and I feel like really makes it apparent what kind of force they’re going up against here.

Dressrosa seemed like a legitimately nice place to live under the Riku family so of course Doflamingo had to come in and ruin everything

This arc obviously takes a long time to resolve but I like that even at this point we start getting these hints as to where things are going because there are obviously enough people still around that are willing to turn against Doflamingo...they just need the means to do so...
