Rambling about Fairies - Volume 21 End Notes
There's some interesting information in these cards!
So first in Joey’s card, I think this is the first time we get canonical instance of tattoos being erased by magic. This comes into play later in Sabertooth. Also, bodybuilding competitions apparently run under the same rules as traditional Japanese bathhouses in this world and I think that’s funny.
Chico's magic has a really cool concept and I wish we saw it in play. I wish we knew how it interacts with Bickslow's magic, too. Also, it especially mentions Chico's magic is 'extremely powerful'. I really wish we saw more of it to know what that meant.
Anyways, her family owns both the dorms and a local cafe? Cool. I think it's appropriate considering this implied Chico can only take jobs inside of Magnolia, so she's usually doing jobs at home instead.
And of course, Kinana's card. It's sweet Mashima gave this to us right after Nirvana. She's trying to learn takeover?? Cool. I wish she used it, then, what on earth happened to that? She seems magicless to me.
I think it's both fitting and sad that she dislikes snakes. She got turned into one, so I guess eh, makes sense.
I'm not personally a fan of the direction of her design with the frills and all, but it's unique, so I wish she kept it. Also her lime green to dark purple palette is really nice. I'm really happy she got a continuation to her story in the anime.
Thanks Zoro

Ch168 and ch169, Correction and question about contracts
I thought this wording from ch168 was a bit weird. I assumed she meant she was doing stuff she wasn’t being paid for, but that would not be a rule. It would be against the rule.
So, if you downloaded the chapter before the correction was made, you should now be able to download the corrected version.
Now, In ch169, Jane is saying to Abbie that loyalty wasn’t in the job description; it wasn’t in the contract. A bit odd for a contract of this nature, isn’t it?
This reminds me entirely too much of Sebastian’s contract with our earl; back in ch138, he agrees to the loyalty/no betrayal term of the contract, but he emphasizes that it’s already his aesthetic to never take more than one contract at a time.
So, Sebastian is saying that loyalty comes along with his contracts, even if it’s not specified.
Jane is saying that loyalty does NOT come along with her contracts; it MUST be specified. And... she’s walking away.
Is she a human with no sense of loyalty? Or is she a something with not only no sense of loyalty, but also no desire to stick out the contract? She could be a human who has simply reached the end of what she will endure.
However, she could also be someone they have to deal with again... if she signs on to work for another adversary.
Does she mean that? That she will see them again?
Reminds me of Grelle telling Sebastian and our earl they will meet again soon. Except Grelle collected Agni’s soul without actually confronting them. So, she could mean it... or she could just be saying that in a non-committed sort of way.
And I keep being reminded that she once spoke of the shapes of souls. Does she know something about that... or is it just something she heard from Chris Heathfield and has simply been parroting? 🤔
Such an underrated moment between these two
And yet, Deku, if you had, so much stuff could have been avoided.
