Felix had had his eyes on a boy for quite some time now. They first met in a cafe, as both were studying there during exam time. Their daily schedules seemed to overlap right at that point, so day after day, Felix had watched the boy from a distance, until he eventually had enough courage to ask to join him. From that day forward, their study sessions were slightly less productive, but they both liked having company.
Felix always tried his best to be on time, and even made sure to alter his own schedule so that he could study with his new friend. Until now, Felix only knew the name, age and major of the other boy, and some of his likes and dislikes. For the rest, the boy was still a mysterious and quiet person.
But Felix was set on discovering more about his friend Changbin, wanting to get to know him better. Felix didn't want to admit, that all of this was because his heart made a little flutter everytime he saw Changbin smile, but he slowly had to accept the fact that he was developing a crush on him.
━━━━━━━━ ✤ ━━━━━━━━
Felix entered the cafe, his gaze immediately travelling to the usual spot. He hesitated slightly with walking over, seeing Changbin with another guy. The guy was looming over the smaller boy, and from his facial expression and body language, it was clear that something was wrong. Felix stayed in his spot, watching the male talk to Changbin. Was he scolding him? He didn't look friendly, and Felix hated how fake Changbin's smile looked.
As the male stood up straight, he said one last thing, making Felix ball his fists as he saw Changbin's reaction. Who was this male that dared to make Changbin's expression show hints of fear? Felix took a deep breath, trying to stay calm as the male walked past him, exiting the cafe. Felix glanced back, watching the male disappear in the street. He then walked over to Changbin, sitting down across of him.
"Hey. Who was that?" Changbin looked up, smiling slightly, trying to look unbothered. "Just a friend.. Nothing to worry about." Felix wanted to say something, but Changbin had already put some books on the table. "Let's start with mathematics this time. Get the hard things out of the way." Changbin looked at Felix, seeing his questioning expression. "It's nothing. Don't worry. Just a friend." Changbin tried to smile again, hoping to play it off right.
"You sure?" Felix raised an eyebrow, grabbing his books from his bags, without letting his eyes look away from Changbin. "Yes, I'm sure. Now, shall we start?" Felix nodded and opened his books. They started studying, helping eachother out with some equations or incomprehensible scribbles from their teachers. Felix noticed Changbin's focus was different than usual, but he decided to just let it go. He didn't want to break Changbin's trust, so he hoped that this was something they could maybe talk about later.
━━━━━━━━ ✤ ━━━━━━━━
As they finished their study session, they both grabbed a coffee to go before stepping out of the cafe. Felix made a joke, at which Changbin laughed loudly. He had seemed to forgotten about the situation earlier, and Felix was glad to be able to make him smile genuinly again. Unfortunately, Changbin's smile disappeared quickly as someone called out to him. "Hey fattie!"
Changbin stopped walking, and Felix could literally see the extreme change in Chagbin's expression. Felix stopped as well, looking around to see who called out to them. Felix wasn't surprised as he saw the male from earlier walking in their direction. "Who told you to study so long? Huh, you big fat nerd." The male smiled at Changbin, as if his words hadn't been any kind of insult. Changbin smiled back fakely, chuckling softly. "Nobody but.. I just want to pass my exams."
Felix watched the male wrap one arm around Changbin's smaller frame, and Changbin seemed uncomfortable. Felix cleared his throat and took a deep breath. "Well, hello to you too. I think we haven't met before." Felix looked at the male with a stern expression. "Yes, indeed we haven't. Who are you again? Were you hanging out with this little know-it-all?" Felix nodded, disliking the way the male spoke about Changbin.
"Yes, I did. We study together every day. I'm Felix. And.. who are you?" The male chuckled and smiled, looking at Changbin. "You didn't tell him about me? Oh you idiot, did you forget? I thought you were smarter than that." The male then looked at Felix with a cocky smile. "I'm his boyfriend ofcourse. Who else should I be?" Felix blinked a few times, perplexed at this information. This rude male was Changbin's partner?
Changbin took a deep breath and looked at the taller male, nudging him softly. "Let's just go. You wanted to take me out for dinner tonight, right?" "Yes indeed. If you behave yourself this time. I don't want to see that childish behaviour again, understood?" Changbin nodded, fakely smiling again. "Yeah. No more childish behaviour."
Felix felt his blood boil at the way the two interacted. You couldn't call this a healthy relationship... "See you, Felix." Changbin waved at Felix, Felix smiling and waving back. "Come on you idiot. Let's go for dinner." With that, Changbin's boyfriend spun him around, harshly pulling him along. Felix watched them walk off, astounded at how Changbin let the taller male rule over him like that. He sighed and looked down, feeling a stinging pain in his chest. Maybe Changbin was happy like this..
Days passed by, and soon weeks passed by, Changbin being disappointed as Felix didn't show up to their study sessions anymore. On one side he was sad to have lost a friend, but on the other side it meant he wouldn't have to hide his bruises and pain. Changbin tried to figure out why Felix had gone radio silent like this. Was it because of his boyfriend? His boyfriend meant it well, right? Those names were just for fun, even if they might hurt Changbin. It was all just a joke.. right?
━━━━━━━━ ✤ ━━━━━━━━
One evening, Changbin and his boyfriend went out to watch a movie. Changbin was excited, bouncing happily as they waited for their tickets. He felt a hit from his boyfriend against his arm, and he felt a stare that told him to be quiet and act normal. Changbin quickly dropped his happiness and stood there, silent and without moving, until the arm around his waist guided him towards the snack counter. Changbin looked at all the snacks available, but the harsh squeeze in his side let him know that he could only get what his boyfriend chose for him.
As they sat down in their seats, Changbin sighed slightly. He regretted this action almost immediately, as he heard a disapproving sound from his partner. "What now? I take you to the movies and buy you snacks and you're still upset? Geez, you're such an ungrateful bitch." "No no, I didn't mean it like that." Changbin looked at his partner, who just shook his head in disappointment. Changbin looked down and grabbed his phone, searching through his contacts. He glanced sideways to see if he wasn't watched, before sending Felix a text.
'Felix.. can you please meet me outside of the cinema? I'm sorry for everything. I don't want this anymore..'
Changbin quickly sent the text, putting his phone away as the movie started. He looked at the screen, letting his partner hand him some popcorn before trying to enjoy the movie. But the words kept coming back in his mind. Idiot.. fattie.. ungrateful bitch.. Changbin balled his fist, the scrunching sound of crushed popcorn being loud enough to be heard by his partner. Changbin flinched, but before his boyfriend could even begin to say anything, Changbin had ran out of the room.
━━━━━━━━ ✤ ━━━━━━━━
Changbin was in tears as he sat down on the steps in front of the cinema. He hid his face in his hands, his whole body trembling from fear. He hated standing up against his partner like this, as he knew what the result would be. He would get scolded, maybe even punished. Changbin let out a sound of straight up fear, his watery eyes looking around for a place to hide. He hadn't noticed the figure running towards him, wiping his tears to try and see better.
Changbin flinched as he felt two arms wrap around him, but was quickly soothed by a familiar voice. "Shh.. it's okay. It's me. It's Felix." Changbin whimpered softly, hiding his face in Felix's shoulder. Felix stroked over Changbin's back, looking around for Changbin's partner. What the hell did that guy do now to make Changbin this upset? Felix saw the door of the cinema open, the tall male walking out. "Yah! You bitch! You can't just run away like that!"
Changbin made himself even smaller in Felix's embrace. Felix took a deep breath and glared at the male. "What did you call him? Do you think it's normal to keep calling him names like that?!" The male looked at Felix, furious at them. "Get away from him you filthy foreigner! I'm his boyfriend. He should listen to me." Felix gasped and let go of Changbin, standing in front of him protectively. "You called me a what?" "A filthy foreigner! Now get out of the way." "Never."
Felix blocked an attempt of the taller male to push him away. The male huffed and glared at Felix. "What are you gonna do? Steal him? Go ahead! You won't be his boyfriend." "As if you are such a good boyfriend. Do you see what you're doing to him?" "Oh come on, he's just a crybaby about this stuff." Felix crossed his arms. "No, your toxic behaviour is striking fear into his very soul. Get away from him or I'll call the cops." "You won't do that.”
Felix smirked and grabbed his phone, ready to call the emergency number. He saw a hint of surprise and disbelief in the taller male. "Wha- No no. Just, forget it. Just run away, Changbin. I'll find you again. You'll pay for this." Changbin was still sobbing, leaning against Felix's legs. Felix raised his phone to his ear, the taller male freaking out more. "Stop! Stop already geez! I'm gone!" The male began walking off. "See, I'm gone. You can stop calling now."
Felix watched the male disappear back into the cinema, putting his phone back in his pocket. He knelt down next to Changbin, stroking over his head. "He's gone. He won't hurt you anymore." Changbin looked at Felix, sniffling as the tears kept coming. Felix smiled gently at him, wiping away the tears from his cheeks with his thumbs. "Come on, let's go for a walk. It might help you calm down."
━━━━━━━━ ✤ ━━━━━━━━
Changbin held Felix's hand as they walked through the dim-lit streets. He wasn't scared anymore, not even this late at night. He squeezed softly in Felix's hand, having calmed down a lot. "Thank you, Felix." "You're welcome. I actually wanted to confront him the first time I saw him but.." Felix looked at Changbin. "I didn't want to assume anything. I thought you might be happy with him but.. I totally understand that you ran away like that."
Changbin smiled and nodded. "It took some courage but.. I'm glad you came. I thought you would never respond to my text.." "Well.. I did. It may have been just two sentences, but I somehow felt your fear." Felix nodded and took a deep breath. "Should I uhm.. do you live with him? You can sleep over-" "Did you have a crush on me?"
Felix was taken aback by the sudden question, gulping softly. "Uhm..well.." "That's why you stopped coming. Because you didn't want to hurt yourself." Changbin looked at Felix. "Do you still have that crush? You don't think I'm fat or childish?" Felix stopped and turned to Changbin, cupping his face. "No. You are you. I don't have anything to say about that. I.. yeah I have a crush on you. I've had it since the moment I first saw you." Felix smiled and chuckled. "Why do you think I joined you that day?"
Changbin looked into Felix's eyes, a blush spreading over his cheeks. "You... really?" "Yes really." Felix blushed as well, averting his eyes for a moment. "I like you, and I'd love to get to know you better. But.. after this all, I also understand if you want some time alone." Changbin bit his lip and put his hands around Felix's waist. "I might not be ready for a new boyfriend yet.. but a good friend is always welcome in my opinion."
Felix and Changbin both smiled brightly, Felix pulling Changbin into a tight hug. Changbin nuzzled into Felix, Felix stroking over Changbin's back. He closed his eyes, letting this moment be special. "You're my friend..and maybe even more. I will never call you names or rule over you." "Thank you. I.. I.. I don't know what to say." "You don't have to say anything." Felix chuckled softly, pressing a soft kiss to Changbin's head. "Just enjoy this moment."
Changbin made a soft sound, smiling genuinly. He took in Felix's body warmth and listened to the faint sound of his heartbeat, feeling safe in Felix's embrace. Felix held Changbin close, swearing to himself to protect Changbin from any bad thing in the world.
