You paced through your room nervously, thinking fast. You had waited until all the guys had gone back to their rooms first. You had been sure that going back down and speaking up against all of them at once would be a fight you were bound to lose. But you weren't going to give up. On the one side, you were furious at all of them. The fact that they still kept, or at least tried to keep, secrets from you pissed you off exceptionally. You had expected them to be open and honest with you ever since they found out you are their goddess, but apparently, this was still not the case. Which in turn made you anxious as well. What more were they keeping from you? You huffed. Filled with emotion, you suddenly barged out of the door, not caring anymore if any of them would hear you. You walked over to the door closest to you and knocked.
'Yeah,' Changbin's voice sounded. He had barely spoken before you pulled open the door and stamped into his room. Changbin was sitting on his bed, lifting a heavy-looking dumbbell with one arm while checking the mirror for his posture opposite him.
'What is the solstice?' you demanded, your emotions too intense to be subtle about it. A small muscle pulled in Changbin's face, but he didn't stop his workout. He lifted the dumbbell several more times in silence. You stared silently at him, his skin glistening with droplets of sweat, making his muscles seem all the more defined. You were taken aback and maybe even disappointed that he hadn't seemed too surprised about you knowing. Had he sensed you when you had listened in on them? Felt your body heat at the top of the stairs? Or had Han told him? And if so, had he told the others, too?
'Once every, hmmm, I don't know how many years exactly,' Changbin began slowly, his muscles still rippling under his skin as he carried on like nothing surprising had happened, 'but let's say once in a while, the solstice comes around.' He looked in the mirror thoughtfully and paused, not looking at you and still working out. You took a step closer to him, feeling like you were going to burst if he didn't talk more soon.
'To be honest, I'm actually not sure why we call it a solstice, but I remember Seungmin saying something about the positions of the planets...'' Changbin said, chuckling dryly to himself.
'Changbin,' you said his name firmly, trying not to yell at him. Finally, he looked at you through the mirror. Slowly, he put down his dumbbell and turned to you, his dark eyes meeting yours. Their brown color seemed to be redder than usual, and it was clear he hadn't dyed his hair in a while, as his red roots were starting to show again. Changbin sighed.
'What do you want to know?' he asked in a tired voice. He knew he wouldn't be able to argue with you.
'Everything,' you stated, taking another step towards him. Changbin nodded slowly, pressing his lips together and looking at you. He sighed once more before starting to speak.
'The "solstice" is a phenomenon that is defined by certain planets and stars being in certain positions. Don't ask me which ones, though; that's Seungmin's area, and I always forget the names. Anyway, as I assume you've heard, it is a period in which our powers are... amplified,' Changbin explained.
'How much?' you asked instantly. The muscle in Changbin's face pulled again, and he folded his hands together.
'A lot,' he said the words softly as if he was afraid to say more. You looked at him, still feeling the anger bubbling inside while trying to suppress a sudden urge to touch his glistening muscles.
'So?' you said, challengingly, lifting your chin at him haughtily.
'So?' Changbin repeated, getting up from the bed now and taking a step towards you, looking at you and mirroring your frown. 'Y/n, it can be dangerous,' he said, looking at you worriedly. You huffed at his comment. Changbin clicked his tongue in annoyance and took another step towards you. 'You weren't there, you didn't see what happened the past few times,' he said urgently.
'So then, what happened?' you asked carelessly. Changbin opened his mouth to speak, his face pained and annoyed, but you wouldn't budge as you still gave him that challenging look. 'We've caused damage... pain... hurt people... Trust me, it's dangerous,' Changbin said, shaking his head.
'You won't hurt me,' you said instinctively. Changbin clicked his tongue again, huffing in exasperation.
'You don't know that. We don't know that,' he said, starting to sound fierce now, too.
'You won't hurt me,' you repeated steadfastly. Changbin hissed in anger and shot forward, his sudden move towards you startling you for a second. He grabbed your hands in his, fingers intertwining, and his face close to yours. His red doll-shaped lips seemed to invite you in, but you refused to move.
'You feel this?' he hissed through his teeth as he squeezed your hands softly. It was only then that you realized his hands were extremely hot in yours, and you automatically pulled your hands back from him. He instantly let go, his hard, angry gaze softening when he noticed your startled and uncomfortable face.
'Yeah,' he said, his voice sounding pained now, 'it's already started, and it'll only get worse.' He turned around and walked back to the bed, but he didn't sit back down on it.
For a moment, you were taken aback by what happened, staring at his broad shoulders while your heart raced.
'No,' you whispered, more to yourself than to him as you walked over to him. Carefully, you grabbed his hand, taking it into yours once more. Startled by your actions, he tried to pull back, but you didn't let him.
'No, Binnie, look at me, you won't burn me,' you told him, using your other hand now too to keep him from pulling himself free from your grip. You tried to find his eyes, dark but always with that red tinge that you knew would get more intense when he was using his powers or feeling something strongly. Your heart seemed to focus on him only, and suddenly, his hand didn't seem too hot anymore at all. They were simply warm, nice, and comfortable, like a warm bath after a long day. Changbin finally looked up at you, meeting your eyes.
'See, it's fine,' you said calmly. His expression was still scared and worried, but he stopped his efforts to get free. 'You're not hurting me,' you said confidently, staring at him intently. His red eyes seemed to suddenly be glued to your face, his lips slightly parting. It was as if you could hear his heartbeat, syncing with yours, loud and fast. You felt hot, but not because of the heat he was radiating this time.
Without breaking eye contact, you slowly brought his hand to your face, carefully placing his palm on your cheek, so he was cupping your face.
'You could never hurt me,' you said softly. You could see his eyes grow redder with the second, his gaze switching from your eyes to your lips as his face inched closer to yours. You leaned in towards him, lips almost touching his and tasting his breath. You couldn't help but grin to yourself.
'I am your goddess,' you whispered onto his lips.
'Yes,' he replied breathlessly.
'You can't hurt me,' you breathed into his mouth.
'Never,' he mumbled entranced, his lips touching yours now.
A sudden loud bang made Changbin jerk back, away from you. Startled and frozen, you blinked a few times.
'S-sorry!' Changbin called out loudly, scratching the back of his head sheepishly and looking at the floor.
'Excuse me?' You said, looking at him incredulously. Changbin looked up at you and grimaced before clearing his throat awkwardly.
'I, erm, Seungmin, erm, he... It was a warning,' Changbin said vaguely, backing away from you and walking to the door.
'Pardon?' You blinked, feeling even more bewildered and annoyed.
'I erm,' Changbin said, looking away from you and grabbing hold of the doorknob. You suddenly noticed how red his eyes had become and how pink his cheeks had turned. 'I was thinking a bit too loud,' Changbin mumbled awkwardly.
For a moment, your brain didn't seem to work, but then you understood.
'He, erm, he warned me Channie might hear, so... and since he asked us to stay away.. for now,' he said, turning his glowing eyes back to you. His gaze was like a lion looking at its prey, and your heart skipped.
A sizzling sound and another bang from downstairs pulled both of you back again once more. Changbin swore, looking at the molten doorknob in his hand.
'YEA!' He growled loudly, and you knew it was directed at Seungmin's second warning. 'Better go back to your room, baby girl,' he said in a softer voice, indicating his head for you to leave, but his eyes seemed reluctant. You stiffly made your way over to the door as Changbin swore under his breath, trying to unstick the simmering pieces of doorknob from his fingers.
You chewed the inside of your cheek in annoyance. After yesterday evening's frustration, you had hoped to be able to alleviate some of it the following morning. But as soon as you got out of bed, your hopes instantly faded away.
Grumbling to yourself, you stared at the seven notes that had been slid underneath your door. You were sure they all contained some stupid bullshit explanation of why they wouldn't be home today and that they were "so sorry".
'Liars,' you grunted to yourself. You weren't even sure why they bothered to lie to you when some of them already knew that you knew that Chan had told them to stay away.
'Wow, didn't sleep well?' Adam asked hesitantly as he saw you stamping through the busy hallway towards him.
'Slept fine,' you said shortly. 'Where's Sera?' You asked him as the two of you made your way to the cafeteria. You felt like you could really use some feminine energy at the moment.
'What? Am I not good enough for you anymore?' Adam snorted.
'No-I-' you began to apologise, but Adam laughed.
'Easy, I'm only teasing, sorry. I should've realised you're not in the mood,' he said soothingly.
Sera found the two of you in your usual spot in the cafeteria.
'Luthial fase?' Sera asked you as she sat down and looked at you with a worried face.
'Wha-oh no,' you said grumbling. Suddenly, you felt a prickling feeling in your neck. You knew that feeling. You knew what it meant. And it hadn't been the first time today. You jerked your head around to see, and you could've sworn you saw a few strands of black and grey hair disappear just around the corner.
You turned your head back to Sera and Adam, who were looking utterly bewildered.
'Oh, I see,' Sera said suddenly, 'I know that expression. It's boys, isn't it?' She gave you a knowing look.
You nodded stiffly. Sera clicked her tongue.
'Ugh, men!' Adam said, and you couldn't help but laugh. 'Do you wanna talk about it?'
You considered it for a moment but realised that there was no way you could come up with an allegory for the situation you were in that seemed normal to humans.
'It's complicated,' you said, shrugging, poking your food, but not feeling like eating.
'Which one do I need to punch?' Sera said with a mouth full of food as she mimed a very bad sucker punch.
'All of them, honestly.' You laughed. 'But don't worry, things will be fine,' you added quickly when you saw their concerned faces.
'Good, because I already made plans for our double date,' Adam said cheerfully.
'You did?' Sera said, looking at him, surprised, 'You never told me.'
'Because I want to surprise you,' Adam said, taking her hand and looking at her sweetly. You looked at them smiling. They did make a great match, and you were really happy for them. 'Of course,' Adam began, turning to you, 'I will text you the location beforehand, so you know where to go, but only if you swear not to tell Sera,'
'I swear,' you said solemnly, putting one hand on your heart.
'No fair,' Sera said, faking a pout.
Coming home, the house was empty. Of course, you had hoped for someone to be there, but you also knew that, even if they hadn't been avoiding you, no one would be home yet for several hours. Although many of the boys had variable schedules, they always made sure you knew when and where they would be, in case you ever needed them.
Feeling frustrated but also slightly sad and lonely, you shuffled to your room. There you dropped your bag and looked around the room. Your messy research from the night before was still lying around the room. You sighed. That paper wasn't going to make itself. You straightened your back and decided to put your feelings aside and focus. There was work to do.
But you had only been studying for barely two hours when you suddenly heard the unmistakable sound of a gust of wind inside a room. Your ears perked up instantly, and your heart jumped with joy. You had barely realised that it should actually be way too early for any of them to come home when you heard some clanging noises in the kitchen.
You had already half gotten up out of enthusiasm when you froze for a second. The sounds were strange. Like stuff was being swept off counters, and furniture was being overturned. But it wasn't being done forcefully.
It was only known that you could hear the agonising sounds, moans, and groans from downstairs.
Your body went cold, and your heart seemed to turn into ice. Blindly, you dropped everything and sprinted out of the door as fast as you could, almost flying down the stairs.
You had barely reached the bottom when you not only noticed the mess that had been made, but also the unmistakable trail of blood that seemed to be smeared everywhere, leaving a trail that led out of sight towards the kitchen.
