Thought I’d bring reblog this post cos Doflamingo and Kaidou rule the roost in smack down talk of their charges (later in this post).

I’m pretty sure that that Aaaaaaaaaaaa is Momonosuke in Kaidou dragon form, being too scared to open his eyes as he flies Luffy to the roof, by breaking through a few floors of the castle. Kaidou blames this chick. ↓

Charlotte LinLin (and you can see the (Wa)aaaaaaa at the bottom of the pic there, probably still Momo. But, Big Mom of course wreaks havoc, but she’s kinda innocent this time. Here she is:

Along with the boy, Kid looking all Great Aunt Gertie in the profile shot, bottom right. But still standing, as @ninhaoma-ya pointed out, so Killer might have bested Hawkins (or Momo’s wayward journey may have. Look out Zoro, you’ve got competition). Momo’s dragon form is massive. You can see it at the back of the first frame.

And I can’t make a mangacap of Law without also showing his crew. I wonder if smiley-face is always smiling behind that mask?

Kaidou’s smack-talk parallels Doflamingo’s in laying the blame for their charges’ misfortune and the misfortune of those they’ve loved right at their feet, even…

… when they were the ones responsible for both limiting their happiness and more widely responsible for basically punitive death and general mayhem. Whole page, sorry, and it’s not from this chapter, I’m doing a Doff & Kaidou, Law & Yamato comparison.

Both Yamato and Law refute the words of their very unreliable caretakers, and I love them for it, cos this kind of mind-fuck, especially in Yamato’s case, 28 years of it, can do your head in. But, that’s why these two are both strong. So are Doflamingo and Kaidou of course, but the latter two really should hold a master course in how to neg folks. “Why are you dying such a pathetic death?”

Above, Kaidou undermining any of Yamato’s beliefs, which have brought him solace, and Yamato’s rebuttal.

Then, let’s get into the specifics of blame. Here’s Doflamingo trying to blame thirteen year old Law (and therefore trying to awaken that trauma) for the misery that Doflamingo has brought to Dressrosa, due to being a kid who hoped and trusted for a moment that maybe he could save Cora. Like, yeah, both Yamato and Law probably do carry their own guilt because it would be hard to not to and well, half the battle is won in unnerving your opponent, I guess. Or they’re just mean buggers, who obviously have an investment in their (former) charges.

But, Law refutes again, and Doflamingo’s acknowledgement of Law’s calmness shows that the smack talk is a psychological weapon (as noted earlier). That face in the middle frame above though. I wonder if he does delude himself that he is always right, and any wrong he has done, others have driven him to it.

And so here, the above, Yamato holds onto what is true, but that past tense is heartbreaking, then Kaidou stating that anyone who even begins to care about Yamato ends up dead, as if he didn’t have a major hand in both Yamato’s loneliness and in killing those folk for being kind to his son. And Ace. So we got Luffy and Ace parallels in here too.

Again, Law decides. Doflamingo may still physically beat him, but he doesn’t mentally win. Even if Law pays with his life, as he says. And it’s not to say that Law’s not frustrated (and in dire straits), but I don’t think he’d cross over, no matter how much Doflamingo taunted him.

And then the cap above and below parallel one another again. Like, Kaidou again deflecting any responsibility for Yamato’s isolation and captivity, and basically describing his son as a scuttling spider, rodent or marsupial, kept in the dark (chained in the dark).

Law (below), also having lived a life of darkness, and Cora and Ace and the Samurai being presented as blips on the the trajectory of their lives (anyone who shows you compassion dies). Ace and the Samurai and Cora being the foolish exceptions, not the rule, and possibly alive if not for Yamato and Law is the barbed thread being woven. Ace’s death of course, as far as we know, was not linked to Yamato.

Oof.
