Something interesting I noticed about the Snowbaz dynamic in this book is that while they are clearly in different places mentally, they are on the same on emotionally. I know it’s obvious because they are in a relationship, but it’s also shown through chapter 41. In chapter 61 the dual perspectives showed these completely different trains of thought - Simon thinking “what am I doing- I like it but wtf” and Baz’s of “I’m going to die kissing Simon Snow” etc etc we all have it memorized by now.

But chapter 41? Each of their perspectives work off of each other. For instance, Simon wonders if Baz can hear him “over everything” and then Baz makes sure Simon can hear him “over everything.” And later- Baz loves kissing Simon when he’s cold because Baz warms him and then Simon warms him back- “he gives it all back to me.” And then Simon thinks “I’d give him all I am. I’d give him all I was”

I know it seems that they are maybe even farther apart in this book- even Baz says their relationship is more hopeless now than when they were enemies. But that chapter and how Rainbow was able to write those parallels breaks my heart and heals it at the same time.

About Kamoda...

@lackadaisicalpottymouth and I talked a bit about Kamoda in the lights of chapter 41, where he doesn’t seem to mind the presence of his basketball teammate. (Which I find worrying if we remember what brought Kamoda’s first blackout during their field trip in chapter 15.)

I’m in the middle of writting something Kamoda-centric before the story begins and I came to ask myself some questions about our lovable big guy.

It has been said that Kamoda tends to be late to school (because he oversleeps and then gets caught in fights because he doesn’t pick the best shortcuts), but I was wondering if it always were the case. 

We know clubs activities in Japan, especially sports clubs, are time consuming and are highly considered. So, did Kamoda have to wake up early for pratice? Did they have morning assemblies? Was he able to get up earlier for this, knowing his love for the sport? 

But after the events that lead the disqualification of their club in the district tournament, I would imagine this worsen his “late” tendencies, especially if he falls victim to bad/silent treatment from his teammates. Anyone would prefer to shorten the time spent at school after this (i.e. avoidance, attendance rate dropping, being late grows regular, etc.)

So, would his excuse not be in fact a defence mecanism?
