In the context of how they got together it was LENGTHY

can’t see Wesker as someone who would have even thought of a relationship at all, it’d be inefficient and serve no purpose.

He didn’t even mean to be softer towards Chris. He just found a slow appreciation for his capability and the unity he brought to the team. Made his life easier. Then that appreciation turned into affection and it snowballed into something that irritated him as much as intrigued him.

Chris always thought Wesker looked good. Objectively of course. He never thought about being anything other than straight and so a little workplace crush never crossed his mind initially.

He felt got so red when Wesker would lean over him and his desk because he was nervous, it was his captain after all.

It became apparent to Chris that it was more than just admiration when he felt himself get hard because he was sparring with Wesker and he pinned him to the floor mat. His face dug into the mat and there was his Captain sitting on his torso, his arm restricting his head movement pressing it down, the other restraining his arms.

Wesker knew. It’d be hard not to know, Chris wasn’t as discreet as he thought it would be. He’d be lying if he didn’t often tease the man on purpose.

Chris confesses first. It’d not some grand-flowery moment, God knows Wesker would not have appreciated that. It happens after hours, Chris lingers around despite having finished all the paperwork he needs to do. Wesker knows it too. Efficient, it’s part of why he likes him so much. He wanders the bullpen for so long it becomes distracting so Wesker calls him into his office.

Chris comes out with the problem easily enough, and Wesker kind of just stares at him like he’s an idiot at first.

“I’m your superior, Chris.”

“That’s not a ‘no’, Sir.”

He never says no, pretty much just dismisses him and so when Chris arrives at his house to cook for him he can’t help but be amused.

The days turn into weeks and while it’s more of an open secret, Wesker stays adamant they stay professional at work. How else would he be able to focus if his handsome boyfriend was always lurking around his office?

He starts to fizzle out his contact with Umbrella. At first it isn’t on purpose. He’s just much busier. With Chris comes a different use of his free time that he’s not all that sure is constructive, but cares less and less. His passion for virology doesn’t diminish but his loyalty to Umbrella wavers when he remembers that it comes with losing Chris and the people Chris cares about. The team he has invested so much time in… he starts to draw away from it all.

Chris notices his change in demeanour but doesn’t push although he worries. After all, he doesn’t know much about Wesker and he doubted he would suddenly decide to tell him. It still hurt though.

The distance between them closes after Wesker makes it out of Umbrella, selling them out anonymously. It seems like a weight has been lifted off his shoulders and Chris assumes it’s because he’s happy to have one less threat, not knowing the true reason.

Wesker never opens up about Umbrella (possible something that comes back to bite him in the ass? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯), and he continues to be a good captain. One might say he even enjoys helping people, although he may enjoy documenting his achievements more than the help he actually does.

He is the one who invites Chris to move in with him. Apparently it’s logical as it would save money in transportation and money in separate locations when Chris practically lives in Wesker’s house already, preferring it to his apartment.

Chris brings with him a cat. Not that he had one before but he adopts a cat shortly before he moves in with Wesker. Wesker doesn’t get the chance to say no.

For a cat that he claims he never wanted and was a waste of time, energy and resources he certainly likes Thistle (named by Chris because he’s just as prickly and anti-social as his other owner)
