‘Bharatanatyam x BTS : Navarasa’

Classical Dancer ARMYs, are you ready for this!!

Bharatanatyam was an integral part of my life growing up, as was art and music. My ‘Bharatanatyam x BTS : Navarasa’ series is a merging of my past & present passions through art; one might even say one interest influenced the other.

In classical dance, ‘Navarasa’ refer to the Nine Expressions shown by humans. This subject felt like the perfect exercise for me to work on my character sketch skills & that's how the idea came to be. And here's the fun part: to celebrate 8 years of BTS, each one's theme will be a BTS song & member😍

Happy Wednesday Everyone!

I’m not going to lie I had a minor heart attack when I saw this. All I ask is this: Jared please do not go shirtless at camp. I’m serious. Some major fainting will happen. On the internet and in person. It’ll be bigger than Dion Boucicault’s The Octoroon with a boat exploding in it’s second ending. Like for reals hahaha.

Although this photo doesn’t compare to the dreams I’ve been having. That’s right people I had another ballet dream. This time I was doing various jumps across a stage. It’s a continuation of the routine I was dreaming about before. It’s honestly so weird I don’t even know what to think of it. It was full of color, structure, and, well, movement. Movement that fused grace and an uncomfortable sense of vulnerability.

I keep thinking it’s a reflection of my life at the moment. I also think it’s a past life. I’m not even kidding. I’ve been looking into this dream thing and I’ll let you know what I find. For now this past weeks conclusion is this: “Dance dreams are awesome. Although I don’t understand their meaning.”

All I know is that I am learning ballet because it feels right. Not just for my lymphatic system but intuitively. When I started teaching myself weird hip hop routines over a year 1/2 ago something clicked. I started something the universe had planned for me. And I was okay with it for the first time.

I didn’t fight it. I accepted it and kept going. And it’s led me to a light I didn’t think existed.
