“Android is actually derived from the Greek language, but the word itself is fairly modern,” she says as she perches on her desk, crossing one leg over the other. Sitting is something she’s still getting accustomed to--many androids, not needed to prioritize comfort, could stand for hours on end. Sitting was never really needed to rest her mechanical body like she would if she was human, but it pleased her to take this little luxury for herself.
“”Ander” is Greek for man, and oeides translates roughly to form,” she explains, watching Connor scan through her shelves of both paper books and digital files. “Combined into early 18th Century Latin translations, the word became androides, actually originally referring to automated Chess players.” A little mindlessly--what an oxymoron for an android, but she supposes that she had the freedom now--she adjusts a tablet on her desk.
