Mh. In my sincere opinion, the view that Hua Cheng might actually be horrifically ugly/scary or decaying. Needs to. Die a death.
For one thing...... that's not how Ghosts, especially Ghost Kings, work. Stop attributing western tropes to a Chinese story challenge, stop confusing fierce corpses and ghosts challenge.
Secondly... Xie Lian isn't a fool. Or blind. Love makes us blind does not work like that. It just doesn't. Hua Cheng being drop dead gorgeous is kinda important to their characterization, actually. Sure, it alone isn't enough to explain why Xie Lian suddenly feels sexual attraction, but we know Hua Cheng is fine as fuck, and Xie Lian notices hard.
Thirdly there is something that makes me viscerally recoil and feel sad about this concept but I cannot articulate why. Perhaps because his beautiful appearance contradicts the very view that he's a monster that everyone (including himself!) but Xie Lian has about him. Like his butterflies, he might be deadly, but he's actually cute and very pretty, etheral and enchanting.
Why... would you... want to disfigure him and make Xie Lian a stupid idiot just because... ? I say this as a teratopholiac, go read some terato if you want some monster action....

I literally put in a hold at my library purely because I didn't want to deal with finding the item with how bad I feel (they moved to a whole new building like 6 years ago and since I didn't actually live here 5 of those years, I'm still not used to it) and could pick it up when I was already out this morning before the library opened from the lockers. But now it has been over 24 hours and it still not ready for pickup? Like I can see on the catalog website that it is checked in???
