Enjoy the rich flavors of a traditional Black Forest cake in the form of rich cookie bars. These treats are a delicious dessert because they have the richness of cocoa, the sweetness of cherries, and the crunch of almonds.
Ingredients: 1 cup unsalted butter, melted. 1 cup granulated sugar. 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder. 2 large eggs. 2 teaspoons vanilla extract. 1/2 teaspoon salt. 1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour. 1/2 cup semisweet chocolate chips. 1/2 cup chopped dark chocolate. 1/2 cup chopped maraschino cherries, patted dry. 1/2 cup chopped toasted almonds. 1/4 cup cherry preserves.
Instructions: Warm the oven up to 175F 350C. Cover a 9x13-inch baking pan with parchment paper, leaving extra on the sides to make it easy to take off. Melt the butter and mix it with the sugar and cocoa powder in a large bowl. Whisk the ingredients together until the mixture is smooth. Add the eggs one at a time, making sure to mix well after each one. Add salt and vanilla extract and mix well. Only barely mix in the flour. Cut up dark chocolate, chocolate chips, cherries, and almonds, and then mix them all in. Place half of the batter in the baking pan that has been prepared. Put cherry preserves on top of the batter, and then carefully spread the rest of the batter over the preserves to cover them. If you stick a toothpick into the middle and it comes out with a few moist crumbs, the cake is done. Let the bars cool all the way down on a wire rack in the pan. When they are cool, use the extra parchment to lift them out and cut them into squares. Serve and have fun!
