How do you feel about coover Bennett? Personally I love him but I see that he’s a piece of shit at the same time.

INTERESTING… my fav bennett is always dickie for a multitude of reasons (i love rats) BUT there are many things i like about coover which are mainly his t-shirts that he wears. i also LOOOOVE that one scene in mags’ shop where raylan is having the worst life of his life and he gets into that truly pathetic fight with coover (which actually starts out super well up until raylan sees loretta and actively stops fighting back which is SOOOO MUCH TO TAKE IN WITH THE EYES. RAYLAN!!!!! THE ONE TIME YOU ARE WINNING IN A FISTFIGHT!!!!!!!) and everyone is just watching like  😬 until mags starts beating coover with a shovel or smth it’s so fucking stupid and funny i love that whole episode and i do respect coover for enabling that whole thing lmao

anyway i have a lot of thoughts abt the bennetts generally. i think they’re all tragic in their own ways and i LOVE the shakespearian-ness they add to the show… i think coover is cool for what he is which is The Stupid One of the three brothers, but i ALSO think he probably had the most potential for not being a total jackass if he’d been raised in different circumstances? he’s petty and mean and brutish but imo a lot of that is resentment for constantly having to vie for mags’ attention, which is ultimately his downfall, because it’s what led him to try to kill loretta.

i feel like the biggest vices of all three brothers is jealousy (of each other and others) and feelings of inferiority which are both brought around by the way they were raised by mags – she constantly has them fighting each other for scraps of her attention and is also always belittling them every chance she gets. like, dickie, for example, is basically RULED by his jealousy and it makes him spiteful and snooty and smug. he didn’t start hating raylan because raylan assaulted him when they were kids; they were playing a game of baseball and dickie went after raylan, and raylan defended himself, and dickie let that moment become the ruling moment in his life and built a whole mythology of revenge around it.

i know i just got completely off the track of your question here BUT i was cycling back to a point which i will cut to now: the reason i think coover has the most potential for not being a jackass despite being raised in that same environment is that one scene with loretta where he seems to kind of see her as a little sister and not really a point of rivalry? it was actually kinda nice?? even if loretta was there to drug him lol. of the three brothers, he actually seems the most willing to let her into their family. dickie was ready to literally kill her to get the fortune mags left behind, and doyle is… a jackass eternal. coover is ruled by his jealousy as much as the other two, but it’s a different kind of jealousy if that makes sense. both doyle and dickie want mags’ attention for very self-serving reasons – they want control of her empire, they want money – but coover’s desperation seems a little less malicious in the sense that he wants mags’ attention because he wants her love. it’s mostly, i think, because he doesn’t really have the capacity in his brain to actively want anything more than his mother’s love for himself, but that is just!!! really sad!!!!!!!

but yeah. i get where ur coming from! coover is garbage but he’s not as garbage as the other two. i’m a dickie stan 4 lyf (love when he sings) but coover is inch resting too.

Anybody who remembers what happened to Coover can see that that’s not just Dickie being true to his character but also some heavy foreshadowing.
