Named after Eve Reste and introduced around 1980, Malus 'Evereste' (crab apple) is a small, freely-flowering, deciduous tree. It is an excellent pollinator for other apples and is self-fertile. The tree is covered with fruit in the autumn and once these have been frosted they are popular with the birds.

I always think of weevil as the borzoi of the bug world; like just look at that snoot with the droop

"I always loved the blossoms,"

The crab apple tree is in the family Rosaceae, including the domesticated orchard apple, and wild apples. They require cross pollination to produce their fruit.

"They always got mistaken for cherry blossoms where I grew up.

The younger kids at the orphanage would get disappointed after realizing their fruit didn't taste as good as cherries either.

I still love them though, the city had them planted all along the sidewalks and parks; To the point that when it became blooming time, around early spring, the air would turn sweet no matter where you found yourself.

The blossoms would paint each and every street in shades of whites and pinks, lasting almost a full month. And when the flowers finally started fading the leaves would come in right after as if welcome in by a parade.

I remember climbing them when I was younger, they were always just tall enough not to feel too imposing, and the blooms welcomed you in like a warm hug.

Even though they're still around, it's one of the few things I can bring myself to get nostalgic about..."

I came home to find my dad making crab apple jelly.

The second he saw me he went off on a five minute lecture on how he made crab apple jelly.

I waited for him to finish, turned to my mom and said “this is why I don’t blame Tylenol” and both of them burst out laughing.

I have hit peak comedy and it’s all down hill from here.

I will never have such great comedic timing again.
