Craig Oldham was our guest

Yesterday we welcomed Craig Oldham to our studio. He gave us very important lesson about how design world works. Craig is a designer with long and rich experience. He’s got an awesome personality that you want to hear him talking without a break.

Craig has gave us a lesson about values that a designer should have. Designer needs to work as a team instead of racing with big ego. Very important thing that he said was that we as a designers don’t have to necessary like our work if it’s working. We might don’t like it but to others it might be best design they ever saw.

He told us about his experience in companies. Sometimes we might feel that we don’t enjoy it and we are doing something wrong, we don’t make our expectations. So we should not be afraid to look for other opportunities of working for other companies because it might be a great restart for our creativity and we will enjoy it again.

The talk about book that he designed was very interesting. It’s always great to hear from a creator how he made it, what was his idea and explanation how everything is working. The book is called “They Live” and it’s a replica from a movie. I’ve learnt how we can transfer a movie for a design and it was amazing. Thank You Craig for your time and huge lesson.

Craig Oldham lecture

Though graphics isn’t my main specialty, Craig Oldham’s lecture was really inspiring and a good view into art in general. It was refreshing to hear someone talking so frankly about the industry, encouraging our original ideas and not glossing over the industry having far too many old views and highbrow opinions in it. The way he regarded us was a nice change as well, treating us like fellow designers going into the industry.

It was a good chance to hear about someone in the industry, who doesn’t sugarcoat how he got there and admitting that it is tough and not in a nihilistic way. As I do struggle with deciding what I want to do, it was positive and encouraging hearing someone so enthusiastic for variety in the design industry.

Mondo Re-Release They Live Soundtrack And Behind-The-Scenes Book

This week Mondo are re-releasing the 1988 soundtrack to one of John Carpenter’s cheesier cult films, They Live by Carpenter and Alan Howarth. All wrapped in new artwork courtesy of Alan Hynes.

As for this week, we had a talk from Craig Oldham. I find that his talk was very inspiring and gives me motivation. I think it’s really great how he breaks the awkward atmosphere with humour and beautiful choice of words haha. I can say that he is very individualistic and isn’t afraid to speak out his mind and that is what I found very inspiring! An amazing talk overall.
