The Case of the Missing Clementine (Adventure Capitalist)

Gruffly, limp clenched cigarette butt in his jaw, lips pout-puffed.

There has certainly been a murder, of that no one is mistaken

And he, staring down at the screen of the climb

Held his wide-sway muscles in tow, hexed pecs perplexed.

“Such...disintegration.”

Smells wafted up in the howling wind over the open hatch

The corners of the windows had circled now

And a carved-hot caving of molten melting dripped into the air.

All below was darkness, then wetness and more darkness.

“Yes, didn’t you see that whole man,

Born at the stake,

But then re-stood!

Burned and fired he lived there,

til’ he drooped in old age

upon the stake.

No one saw where he fell,

off into the darkness that night,

on the giant peach of the very first cell;

in a great primordial ocean..

staring up at the sky,

and you can see the moon..

how wide

that swirling nighttime space..

rocking on swelling seas..

and you’re the smallest idea of life

that ever be.

Commentary on 73 Seconds

Okay, so I doubt anyone will really read these 4000 words of themes, symbolism, and other random notes I had about the story, but i wanted to give you guys the option if you were interested. Basically, I wrote a rambling essay that gives you some insight into the themes of 73S and some of my narrative choices and style. This is more about what I feel worked and things I either did deliberately or noticed upon rereading it. That being said, I could write a whole different essay on things I might approach differently in the future, and probably another 10k words on just the characterization of Barry, Len, and their relationship (or relationships with others, too). I’ll spare you all that, but you’re always welcome to drop an ask in my inbox about those things or about my writing - I am always so stoked to answer those things.

1: What is your name and does it mean anything?

My name is Allison. :) I was named after the song Allison by Elvis Costello. Im not sure if it means anything actually… 

2: How long have you known your best friend?

I’ve known my best friend since we were 4 because we played soccer together. Ive known her longer than Ive known my own brother (He was born a year later haha)

3: What position do you normally sleep in?

Umm on my side, generally my left with my legs and arms bent. I dont sleep on the pillow most of the time.

4: Were you a part of any “clique” in high school?

Since Im still in highschool this is subject to change but Im sort of in the nerdy computer group but also a little bit theater and a little bit athletic. Its kinda all over..

5: Who was your favorite teacher in high school and why?

Rn its my math teacher, and also the band teacher. They’re pretty awesome and very relaxed people. 

6: Do you wish to travel a lot?

I would love to travel around the world! It would be amazing!!!

7: Did you participate in any sports while in school?

I play soccer, used to play basketball and I might try track in the spring but Im not sure.

9: Have you ever given blood?

Im too light to donate. I dont even weigh 100 pounds and you have to be over 110 i believe. I wish I could though,

10: Do you like the way that you grew up?

Im pretty happy right now so yes. I wish we couldve done some other things but Im happy!!

11: Do you like your siblings? Why or why not?

Its sort of a love hate thing. Some days they are the best thing in the world but others I want to kill them! Either way I will defend them to the end of time and be devastated if anything bad happened to them.

12: How did you meet your best friend and why did you become friends?

My first best friend and I met because we were on the same soccer team and then we were in the same kindergarten class which was the coolest thing everr at age 5 haha! My other 3 I met in school through different classes we were in together.

13: Name one movie that made you cry.

Last one I watched that made me cry was The Fault in Our Stars

14: Do you prefer to read poetry, write poetry, or neither?

I prefer to write poetry than read it but Im not the best writer so it really depends on the day. Definitely do not like to read it.

15: Things about someone that you find attractive?

Hmmm, interested in the same things as me or willing to try them or listen to me talk about them. Umm, open-mindedness, funny, and smart. Those are about the most basic things.

16: What song are you currently listening to?

The song last played on my phone is Guys Like Potter from A Very Potter Musical.

17: Have you ever broken a bone? If so, how?

I once fractured my pinky in a basketball game when the ball hit it wrong. Other than that, nope.

18: A random memory from you childhood:

Hmm when I was in kindergarten, two of my friends and I would consistently spill our chocolate milk everyday. Not intentionally but it was everyday. One day we didnt spill it with like 5 minutes left of the period and I commented on that and moved my hand and ended up knocking the milk everywhere. We laughed for a really long time after that. It was really funny!

19: Where did you grow up?

Ive lived my entire life in the same house in NYC!

20: What was the last thing you watched on tv?

Leverage was on but I wasnt really watching, I was talking with my family/getting a massage on my shoulders haha.

21: Do you think you’d make a good parent?

Im not sure. Kids kind of scare me right now. I hope I will but who knows?

22: Would you like to meet any of your Tumblr friends in person?

I would love to meet any and all of my tumblr friends in person.

22: What was the last dream you remember having?

Oh last night in my dream my sister and i met Hannah Hart and Taylor Swift on the street and took pictures with each of them. It was really awesome!!

23: When is your birthday?

Its on the 4th of July!!

24: How many pillows do you sleep with?

I have 3 currently but i really only lean on them when Im on the computer. I normally dont put  my head on them to sleep.

25: Do you wear glasses? If so, how long have you been wearing glasses?

Yup! Well I wear contacts but I have glasses. Ive been wearing them since 5th grade! So like 6 years or something..

26: What color is your hair?

My hair is light brown!

27: Name 5 facts about your appearance:

Im short, My eyes are a brownish/hazel kind of color. My hair is very wavy/frizzy always. I almost always wear my hair in a side braid on my right side. Anndd, I have very small feet :/

28: What is your favorite soda?

I try my best not to drink soda but my favorite is Diet Pepsi

29: What is a strange talent that you have?

I can solve a Rubix cube :) I think thats strange…

30: How’s the weather right now?

Its a cool summer night rn

31: Why did one of your friendships end?

We just stopped talking.. We went to different schools and just kind of drifted apart.

32: Who do you miss right now?

I miss my best friend Maria. She’s been in Texas for the past 2 months and wont be  back to NYC until October :(

33: Why did your last relationship end?

I just didnt like him anymore and I couldnt be bothered to put the work into the relationship/

34: Are you still figuring out who you are?

Yes very much so!

35: Have you ever been admitted to a hospital? Why?

Nope! Never! 

36: What is your favorite restaurant?

Oh gosh, I dont know, probably Bella Luna because its convenient for school!

37: What is word that you always seem to spell wrong?

Definately, or is it definitaly, or definitely??? I just never know on the first try (But really its the last one)

38: Would ever adopt kids?

Its certainly a possibility if I cant conceive!  

39: What is your favorite kind of pizza?

Regular cheese pizza always!! Especially if its from New York!!!

40: What was your first thought when you woke up this morning?

I’m tired and do I have time to shower

41: When was the last time you got really really happy and why?

A few days ago when my baby cousin Michael was over, we were trying to get him to say different names. He can say Mary (my mom) really well and he was so close to saying Ally!! He is the most precious thing in my world and everything he does is so cute! I love him to death, so he makes me really happy!

42: What’s the strangest thing you’ve ever eaten?

nothing really, im not the most adventurous eater. I may or may not have had guinea pig once but Im not entirely sure because the people who feed it to me spoke entirely in spanish..

43: How do you start a conversation?

Generally with a Hey! Or something like that.

44: What’s a band you’ve been obsessed with lately?

Talkfine and Jim and the Povolos because they’re from Starkid which is my love!

45: Do you come from a family “of money?”

Not particularly but we do well enough to send 2 siblings to college and 2 others including myself to private school. We dont have enough to own like multiple houses or something like that.

46: Do you have a bucket list?

More so a bucket list of people I would like to meet before I die than things I want to do :)

47: What is your favorite series of books?

Harry Potter without a doubt. I’ve made so many friends and found so many wonderful things through that fandom, it will always hold a special place in my heart.

48: When was the last time you laughed so hard your stomach hurt?

Earlier today, my siblings and I were playing stoop ball which I suck at so we were laughing really hard at my “wonderful skills”. Also during soccer camp, one girl I know sprinted so hard that she literally fell like onto her face, it was the funniest thing in the world!

49: Where do you go when you’re sad?

I go to my room or a bathroom because I can lock myself in a bathroom

50: 5 random facts about yourself:

Okay umm, Ella Enchanted and Matilda are 2 books  I can reread over and over again and they never get old.

I have awful hand eye coordination even though I am relatively good at basketball.

My elbows can hyper extend.

Gosh this is hard, my background on my phone is of the Starkid takes Manhattan concert and meeting Joe Walker
