Shimmering Rutilated Quartz free form. Rutile forms in needles that often is included in Quartz. The Rutile can be golden in color like this piece, but also can be silver or red. The Rutile strands are called needles, and are extremely frigid when not included in a crystal. The dispersion of the Rutile, and the color/clarity of the Quartz play a big roll in the quality of a piece. When the Rutile is growing in interesting patterns, or spread out in a way that causes this shimmer effect, it can be more coveted than when it is densely included and you can’t see in-between the needles. As the Quartz becomes whiter or clearer in color as well as in clarity, the ability to see the strands also increases as does the rarity.
