Mammon and Greed
Mammon is the King of Greed, and he lives up to this in every area of his life. While he loves a good ‘get rich quick’ scam or pyramid scheme, any level of gambling or cryptocurrency, he has other interests, too.
He enjoys monopolizing people’s time and energy, as well, and a good target for this is usually Ozzie. He wants to keep him to himself and dislikes when they go out and Ozzie isn’t only with him. If he doesn’t have the person he’s with’s full attention he gets pouty, demanding, and grabby in an attempt to get what he wants.
Over his time in Hell, he has amassed an exceptionally large collection of everything. His manor is huge with sprawling land and just about every inch of it is covered with stuff. He has many different interests, and he procures what he can of them, even if he has to beg, borrow, and steal to get them.
Every other sin owes him favors and he racks them up at any time he possibly can in order to cheap out on things later. He has offered up Ozzie, Baal, and Beelzebub performing oral on people many times in order to get something he wanted without paying for it. Ozzie is the main one that complains about it, because the promises Mammon makes on his behalf usually come back to bite him in the ass (sometimes literally).
There is an entire section of his yard that is just cars that don’t run and can be super rusty. He refuses to part with any of it.
He owns sixteen carousel horses, but no carousel itself. He wants Ozzie to make him one, but Ozzie insists that he’d make it horny, so he has put a pin in the idea for now.
One of his collections is a very vast array of obscene and sexual gnomes. He loves them and has many rare ones.
Mammon bought an entire set of 12 paintings from a famous artist, and has not let them see the light of day because he doesn’t want people to touch his stuff.
In one room of his cluttered house, he has a large sum of Dum Dum wrappers, and Tootsie Roll Pop wrappers with the stars on them. He can’t part with those, either.
There are no rehab clinics that offer services to hoarders in the Greed Ring because he doesn’t want to be sent to one. He does, however, own quite a few rehab clinics and doctor’s offices.
Mammon has three casinos in Greed, two in Lust, and one in Gluttony. His main casino is called The Hanged Owl. On the walls hang an assorted collection of owl rope bracelets he has gotten from people summoning him.
While he runs many banks, even secretly, he also has an investment in cryptocurrency, as well as many casino/scratch card games that can be played on one’s phone.
Remus and Patton are hoarder boyfriends.
Patton hoards memories and sentimental things.
Remus hoards trash.
Patton: “Oh. Well... I guess we don’t really need this anymore” *goes to throw it away*
Remus: “GOOD HEAVENS GIVE IT TO ME!!! I’LL KEEP IT SAFE AMONG MY BANANA PEELS AND EMPTY DEODORANT TUBES!!!” *snatches*
They absolutely enable each other to the point the other four start planning an intervention.
thank you for coming to my TED talk
Okay so! Personal shit incoming!
The family drama that I started that was mentioned a while back? I didn’t actually start it. I just pushed it out of the “nothing ever happens” phase.
So what happened is that the woman who neglected and abused me? She lost my mother’s urn about as soon as I left. Buried it under her hoard and didn’t bother to tell me until recently when I asked about it.
Why did I not take the urn with me? I didn’t want to hurt her like she always hurt me, and I had made the assumption that she would have had the bare minimum of respect for the child she birthed and raised.
But she didn’t.
So I got family invovled, which is probably one of the major reasons why she never told me she lost the urn to begin with. Because god forbid her daughters know what they already knew, right?
The urn has been found today, thankfully undamaged, and as of tomorrow, it will be staying with one of my aunts until I can swing by and pick it up.
And so I’m sitting here thinking about a thing my partner taught me about wishing things upon ourselves and others, and how you gotta be careful with that because you never know what forces beyond you are listening. I’m thinking about how all my life (and before, from what family says) all that woman wanted was a reason to be angry that wasn’t her own fault. She wanted a reason to be angry about her home falling down around our ears without taking responsibility for it. She wanted a reason to be angry about why the only family she had that didn’t leave her were the ones that couldn’t without acknowledging she is the one who drove them away.
The last few months, she’s been going through a pretty steep cognitive decline, and we’re all pretty sure it’s dementia.
She finally has her reason to be angry for something she didn’t bring upon herself, and it’s gonna cost her everything.
I don’t know how I feel about it, but I think the closest thing I can to describe it is cheated. I wanted closure with her. I wanted to see her get better. I wanted to see her come out of this hell she’s made for herself, apologize and reconnect with her family. But now I’m probably not going to get that. None of us are probably going to get that.
But I also feel a little upset that I spent all this time angry with her, not knowing that some of it was probably dementia. And yeah, she was a raging self-centered cunt before I was even born, but how much of the last few years has it actually been her? How many of the last few months? Was she like that when I left? Was her losing the urn even her own fault or just the nature of the beast?
There’s going to be a lot in the coming months that I’m just going to have to let go of now, I guess.
We’ve at least got mom’s urn, though.
this is kind of a weird take but I really want the media, particularly television/streaming, to de-stigmatize being a hoarder
like it sounds crazy but I think if we used hoarding as a “quirky flaw” more, something that doesn’t say anything negative about the person, like in Parks and Rec and Broad City, people would feel less shame and judgement and less fear about asking for help cleaning
if we make being open, asking for help and clearing/organizing things to a functional level instead of just trashing everything accepted things in society, people who hoard will be less likely to isolate and make the problem worse
Mom: Your room is a mess. You really need to clean it
Me: *Starts to throw something away*
Mom: What? But it’s still good and was given by that guy.
Me: ?!?!?!!?!
