hi!! first off can i just say, as a teenage aspiring writer, your writing is so so sooo amazing and absolutely admirable? i hope i can write like you someday <3

i know lots of people have sent you asks complimenting your fic and going really in-depth, but i'm afraid mine is rather simple ;-;

i just love the familial aspect of devotions. i adore it. and yes i know that gets torn apart in 15-17 (which i still love by the way), but the whole Zaundads family + Viktor + the girls is so sweet it makes my heart.

to be completely honest, i'm somewhat starved for parental affection, and this fic just makes me feel so warm and happy for Viktor getting the love he so deserves. i love it so much. the middle chapters are my favorite; Viktor, Vi, and Paua's siblinghood, Vik and Jayce's developing friendship, and though Vander and Silco struggle, they still love each other. it just connects to me in a way no fic ever has. it feels like a band-aid.

uhhh sorry i kind of lost what I was trying to say...but i love devotions so very much!! thank you for writing it, and take your time with the next chapter. your well-being is more important than anything <3

Anon this means so much to me and also I feel seen because tbh the big draw of writing found family and especially certain kinds of parental affection / filial relationships etc is cus I starve for that too. It soothes my soul to write parents adoring their kiddos despite other flaws / issues / problems etc. not saying I’m writing perfect parents but I can’t bring myself to write certain kinds of lived experiences I’ve had.

Sil and Van both love Viktor (and their nieces and Ekko) so much 😭 Ned adores Ximena and Jayce — in all his enthusiastic rambunctious anxiety whirlwind.

Summary:

Being a father was already hard enough, but when Powder suddenly comes down with a strange, unexplainable illness, Vander finds himself more worried than ever. His fear for his daughter only becomes worse when Sevika insists she recognizes the purple glow of his youngest's eyes, and brings her straight to the one man who could truly strike fear into him.

(I.E. Several people have time-traveled, with various side effects. Vander is not one of those people, but like hell he's leaving his daughter alone with Silco, no matter how strangely soft the man is acting.)

Where Silco is one of the leaders of the Lanes and while more extreme is still able to work with Vander and Benzo; except for when he repeatedly tries to steal Powder adopt Powder

Vander: What do you have in your coat?

Silco: Nothing.

hi! i saw your “being one of vanders kids” hcs and i’m CRAVING angst and i couldn’t find anywhere if you’re taking requests, so i wanted to ask, what if reader got hurt like really badly, like cant move, blood comin out of nose n mouth, maybe ears too, just in a BAD shape, on one the days they don’t come back, and then a day passes, another,,, three days pass, Vander goes out looking for them and finds them (almost thinking their dead) and brings them back, you can figure it out from there and it’s okay if you don’t wanna write this!!! remember to take care of yourself 💕

~ You clutched your bag close pain radiating through your body. You promised Vander you'd stop going to Piltover but Powders supplies were running low and all the kids needed different things that the Lanes just didn't really have. You just wanted to help. You didn't snatch anything really valuable. A basic medic kit with some clean bandages for Vi. Some art supplies and new parts for Powder. A couple of new books for Claggor and various shiny trinkets left in the trash that reminded you of Mylo. You even found a store which sold some of that more expensive coffee Vander liked. And some sewing and fabric stuff that'd been thrown out for you. Bag heavy with your steals you decide it's time to head home.

~ But while jumping over rooftops and avoiding any Piltover Citizens an Enforcer saw you. Loud whistles went off and you were suddenly running for your life as various weapons meant for capture were thrown at you. Dodging their methods of capture heading back to the bridge you heard it before you felt it. You got shot. In the back.

~ Falling off the bridge and into the water below you black out half concious half not as you wash up in one of the fishermans alleys. Laying in the garbage bags of the alley after collapsing when you tried to stand the gunshot wound along with several scrapes and cuts covered your body. You stared up at the murky Zaunite sky and giggled from the pain as you closed your eyes trying to think of how to get out of this.

~ Right in the gutter where you belonged some Enforcer had said as they passed. But at least your bag was black and looked like the trash bags surrounding you so they didn't steal your score as evidence. Watching them leave you just bitterly laughed as tears streamed down your face. Heaven forbid you get nice things for you and your family.

~ Vander was suspicious when he saw your looting bag was gone and the kids swore they didn't know where you were but he trusted you. He really wanted to trust you at least. When you didn't show up that night for dinner he reasoned with himself that you could get yourself out of anything and he couldn't save you all the time. You were just doing a night job, a day job that went longer than it should have. He knew you were fine. Right?

~ The next morning as he took a smoke outside he was more than worried. You were never gone this long. Not in a long time. Vander was suspicious day one. Worried sick after day two. And ready to raise hell in the Lanes and Piltover on day three. No one fucked with his kids.

~ The Kids want to come and search for you with him. Vander understanding he may be bringing home a body as he grabs your blanket and some supplies insists they don't come and has Benzo watch his bar and them as he begins his search for you. You have a network outside the family but he's an old Zaunite and knows everyone. And no one, no matter how young is stupid enough to lie to him. Asking around he finds what he needs. Going to your usual contacts he begins the usual questioning trying to find out where you are but he gets nothing.

~ From what he understands this was a solo planned job on the spur of a moment whim. You hadn't given anyone anything about where you were going. You simply disappeared. As he was stopping about to take a long stress smoke a kid pulled on his shirt. Pausing he puts his pipe away and listens as they tell him about a person in a cloak who looked like the person he was looking for. It sounded like you alright. Giving them some coins for their trouble he goes to the Elevator that took everyone through the UnderCity. He wasn't liking where this was going.

~ Going to the bridge he has a heavy heart as he slowly crosses. He nods his head at the pictures and left behind momentos of all the fallen who'd fought for his war and lost. He remembers every name and face and he wished you were here but he knew you were in the city despite your promise. You didn't talk about them but he figured out who they were since you looked so much like them. Seeing a token had been left, something he'd seen you fiddling in the bar with he looks towards Piltover.

~ Vander sneaks into Grayson's office and although the woman hasn't seen you she admits she was given a case where a Zaunite had been desperate and jumped off the bridge when caught. They both know it's bullshit and that the person was pushed or shot but she wasn't there and that's the story their sticking too. Vander thanks her for her help and leaves to go to the fishing docks hoping you'll be there. Hoping your still alive.

~ He finds you covered in blood washed up into one of the Undercity fisher market alleys. And you look worse for wear. You'd been thrown off the bridge by a guard and had thankfully survived the impact. Hell he was impressed that you'd somehow held onto your stuff. That being said the man's pissed.

~ He's very gentle as he takes off your torn clothes leaving only your undergarments before wrapping you in the blanket. Holding you close making sure your warm he takes you home with you pressed to his chest as your steal hangs from his back.

~ The kids are jumping in excitment when they see Vander with you before everything goes quiet. Your shivering and mumbling incoherent things in his arms sick from the garbage and numb from the metal infection. He shoos them away and takes you to a backroom before locking the door. Pouring out the stuff you stole he finds the med kit and begins working with steady hands to help you.

~ First a bath to clean you than looking at all your wounds. As his hands go red with your blood he sucks in a deep breath and continues doing what he can to save you. The bullets out and the cuts and scrapes bandaged but the fever stays and as he quarantines you in your own room he can only pray you push through. It takes a week for your fever to break and a month for you to completely heal but otherwise your alright. You made it.

~ Vander let's you share your score. He wants you to have this before he scolds you in private. Violets mad that you risked your life for such trivial things but she's so relieved as she hugs you close with everyone and else joining in. You jokingly apologize for using up what was supposed to be her bandages and the kids all laugh despite the tenseness.

~ Sitting on the couch you pass out your goodies and everyone's happy to have been things even if their slightly damaged but their mostly glad your okay. As Powder holds her art supplies and looks through the gears you got her Claggor hugs his books close. Mylo stashes away the trinkets you stole and you smile seeing your little family happy with the things you got. They warn you never to scare them like that again and you promise you never will. Besides the bullet will probably keep you from ever being as sneaky as you once we're.

~ Vander can't bring himself to be angry or scold you when you come to him that night prepared for it. He just hugs you close that night and tells you never again. You agree and although your healed from the injuries you know it was dumb luck. You'll do anything for your family. So you made a promise to yourself and all of them. Never again. Your life wasn't worth a few things even if they deserved them.
