Buck was upset that he didn't realize Theo was his son by some soap opera-esque paternal sixth sense.
BUT
BUTT
HOWEVER
What about him being mostly unfazed by Theo's rambunctiousness? He just dove from one activity to the next, completely unbothered that the kid was a supercharged tsunami. There was an instant chemistry and connection there, subconsciously or not.
And when Buck saw the bodies of his friends being pulled out of the car, parental instinct took over immediately. He wasn't grieving his friends. He was immediately and intensely concerned about THEO. Of course, he'll grieve later (and did judging by the tissues next to him in the waiting room) but he shielded him from the sight of his parents' bodies, and immediately got him to the hospital.
Y'all, our Buckling is a DAD.
