Cryptid of the Day: Dakuwaqa

Description: The Dakuwaqa is a shark God of Fiji mythology, but Captain David Robbie claimed to have seen a 60ft shark with brown spots on its back. The crew then poured a libation into the sea to ease the monster, which was submerged. According to the crew, what they saw was the fabled fish God.

Dakuwaqa is the shark god from Fiji. Dakuwaqa is described as a human that can take the form of a large shark or any other creature he desires but his true form is that of a human with the upper half of a shark. Dakuwaqa is the Fijian god of the sea who is worshiped by fisherman asking him to keep them safe out at sea. Dakuwaqa is featured on the back the Fijian ten dollar gold coin along with an octopus which represents the fight he got into with a goddess who turned into an octopus to fight who Dakuwaqa while he was trying to conquer Kadavu Island Dakuwaqa ended up losing the fight due to the goddess pulling out all of his teeth causing him to promise not to conquer Kadavu Island.

Here’s the colored version of my mythological kaiju height chart.  This one features the four main protagonists and I plan on making more featuring my other mythological kaiju.  From left to right they are Dakuwaqa, White Jinn, Golem, and Sun Wukong Chao.

This is a WIP of a height chart featuring my protagonists of my Mythological Kaiju universe.  From left to right they are Dakuwaqa, White Jinn, Golem, and Sun Wukong Chao.

Decided to share some old art of two characters associated with my OC White Jinn.  The world they exist in is where mythological creatures from all over the world appear in the modern world in the form of Kaiju.  Most seek to destroy humanity but some appear to defend it.  Along with White Jinn these are two other Kaiju that defend humanity.  At the top is Golem, a mix of magic and cutting edge technology that was built to fight Kaiju and was given self awareness by White Jinn.  At the bottom is Dakuwaqa, a shopeshiting Fijian shark deity who gave up his ability to shape shift to take on a form powerful enough to take on any Kaiju threat.  I’m working on updated looks for both of these characters.
