The Left does not believe in or follow any laws or principles other than its own politics. There is no rule of law (and certainly not of the Constitution) that applies consistently at all times. Laws are just a means to a leftist end. If a law is momentarily suited to that end, it will be upheld and suddenly trumpeted as the great pillar of democracy and all that separates us from the beasts.

The next minute it will be trampled on and dismissed as systemic racism that will doom us all.

(Take the Senate, hailed as a bulwark of democracy when Democrats hold it, and as a legacy of slavery when Republicans take it back. Or the Supreme Court which goes from the only thing protecting us from tyranny to a corrupt institution that needs to be packed or abolished.)

That’s why the same leftist movement that has spent generations claiming that only fascists and madmen carry guns in public has now embraced the Second Amendment to defend a gunman who was shot while taking part in harassing federal law enforcement officers in Minneapolis.

Orwell’s ‘We have always been at war with Eastasia’ with its endlessly morphing party dogma is the defining political principle of a leftist party that can simultaneously deny the existence of women and champion feminism, that tells Jews they are Israel’s best friends and claims that Israel is committing genocide, that flips from delivering speeches surrounded by armed soldiers to playing revolutionaries depending on who is in power and who controls all the guns.

Don’t get the idea that the Left doesn’t believe in anything. It believes in a great many things. But those things don’t include the Constitution, the rule of the people, any laws that they don’t make and any limitations on their power to fundamentally transform America and the world.

Everything else is transactional and disposable.

Americans increasingly live under a corrupt tyranny that pretends to be a democracy, a one-party state that shamelessly gerrymanders and rigs elections, a bunch of radical thugs pretending to be civil rights warriors, informers playing reformers, criminals acting as if they are rebels, and tyrants playacting revolutionaries. In the areas under their control, there are many laws, but there are also no laws, because these places are nations of leftists, not laws.

The larger crisis in Minneapolis and the United States of America is not that radical mobs with the support of city and state governments are waging war in the streets against federal law enforcement. That’s only a symptom of the problem. The problem is that there are no laws, except what leftists want to do, and that means that there is no rule of law, only the rule of leftists.

Minnesota doesn’t just need some raids to bust illegal alien criminals, it needs liberating. The illegal alien criminals being harbored in sanctuary states and cities are just one element of a larger radical infestation seizing control of the country, mile by mile, and state by state.

America will either have the rule of law or the rule of leftists. That’s what this is about.

It’s hard to think of a more backward and warped phenomenon than the trial of former immigration minister Inger Støjberg, who tried to stop child marriage and the traffic of underage girls into the country during the Muslim migrant crisis. Or the resulting guilty verdict.

Inger Støjberg, a former Danish immigration minister and high-profile government figure during Europe’s 2015 migration crisis, was sentenced to 60 days in jail on Monday after an order she issued in 2016 was ruled illegal.

Støjberg had said that if a member of a married couple seeking asylum in Denmark was found to be under 18 years old — the legal age for marriage in Denmark — then the couple should be separated and housed in separate asylum centers.

Støjberg said at the time she was trying to protect “child brides” who may have been forced into marriage against their will before coming to Denmark.

The Endless Ages of Purim, by Daniel Greenfield

Purim has come and gone for this year. But this piece, by Daniel Greenfield is a brilliant meditation on the meaning of Purim.

The confrontation between Mordechai and Haman was a collision between two different conceptions of history. It was a contest for the Jewish soul. Mordechai defied Haman to remind the Jews, who had abandoned religion and nation for the new age of the Persian Empire, of the ugly and bloody truths under the hollow glories of that new age. In every age, the Jewish soul is nearly lost and then redeemed. The people seem on the verge of vanishing, but then survive. Mordechai understood that the future of the Jews did not depend on the Persian Empire. It depended on their willingness to remember who they were. And so he defied Haman and brought on a Holocaust. And at the end of it, the Jews fought for their survival. Purim, a holiday preceded by a fast kept by the men going into battle and their loved ones, is not about forgiving your enemies, progressive taxation or coming out of the closet. It is about survival. Not mere survival, but the skin of the teeth sense of how close we came, that moment of revelation which pulls back the curtains of the material world and reminds us of the impossibility of our survival under all the ordinary rules of the world that new ages are found on. It reminds us that behind the scenes of the brick and mortar, steel and steam world, is something else entirely. A force that breaks apart the towers of history, that saves us when we should have died, that has entrusted us with a mission. It reminds us of what the world is and reminds us of Itself and of what we are. When you stand on the edge of death, life is a revelation. It is not our deaths under the Egyptian sun, the blades and bullets of a thousand empires and kingdoms, or the ovens of Dachau that we are obsessed with. It is that moment of survival. The revelation that even amid the horrors of all that we have witnessed and the terrible things that we had to do to survive, we have risen out of the ground, watched the flesh cover our bones and stood alive again upon the earth. Every time we survive, we are reminded of the fragility of the world and of our enemies who wielding every power and trick, have failed to destroy us. Each time we rise, we transcend the world, in confronting our dead, we confront our immortality. It is not a purely joyous experience. The day of Purim is preceded by a day of fasting. Before the celebration comes a day of battle as the struggle to survive, the long decline into the abyss, the final desperate hours, suddenly give way to the upheaval of an impossible salvation. We remember the pain, the sense of the grave closing over us, the bodies lying everywhere, the certainty that we will be next. We accept the hopelessness of our situation and then we walk out of the grave and praising G-d, sit down to the feast.

In the cities, towns and villages-- the dead are remembered. Those who died with weapons in their hands and those who just died. Men, women and children. Drops of blood cast to the dust, reborn as flowers on lapels. Reborn as memory. All go to one place, said King Solomon, all that lives is of the dust, and all returns to the dust. There is nothing better than that a man should rejoice in his works. And so memorial day precedes the day of independence. That we rejoice in that which those who sleep in the dust have died to protect. The skyscrapers and the orchards, the sheep ranches and the highways, the schools and the synagogues. For they who drained the swamps and built the roads, who held guard over the air and built the cities, may not have lived to see their works. But we rejoice in their works for them. And a new generation rises to watch over their dust and tend the works that they have built. Until the day when He that counts the dust of Jacob shall count them all, and the land shall stir, and in the words of Daniel, they that sleep in dust shall arise, and then rejoice with us.

Racist Mayor: Chokwe Antar Lumumba

"I plan to make Jackson, Mississippi the most radical city on the planet," Chokwe Antar Lumumba told a cheering crowd while his supporters chanted, “Free the land!”

“By any means necessary,” Mayor Lumumba responded with RNA’s secessionist slogan, and concluded his speech with Karl Marx’s quote, “We have nothing to lose but our chains.”

But it would turn out that people in Jackson had plenty to lose.

A few months ago, the water went out in the city for a month after a winter storm wrecked the decaying infrastructure.

Mayor Lumumba blamed it on white people. “I do think that if we're being honest, it's a matter of race.”

Except that black Democrat mayors have run Jackson for the last 25 years. The city had been repeatedly warned that its water system was going bad, that it wasn’t being maintained, and that there was no money because residents weren’t paying their water bills. While Mayor Lumumba was chanting black power slogans and pushing socialist pipe dreams, the basic infrastructure of pipes that made life possible was coming apart on the land he claimed to love so much.

While people spent weeks hauling water in buckets to flush their toilets and boiling water when they did have it, the media turned on the outrage and blamed racism, but no one asked the socialist black nationalist mayor why he let it happen. Or why he kept promising radical change for years while pregnant women and children were told not to drink the water in Jackson.

The year before Mayor Lumumba took office, high lead levels became the new normal. Last year, the EPA was warning local residents that the water wasn’t safe to drink. But Lumumba kept busy denouncing the state flag, touting socialism, and rolling out an experimental welfare “guaranteed income” program mailing out thousand dollar checks to housing project residents.

Meanwhile the water treatment facilities were only being staffed at 50%.

Biden Tried to Send Pallets of Cash to the Taliban as Kabul Fell

On August 14, Secretary of State Blinken spoke with Afghanistan’s former president and promised that the Biden administration would provide a bulk shipment of dollars.

The next day Kabul fell.

On that same call, Afghanistan’s former leader had agreed to surrender power to the Taliban.

The Biden administration had effectively agreed to provide a massive infusion of cash to the Taliban. But the final deal fell through, the Afghan government fled, and the Taliban took Kabul.

The bulk shipment of dollars never did arrive.

Biden’s diplomats scrambled to evacuate from Kabul. Ajmal Ahmady, the governor of DAB, Afghanistan's central bank, already had a ticket and headed to the airport. He managed to get on a military plane.

Since then he's tweeted that he was warned that the Taliban had come looking for him.

The Taliban were hoping to get their hands on Afghanistan’s money, but much of it is in the United States. The most tangible part of Afghanistan’s assets, $1.3 billion in gold, is sitting in downtown Manhattan, a little bit south of Ground Zero, in the vaults of the Federal Reserve. . . .

The United States did plenty of dumb things in Afghanistan, but it kept the gold locked up in the basement vaults and $3.1 billion of DAB’s assets went into U.S. Treasury bills and bonds.

Ahmady estimates that $7 billion of DAB's assets are being held by the Federal Reserve which includes the gold, the bills and bonds, $300 million in cash, and another $2.4 billion in World Bank funds for aiding developing countries. There’s also $700 million at the Bank for International Settlements and another $1.3 billion in international accounts.

Those are likely being held in Turkey which is an Islamist dictatorship friendly to the Taliban.

The Taliban would like some or all of that money.

The problem is that while the Taliban expected to find vaults full of gold and cash, Afghanistan had been plugged into the international finance system in which access to cash depends on either great internal wealth or good international relations. The Taliban have neither.

To the extent that the Taliban have been behaving themselves, at least in Kabul, it’s because they want to lay claim to the stream of international wealth that used to flow into Afghanistan.

A week after Kabul fell, the International Monetary Fund was supposed to disburse $460 million in Special Drawing Rights to Afghanistan, but that, like all the other international funding mechanisms that the Taliban wanted to lay claim to, was blocked. While the Biden administration’s diplomats and national security people had made a complete hash of the withdrawal, the treasury people proved to be surprisingly on top of cutting off Taliban cash.

The Taliban still control border crossings and they’ll be able to take advantage of Chinese money, but that’s a long way from the cash they need to run any kind of functional country.

Paradoxically, we were the single biggest revenue source for the Taliban’s money machine.

Ibram X. Kendi’s Parents Worked to Give Him a Good Life. He Called Them Racists.

“Both of my parents emerged from poor families, one from Northern urban projects, one from Southern rural fields. Both framed their rise from poverty into the middle class in the 1980s as a climb up the ladder of education and hard work. As they climbed, they were inundated with racist talking points about black people refusing to climb, the ones who were irresponsibly strung out on heroin or crack, who enjoyed stealing and being criminally dependent on the hard-earned money of climbing Americans like them,” Kendi writes. “My parents, along with many others in the new Black middle class, consumed these ideas.”

What makes these ideas racist? Believing that you can get ahead through hard work is whiteness talking. And expecting good habits to lead to good outcomes is racist because it ignores the systemic racism that makes success impossible for black people. Kendi’s parents, Larry and Carol Rogers, an accountant and business analyst, not only bought into the middle class dream, but they worked hard, and they succeeded at giving him a comfortable childhood.

"My parents... fed me the mantra that education and hard work would uplift me, just as it had uplifted them," Kendi agonizingly recalls. And if nothing else, he partially disproved them, becoming enormously successful on the back of education, but a worthless one in identity politics, and on denying the value of hard work.

"My parents—even from within their racial consciousness—were susceptible to the racist idea that it was laziness that kept black people down," he recalls.

Kendi’s problem is laziness, but it’s a particularly white kind of laziness. How to Be an Antiracist, like most critical race theory texts, leans heavily on the personal narrative of his particularly uninteresting life. Kendi manufactures victimhood out of thin air, when his father waves to him on the basketball court, he suggests that might have gotten him lynched or killed by the police.

His grandmother dies after a struggle with Alzheimer’s. "A disease more prevalent among African Americans," Kendi notes. "There may be no more consequential white privilege than life itself." Black people have a 3.5 percent higher prevalence of Alzheimer’s than white people for a disease that is the fifth most common cause of death among American senior citizens.

When your claim to oppression is your grandmother’s Alzheimer’s, you’re low on material.
