I know I said Mack and Bobbi had the right to be wary/distrustful of Coulson, especially after it was revealed he was exhibiting the same symptoms as Garett before Garett completely lost it, but they were involved with the "real shield" long before they knew anything about Coulson & Tahiti, the alien visions, etc... so while a lot of Coulson's actions during the first part of s2 would've been questionable, especially without proper context, Bobbi and Mack were looking for problems from day one so it really doesn't justify their upcoming betrayal.
Bobbi seriously asks Hunter "will you ever trust me?" while she's in the process of lying to him while panning to continue lying to him indefinitely.
Mack in 2x11 is of course, grieving and reeling from the alien invasion on his mind, but he's indirectly implying Skye's life wasn't as important and worthy of saving. "Trip traded his life for hers"
?? None of them had any idea what would happen?
Criticizing Coulson's obsession with the alien writing is fair, but for most of the season, they were prioritizing other missions and leads until it became clear the alien writing was related to the obelisk, which Hydra's head, Whitehall, desperately wanted. Not to mention it being the original 0-8-4 that Peggy Carter herself thought to be too dangerous to fall into the wrong hands. Seems like a good reason to ensure it doesn't.
and their last few missions related to the obelisk/alien writing prior to Trip's death were a direct result of finding out Hydra iwas aiming to use the obelisk to obtain a weapon of mass destruction.
One could argue Coulson's judgement was clouded, sure, but the idea of not letting Hydra get their hands on what they believed to be an extinction level threat made perfect sense. Were they supposed to just ignore Hydra's plans to commit mass murder?
Mack was just angry from day one about anything having to do with aliens even though post the Chitauri attack on New York, it kind of came with the territory of being a shield agent.
Of course his experience with the alien tech that took over his mind (and killed Trip) brought all of his irritation to the surface, but most of what he said wasn't fair at all, and I'm usually someone in support of calling out authority figures lol.
I do like how these conflict scenes are written though, it feels very authentic and realistic, but Mack was definitely in the wrong here. he could've said any number of things during that scenes, but he chose the least valid arguments.
Everyone's also ignoring how Skye was kidnapped to that city, she wasn't ordered to go, nor did she choose to. Was her chasing after Raina a good idea? One could argue not, but regardless the obelisk would've transformed and it was Trip's choice to follow after her. Blaming Skye in that scenario is crazy, especially because most of the team had no reason to believe Skye would've been immune to the dangerous effects. Not to mention, Trip died because he broke the crystals, not because he was down there.
