top gun maverick — dagger squad as bandmates
disclaimer: english isn’t my first language so i’m sorry for any grammar mistakes!
dagger squad au where they’re teenagers in a highschool garage band cause i've got an itch and i miss my bandmates.
i knooow they perform at every single niche event around town as much as they can. talent show? they're there. a fund raiser event? best believe they're showing up on their a game, ready to raise hella money. mall event? they're already there before the time agreed upon.
rooster on keyboard/piano, he grew up around music and he's probably the only one in the band who can read sheet music fluently. he's hella stubborn about tempo and he complains about it with someone from the band weekly.
++ he's definitely the type of guy that can instantly play a song after one listen to it, no tutorial no nothing. he just starts pushing the keys and it all comes together; whenever a member of the band has a new song they like, they always go to rooster and asks him to play it for them. he always does.
hangman as that type of guitarist—yes, the ones who show off every chance they get. the ones who posts thirst traps with their guitar on tiktok. the ones who have a whole highlight on instagram dedicated to guitar covers (i'm guilty of this too though.)
he picks songs to perform from how hard the guitar solos difficulty level is (spoiler alert: he always picks the one with the hardest riff)
firm believer that hangman would also do backup vocals, especially when his voice matches the song.
coyote as the rhythm guitarist, has one of the best stage presences without even noticing. he's a nice guy. always says "good job dude" after every song, even if someone absolutely flopped.
i don't think coyote ever thought of being in a band, but he learnt to play guitar just to join the band and be part of his friends.
mickey is SO drums, he's always energetic and plays like his life depends on it. he breaks atleast one drumstick per gig.
he's the type of dude who finger drums in class, or even with his feet, like you will always see this man stimming to practice. has had many people even teachers tell him to shush up but it's not like he can control it !!! #sorryforstimming
the bassist curse has struck bob 100%.. not many people who watch their shows notice him since he's always in the back and quiet, but the truth is-nothing would get done without him. he helps everyone with their sound adjusments; amplifiers, wires, sets up mics, and tweaks settings like a wizard.
i also know theres a group of girls out there saying "hear me out!!' about bob, and their friends are saying either;
a. “wtf are u on about??"
or b. “i’m hearing u loud n clear!"
when hangman finds out about the growing bob fanbase, he acts like someone has personally shot him in the chest—literally. "what!? lil' ol' bob here? he's the one pullin' all the ladies? man you really casted a spell on em' didn't you!" he says, patting bobs back with that SIGNATURE grin of his.
phoenix on vocals, she's literally angelic, how could you resist?? she's got the main character factor, her voice is rough and commanding. enough to sway the attention of a crowd.
they would do covers of everything. from paramore, to foo fighters, to country music, everything.
after school, they go to somebodies garage, probably bobs. it's filled with mismatched rugs, stickers on every surface imaginable, posters stuck upon eachother, and a dim light.
and they practice n rehearse until phoenix's voice runs out, hangmans fingers are extra calloused, and somebodies already hungry. they almost always end the night with snacks or dinner to satisfy their hunger before going home to each of their houses.
phoenix always does the most with her vocal warmups.
one of them always insists on wearing sunglasses during their gigs, says it's "part of the band aesthetic." and somehow..... hangman and coyote are always first to show up in raybans... mysteriously..
at school, everyone knows about their band, those popular kids call them cringe in public but they secretly enjoy their band covers n admire them. (and at every show, atleast ten people from school show up. they always deny the fact that they saw it on a flyer.. always on sum 'woah you're performing? didn't know! guess i'll stick around.)
