Darius:

moths. he does not like them one bit. jumps when they come near him in summer. he is trying to get better at liking them because he loves and appreciates all of God’s creatures but why are they hairy like that?

Brooklynn:

birds. she does not like it when they fly at her face. she jumps every time (this reminds me of the time i had a maths teacher who was afraid of birds and one maths class a bird flew into the classroom through the window and she had no idea what to do so she just left lmao 💀)

also being without her phone. post nublar it becomes less of an ’omg what if something vlog worthy happens and i can’t film it?’ and more of a ’what if something bad happens to me and i can’t tell the people i love goodbye and how much they mean to me and send them contingency plans for my death?’ (i have this exact anxiety lol)

Yaz:

clowns. they creep her out bad. Sammy once took her on a date to the circus cos she thought it would be fun (she did not know Yaz was scared of clowns) and Yaz spent most of the time clutching Sammy’s hand with terror

also slightly scared of dogs. one jumped up at her as a kid and it really scared her, and she’s always been wary of them to this day

Sammy:

very very specifically, foods sticking to her mouth. stuff like peanut butter and toffees getting caught in her mouth or teeth and making it difficult for her to talk or even breathe makes her choked up. there is a word specifically for the fear of peanut butter sticking to the roof of someone’s mouth — arachibutyrophobia

Kenji:

going to the dentist

most insects

mice

the ocean

halloween decorations

being alone (this one isn’t lighthearted at all when you consider his trauma)

a lot more things that are weirdly specific

as well as all the canon irrational fears he has, he is very scared of lifts elevators. he does not want to be in one if it breaks. if he has the option, he’ll take the stairs. (side note but i was actually stuck in a lift once when i was a kid lol. i remember watching a lot of peppa pig on someone’s phone to keep me calm)

Roxie:

also really doesnt like clowns

forests at night, and any nature based liminal spaces really set her on edge. city girl Roxie my beloved

Dave:

mice for some reason

small rodents in general freak him out a little for some reason. idk why, i just greatly enjoy the comedy of a six foot man screaming because something the size of his thumb ran across the floor near him

Mae:

reeeeeaaaalllly doesn’t like slugs. they are very very very very slimy and it makes her skin crawl. she’s fascinated by them of course, just. at a distance

Ronnie:

mascots. they terrify her, with their unmoving races and ginormous anthropomorphic bodies. she will NAWT hug those things

Handler:

she’s afraid of nothing. but also everything. if that makes sense

she used to be really scared of tiny dogs as a child but now she’s just extremely deadpan about anything. if she has any fears no one knows what they are

Soyona:

not afraid so much of anything, but deeply disgusted by a lot of things. a lot of things disgust her. cats. dogs. people. blue haired women with one arm

my jurassic headcanons in the spirit of pride:

claire dearing: THEE trans woman bisexual who would never use either of those words comfortably. she is a “transsexual who likes people”. she’d be non-binary if the world was kinder to trans women but she’s 38 and doesn’t have time to investigate that. 95% woman/enby preference, 5% men because she doesn’t think men have rich inner lives generally #misandry. high-key demi-romantic and exclusively falls for whoever is her best friend at the moment. monogamous-leaning but could get involved with closed polyamory (throuples and shit).

owen grady: cis and het and allo but he did experiment in the navy. wasn’t really into any of it. bicurious where barry is involved however. claire keeps asking to watch. honestly probably more monogamous than claire.

maisie lockwood: nonbinary lesbian who evolves into a butch during her gender journey. she’s the kind of baby lesbian who you’d actually be more surprised if she wasn’t gay. she’s nonbinary but her gender is lesbian not any fancy label. gets gender envy from girls who pass as guys. a #realass lesbian yearner who makes those “I need a gf” posts

zia rodriguez: butch lesbian. she is not a “masc” she is a BUTCH. she is the quintessential queer not gay leftist transfeminist. proudly identifies as a dyke. she’s got something trans masc going on but butch is her gender of choice. open to poly or monogamy in a “whatever happens, happens” way.

kayla watts: masc-androgynous bisexual. has something genderqueer going on but she’s not concerned about labels. she’s just gonna do it. preference for women and gender diverse individuals but she loves love. poly leaning

franklin webb: that one very specific type of cis gay who’s nerdy and middle class with a mostly accepting family. he’s what we in the business call a “steven universe” instead of “ketamine” gay. very monogamous. not asexual or aromantic, he just gets nervous and awkward about it.

henry wu: something between gay and aromantic but he has evil science to do so he’s not really concerned with any of that. if he did introspection he’d realize he’s agender but he’s not gonna do that. probably asexual spectrum. but he’s really not thinking about any of this right now.

alan grant: old ass binary trans man who considers himself heterosexual despite having homosexual inclinations towards ian. do not ask him what a neopronoun or polyamory is because he straight up doesn’t know. he’s monogamous leaning but would be open to adding ian to the throuple

ellie sattler: old ass binary trans woman bisexual who prefers men. she’s far more hip about what the Youngins are doing in the queer community but doesn’t really consider a lot of it for herself. like alan in terms of monogamy

ian malcolm: nonbinary bisexual but he’s not very open about the nonbinary part. very open to having a mr malcolm but it just didn’t happen due gay marriage not being legal. leans towards polyamory which is why his monogamous marriages flopped

sarah harding: cis bisexual. very causal about it. doesn’t really see herself as “queer” the political class. she just happens to date women and men. pretty normie like alan but she’s a very pleasant queer elder. never considered polyamory as an option but she’s down asf when ian suggests it.

darius bowman: aromantic bisexual who’s nonbinary but not dysphoric enough to really do anything about it. like he’s not a cis man and doesn’t relate to them much but he’s not that bothered about being gendered and existing like he is. if he was born a girl he’d be the same way. he’s strictly aromantic and is only interested in qpr’s under the terms that it’s with another aromantic who won’t make it weird.

kenji kon: bisexual who went through the trans med -> nonbinary trans masc pipeline. I’m so sorry to say this but he liked kalvin garrah content. very dysphoric and (mentally) hated on non-binary people because he sucked at dealing with it. only to realize post-jwcc it was internalized transphobia about not being an “acceptable” trans man. never acted on it to others, only thought it. hasn’t really considered polyamory due to the whole trans thing.

sammy gutierrez: trans feminine lesbian. has xenogender and neopronoun tendencies in intimate circles but prefers strangers gendering her as female. pretty much no internalized queerphobia and is very open to exploring all of these aspects of herself. mostly monogamous but open to negotiated non-monogamy with her forever primary partner, yaz. mostly in the sense of letting brooklynn hang out in the relationship every few months #yasammlynn nation

yasmina fadoula: demi-girl bisexual with fem pref. identifies more with being queer than being a woman, but like darius, not super dysphoric and won’t really do anything about it. maybe she has she/they in bio. same as sammy on monogamy but despite her attraction to men, she’s not really interested in ever inviting them into the ‘cule. she loves it being a girls club.

brooklynn lastname: trans fem butch lesbian. was far more feminine in her youth due to dysphoria but began to grow into her non-conformity post-jwcc. she’s like 50% girl 50% it/xe queer lesbian Thing which fuels her butch lesbian identity. had comphet with kenji. like many trans girls, she internalized the expectation that women HAVE to like men to be women. but soyona (and yasammy) had her like oh nah this lesbian shit is fire. being a masculine woman who loves women (and who is swooned over by femmes) is far more affirming than dating a man ever was. very polyamorous which is another reason kenlynn never would’ve worked.

ben pincus: gay trans man with non-binary tendencies he’s often dysphoric on acting on. at most has comphet about “real men like women” but is not truly interested anyone who isn’t under the achilliean umbrella.

gia lastname: trans girl lesbian femme. had some reservations about her lesbianism (women HAVE to like men) but it’s just not for her. she loves when women are masculine like butches but men do nothing for her. pretty binary trans girl. wasn’t sure about polyamory at first but brooklynn introduced her to lesbian polycules and she’s thriving.

soyona santos: trans woman lesbian. she’s also part of the transsexual generation and is mildly trans med about Having The Surgery. but she also loves butches who don’t transition. it’s very strange. dating her is a cognitohazard. the first trans woman who is a trans masculine chaser? I’m only partially kidding.

the handler: trans androgynous agender lesbian but she’s not using the agender OR trans label for herself. she’d be butch if she wasn’t evil. hates men. wouldn’t be friends with one let alone date one. likes fems. but she has a weird lesbian yaoi thing going on with brooklynn.

mae turner: fem lesbian with asexual tendencies. she’s alloromantic and does desire a girlfriend but she’s kinda aspec too. maybe demi-sexual. might be a femme (also as a gender identity) instead of fem but she has research to do so she doesn’t have time to join a subculture rn.

roxie lastname: cis bisexual with fem pref. wants mae’s cookie so bad.

dave lastname: mostly aroace (maybe a little gay) but everyone thinks he’s very gay for some reason. he doesn’t really mind but he does worry about all the men he has to gently let down. he’s very kind about it to not hurt their feelings.

ronnie lastname: butch lesbian. your classic gay elder. they call her auntcle ronnie.
