Let’s see... You know what? Let’s talk about Buffy.

So in this story, behind the scenes (in the alternate universe or dimension where Dawn came from), time is moving very differently. In the span of the several months that Dawn is living in St. Louis with Anita et al., only a week passes back on the Hellmouth for Buffy and the others. The reason Buffy keeps appearing in Dawn’s dreams is that with Willow’s help, she’s trying to break through into Dawn’s universe to bring her home.

Which, Giles has pointed out to Buffy three times before she threatened to break his glasses, is a one-way trip. Because while Buffy might be able to use the residual energy from Glory’s spell to make it through, only Dawn’s blood can be used to send someone back.

Some one.

Buffy doesn’t care. She’s not leaving her sister alone in a strange, dangerous world. Buffy survived a Hellmouth. She survived hell. She can make it through the dangerous world of Anita Blake’s St. Louis, alone, if it means Dawn can go home and be safe.

Buffy keeps trying. It takes her a month.

For Dawn, thirteen years go by.
