Are there any specific rules for saratoan colors? I have the urge to make a rainbow one but I doubt they'd have organized rainbow-y colors
Keep in mind that I am okay with people drawing their characters as Saratoans or one off randoms, but still feel a little iffy about people making characters - sorry, a little leery of things veering into open/closed/whatever species territory. I can't stop people obviously, but people can't respect boundaries they don't know about, so I mention it.
The colors wouldn't likely be organized into a rainbow, no. The number of significantly different colors in their skin is an expression of how much magic they naturally have in their bodies. The normal range is 1 to 3 distinct hues or shades, sometimes 4 and rarely 5 pops up naturally at random (not counting ear and palm colors). As the number increases past that point they have increasingly more and more magic in their body, which pretty much exclusively has negative effects since magic within the body has no effect on a person's ability to use it externally as in spellwriting.
High color count is associated with a now-abandoned royalty system. Like their version of the habsburg chin. Their current elected prime minister DayDrift is a descendant of that system. Any other extreme high color count Saratoan is DayDrift's cousin, guaranteed.
The magic present in his skin destroyed a lot of the melanin in his hair, his skin is sensitive and prone to rashes, and he's developed supernumerary teeth since their teeth are another trait their bodies use magic to develop. He also has a tendency to hyperventilate if the magic in an area is a bit on the lower side. But on the other hand his people think he looks regal which helped him get elected.
