APH/Captain America Crossover Headcanon
In Hetaliaverse I headcanon that America was a personal friend (and definitely a huge fan) of Einstein and worked closely with President Roosevelt. America was deeply frightened at the thought of atomic missile warfare and could foresee (because many countries can see vaguely into their countrys future using the state of current affairs as a map) that it would lead only to terrible events. He could understand the necessity of having a bigger stick, so to speak, than the ‘enemy’ but he held deep reservations about the need to use them. He knew he would end up in the war eventually, again, so he started planning ways to circumvent the need to use any bombs at all. As Project Manhattan developed America was left out of the plans by his government (the price to pay, he supposes, for acting like an idiot when he actually isnt).
Heres where it goes all AU Crossover on me.
After he officially joined World War II, his attention was split between Germany and Japan. His Boss had him move back and forth between the two fronts constantly. Then he heard about Dr Erskine and rumors of a super soldier project among his Cabinet members and White House staff. But he would find, after some unauthorized research, that at the time Erskines serum was not entirely stable, and according to Erskines initial notes, depended too much on cellular manipulation to enhance the body. It apparently did nothing to enhance or mitigate a persons emotions or change their state of mind. America also found out that it was tested with bad results in Germany before Erskine defected, proving this assessment. It seemed the doctor was missing something essential that biochemistry just couldnt create. America had an idea.
America is perfectly capable of thwarting any military or White House supervision by teleporting across the US at will. (Something his personal staff hates even to this day. But he claims its like a sneeze, and he cant help it, no really, thats how it works! Hes had to drive from California to DC many times over the years! Dont worry, he’ll call back as soon as he can, dude.)
He did lots of teleporting to snoop around in Erskine’s files, looking over military plans, breaking into Erskines quarters to read his most private research, and in the process discovered a couple little secrets the government was keeping from him that would soon be called the SSR and actual atomic bombs being created (like Howard Starks dangerous inventions werent enough to keep him up at night). He approached Dr Erskine as soon as he could.
The Serum was originally blue. But it turns out that separating the components of Americas blood and then taking the plasma and doing something sciencey to it (Dr Erskine was very excited about this part) produced a shining yellow fluid, like liquid sunshine. This, America told him, would make it work. This was a millileter of millions of peoples’ might and heart and willpower and dreams. But America cautioned the doctor - if the Serum enhanced a persons biology before, this Serum would also intensify preexisting emotions and notions in the mind. It should only be given to someone whose mind is strong, whose heart is good, whose will is unbreakable, and whose dream is liberation from tyrany. The doctor wholeheartedly agreed. With Americas essence the Serum turned green.
It took a while for the US Military to take Captain America seriously (and England and France for that matter, who had no idea what America did) but soon the US was fighting two wars, the one against the Axis Powers and the one against HYDRA. One war was fought with a famous Superhero in the spotlight on the front lines in Europe, while Japan faced a determined not-so-famous America on the islands and the seas of the Pacific. America was sure they’d win before any massive explosives were needed.
And then Captain America disappeared. Alfred helped finish off the war in Europe. Germany himself sought him out and surrendered against his Boss’s wishes because his country was now dangerously close to dying. Italy had already removed themselves from the fight. And the war in the Pacific ended with two bombs. World War II was done.
Howard Stark was not the only one who went looking for Steve Rogers long after everyone else stopped. Alfred looked whenever he could (besides Post WW2 responsibilities America was quickly drafted into heading the fight in Vietnam in Captain Americas absence, something he was very reluctant to do) and Canada helped when he could as well.
America knew Rogers was most likely not dead. He could sense it. But he couldnt find him. It wasnt until, in the middle of a ferocious fight in the darkest time of night in the wet jungles of Vietnam that he had a vision…
“…of a future where the world is changed forever by handsome British aliens. One of them is righteous but his bro has major issues, and the rest of them were these ugly jackalpeople in gold armor and these giant centipede whales flying around New York City -”
“- but dont worry, cuz I also saw the Green Giant - ”
“Green Giant!? Alfred -!”
“ - and a red and gold robot and a lady that could kick even my a- ”
“There is no way any of this is going to happen.”
“- annnnnnd we’re not the only the ones in the universe, Canada! Tony is proof! And theyre coming here, but theyre not all friendly. And thats why I am excited to tell you, my good friend - my pal - my bruthuh, that Captain America will be back.”
“I couldn’t tell if that was a good thing, cuz I got the feeling that it kinda sucks, but at least he won’t be lost anymore.”
“This sounds like your Moon vision again! Which, by the way, have I told you yet that yelling like a lunatic that youre flying to the moon with grenades in your hands the middle of battle in maple-knows-where-Germany was the stupidest thing Ive seen you do yet?”
“And I dont see an American flag on the moon yet!”
“Oh, it’ll happen, bro. It’ll happen. We only just started that little project…”
