"Why do you follow orders, when you can literaly pick them up and throw them out a buletproff window?"*
"I'd say the same about you, witch girl." Kon answered with a rye, smile.
But then he went on packing.
The JL was sending Kon off planet, for diplomatic relations.
A human alien hybrid. That's all Kon was to them. Not that Kon'd just found out about his hybrid status. Or that his human DNA was from Luther. Who, fresh out of jail is now somehow part of the JL?
"Portals do it for me, but I see your point." I walk over a take yet another jump suit off this hands.
My overt actions are a distraction. Under his backpack, a portal slowly and steadily siphon his clothes.
"The thing is, I asked first." I say up in his face. As his clothes are teleported away.
He didn't quite move, but I could feel his attention, his affection on me, as a physical caress.
My concentration falters. I just about manage to steady the Portal before it swallows the backpack whole.
"So then," Kon said, his attention now solely on me. "Who will answer first?"
"Eep!" I nodded like a dummy. We had both worked with others and other teams, but from the moment Kon and I had been partnered on the Titans, we'd known our pairing was something special.
My eyes widened at his closeness as he gazed down at me, the teammate who'd taken my overtures as harmless flirting, now leaned forward his linebacker body towering over mine.
There was a moment when I saw Damien at the space station again after he left the Titans to join the bad family. I thought 'this is where I belong." But the feeling didn't last. And it wasn't real. I am sure of that now at this, very moment, then I have ever been. It was just my body and mind returning to the one thing I'd know more than anything else.
Sometimes I dream about The Titans. About Damian. They're so vivid that I wake up confused that I'm not with him. And I feel this ache...not because I want Damian back, but because it was the place where i found my family. Where every little thing I did and said could be life or death for me or my loved ones. I think sometimes I miss the camaraderie - the way a child feels nostalgic about the simple times —but not enough to want to relive it.
There is a reason I am no longer an active member. My mission now is to connect on that one on one level with others like me. Heal and intern, be healed.
Connor has a lot more in common with me, then he does with Lex Luthor, or even Kent, all that he may share their blood.
By his closeness and the intensity with which he holds my gaze, I wonder if Connor is finally ready to have a Honest talk. About how we are more than ex-teammates. How our relationship has progressed from acquaintances to friends. And from the heat of his gaze, a lot more than that.
I close the portal. No longer siphoning his clothes back to their original place.
Raven swallowed, looked up at the gorgeous blues expectedly. At the moment, Kon was very much staring her in the face. The ball is in his court. Will he admit to knowing what I have been trying to convey, or will he again pass it off as a joke between friends?
"Sometimes I feel like you can look right into my soul." Kon said, resting his forehead on mine. "Like you can read my thoughts."
I shook my head in denial.
His intense gaze was a laserbeam to her heart. She could feel the heat of his body emanating from him, making her feel dizzy and disorientated. She tried to speak, but suddenly her throat was dry and no words would come out.
Kon's body pressing up against hers as he whispered, all but kissing her ear, "You know we shouldn't be doing this, right?"
Raven bit her bottom lip and rejected the assertion.
"I got a sense of the emotion behind the thought." I answer his previous question, ignoring his statement about us, not belonging together.
Our breaths mingled as we confessed to each other.
Time stopped, they stood frozen as if Raven conjured a pocket dimension, lost in a little world of their own. A place where nothing else mattered except for each other. Packing forgotten. The mission forgotten. It got to a point where Raven wanted to reach out through their skin contact and read his every thought.
Connors emotions slammed into her like a tidal wave. His thoughts weren't coherent, but his feeling and intent was strong enough to decipher easily.
He wanted her, Connor wanted her as much as Raven wanted him.
Raven cupper his cheeks in her palms, creating a space where she dropped her shield and let her thoughts and emotions flow, unguarded, responding to his avalanche of emotion and desire.
The public announcement system played. A screeching sound announcing takeoff in T -10 minutes.
Raven ignored it as she would a buzzing fly. Such announcements had nothing to do with her and Connor.
Raven arched her body to meet his in mid-air as Conners mouth came down and claimed hers.
The kiss was hard and fast. Full of promise and desires left exposed.
"Wait for me" he said when they finally parted for breath. His hands roaming over her with a desperate hunger.
She nodded, trembling with need.
He had to go. With the sooner Conner left the quicker, he would be back. Pressed against each other, the craving was so powerful, almost felt wrong to think about parting.
Ravan was about to let herself go completely, to give in to their desires when The PA system obnoxiously Blared again.
Conner kissed nose, looked into her eyes, conveying everything he didn't have time to say.
Raven moved back a step, she dropped her hands from his cheeks to his shoulders till only their fingers were interlinked.
She teleported them to the takeoff landing, half unpacked bag and all.
This time, her Portal put back everything, all the gear it had previously removed. And she added one more item. Something of her for him to have on his journey.
Connor was probably having the same thought because he removed his Hoodie. Untangle their fingers for only just a moment while he draped it over her shoulders. He caught her palm in his, keeping his eyes on her, Kon kissed her knuckles.
Raven, with her empathy could feel attention on her. On them.
Connor, with his super hearing and sensitivity, probably also knew about their unwanted attention.
On a public platform, just before mission takeoff. The area was crowded. Staff preparing for launch. With families, friends, wishing luck to those taking part in the mission along with Connor. Office and so many people we admire.
"Let's not listen to anyone, but ourselves" she said. I'll wait for you Raven's eyes I told Conner.
Raven's reaction was once again not what Conner'd expected. With one last, lingering look, he nodded.
Yeah, he though, hitching his gear over his shoulder. Let's only listed to each other from now on.
Caring what others thought had forced him to keep his distance from Raven.
Listening to others now was separating him from her.
Ignoring, curious, hostile, shocked looks, Connor reported to the team leader. Damien's brother and Connor's friend, Tim Drake.
Kissing her had changed everything Conner though, half listening as Tim in his bid to be through continued to recap everything they had already gone over more than a dozen times.
I had a strong suspicion Rae and he's always share a special bond . . and for the moment, yeah, it was enough to know.
