Summary:

All his life Dib has wanted to capture Zim and gain the victory and fame he always wanted. When his wish comes true however, not everything falls so comfortably into place.

Chapter 16: Warrior

Every corridor, room and hall flashed red with alarms. Taking the elevator wasn't an option when he had disabled it, leaving the multiple stairwells as the only means to get around. But he knew all the shortcuts, many of which were now open, and he doubted even the scientists knew every shortcut when so many areas were strictly prohibited.

He paused just long enough to check his watch. Seven minutes and twenty seconds...

He hurried down the next two levels, head pounding, ears ringing with real and phantom sounds. When he heard a team of men clatter towards him in the dark he threw another smoke grenade in their general direction before blindly flying down a corridor, through a door and into the next atrium while the shouting, bickering men were still trying to orientate themselves in the smoke and dark. He was almost unsure as to where he had ended up, his mind desperately recalling the blueprints he had seen on his laptop.

The fire alarm bells were ringing like the old brass bells in school. He double backed on himself, his memory a ghost he couldn't pin down.

Right! Straight down! Left, I'm pretty sure it's left from here...

The alarms and general disorientation made him second guess his memory, a dangerous thing to do when he was on a countdown. Carlson and his men would be torn between trying to stop the animals trying to get in from below, the hazard of the boiler, and the chaos in-between, but if he spread his men out, cut down the animals, restored power...

Andrew Weathers Ensemble — Fuck Everybody, You Can Do Anything [10 Year Anniversary] (Debacle)

Perpetual rambler Andrew Weathers seeks to bind our planet to the cosmos. He realized this intent to the fullest in the 2010s with his large group project the Andrew Weathers Ensemble. At times numbering over 16 musicians and improvisors, the group produced broad, sweeping soundscapes that incorporated elements of drone, minimalism, chamber music and americana. Weathers took this eclectic mix further, liberally using modern day technologies such as autotune and computer processing to elevate the group’s sound beyond the earthly, producing an oeuvre that reached beyond the boundaries of traditional song. Throughout its decade-long existence, Weathers’ ensemble crafted a handful of records that carried an off-kilter and uncanny vibe: a Promethean hybrid that exemplified boundless creativity and fearlessness.

Fuck Everybody, You Can Do Anything was the group’s third record and the first that Weathers pressed to vinyl on his own Full Spectrum imprint. Originally from North Carolina, he had decamped to Oakland, California to attend Mills College and immersed himself in the city’s underground music community. Through a series of improvisational sessions, Weathers and a 16-strong group of fellow travellers crafted recordings that blended kosmische stargazing with traditional Appalachian old-timey vibes. The album was the most cohesive expression of Weathers’ vision at the time and he liberally applied autotune to his vocals, which incorporated lyrics from contemporary emo, hip hop and R&B. This included lines from Drake’s “Shot for Me” on the most corporeal track, “Keep Fighting 2k15.”

The songs on Fuck Everybody carry a sense of hopefulness and strength, from the astral string band workout of “Live by the Golden Rule: Go Orange Be Strong” to the angelic chorus and fluttering piano of “We Will Never See a Cloud Again.” Even the instrumental pieces, on which the group build their sound into wave-like crescendos, evoke a sense of uplifting inspiration. A lot has happened in the socio-economic and geopolitical spheres in the ten years since this album arrived and now is a good time to revisit this sense of optimism. We need it.

Always the wanderer, Weathers has relocated twice since he released Fuck Everybody, first to Texas and then to Colorado. He’s also nurtured a career as a producer and engineer. For this anniversary edition of the album, Weathers completely remixed and remastered the music. He amplified the dreamlike quality of the drone harmonies, heightening the individual instrumental contributions while also emphasizing how they mesh in service of beauty. The autotuned vocals feel less uncanny and more integrated within the songs. Weathers really brings home the sense that when small communities come together, their group efforts can perform seemingly impossible feats. He’s telling us all to keep fighting.

Think about the Iraq War. It was started under the false claim that Saddam Hussein was on the verge of using weapons of mass destruction. No such weapons were ever found there by US troops.

The George Dubya Bush administration attempted to insinuate that Saddam had something to do with 9/11. The official 9/11 Commission, chaired by a friend of Dubya's father, found no involvement related to Saddam in its final report.

The Iraq War was a costly and deadly Republican farce.

As for Gaza, note that Israel has been fighting there for 16 months and still doesn't fully control it. What makes anybody think that Donald Trump and Elon Putz will do any better?

42 days after the US invasion of Iraq began, Bush made a theatrical landing on an aircraft carrier parked off the coast of San Diego to declare "mission accomplished" in Iraq. However the last US troops were not withdrawn until late 2011 – 8 years, 7 months, and 17 days after "mission accomplished" was proclaimed. Let's not forget that the disastrous US involvement gave rise to the nihilist terrorist group Islamic State which is still carrying out operations on several continents.

US involvement in Gaza would be a disaster of epic proportions.
