Debarred for two years. Any help is appreciated.
As the title suggests, I’ve been kicked out for two years. Though I’m planning to petition courses off and petition to lift the required withdrawal itself. The problem is that I’m not quite sure what kind of reasons are acceptable. My gpa was extremely close to the 4, the reason why it was that low is because I’m an idiot and I didn’t retake the first year courses which affected my gpa a lot. I’m fine with missing a semester or even a year, but I feel that two years is quite a long time that I do not have and the fact that I was close to the minimum gpa makes it even worse. So my questions are:
1) Would me not repeating first year courses be a good enough reason? what about being close to the minimum gpa?
2) Would petitioning to drop some courses that will improve my gpa mean that I can go back during the winter (since it will obviously take a while to receive a response) if the petitions get accepted?
3) Since I didn’t receive any warning from osap, should I contact them or just wait?
4) What would you do if you were in my position? If there are any advice that you could share, I’d appreciate it. (I did speak to my counselor and didn’t really help much).
I’d just like to mention that the reason for taking action very late is because I wasn’t feeling particularly well mentally to cope with it at first, and now that I’m over it and accepted the reality. I realized I should at least try something whether it works or not.
Sorry for the long post and silly questions.
Thanks for what you do. Cheers!
1) This really depends on the petition committee, but unfortunately I don’t think that would be strong enough on its own. If you have other supplemental reasons, that would really help your petition (e.g. family or health issues).
2) Yes, if removing those petitioned courses brings you over the GPA requirement.
3) They’ll get around to contacting you, you don’t need to do anything in this scenario.
4) Personally, I would try petitioning and really try to make a strong case for how you tried your best. Unfortunately I don’t really have any other advice - but if anyone out there has had a similar experience and has any, I will update this post with comments/asks.
