"LMAO Fourth Doctor hates the Master" Four's whole character is acting childish and rude because he's actually sensitive and wants to be loving but can't handle confrontation. He's just been forced back to his home planet, an incredibly traumatic place and sees his best friend in the entire universe painfully ROTTING ALIVE. Ofc he's a bit standoffish, of course he's trying to act like he doesn't care because that's what the Doctor (especially this version, but you can make an argument every Doctor pulls this) usually does in response to trauma, hides his incredibly damaged emotions, his fear and rage and sorrow. That's who he is!! It doesn't mean he doesn't care! That's what he wants you to think, that's what he wants to think!

thinking about this parallel between the audio stories 'Master' and 'Planet of Dust' where the Doctor promises to save the Master, and how in both instances the Master ends up having to save themself

Something that's occurred to me. There's multiple versions of how the Master became Crispy, one of them that he tried to regenerate despite having no regens left

And I've been thinking, if he knew he was in his last body why did he try regenerating? Why not find an alternative?

Or heck, if he knew it was his last incarnation, he could have tried to find a way to extend his life before it got to the point where he was barely hanging onto life as Crispy

But what if he DIDN'T know that was his last body?

Because you know how at the end of The Dark Path (great novel, go read it if you haven't) he went through multiple regenerations while trying to escape the Darkheart? What if he lost count of how many he'd lost while being in there and thought he had more left than he did?

I’ve finally watched ‘The Deadly Assassin’ and it’s so funny seeing the Doctor going on and on about “the Master is the most evil, cunning foe I’ve ever faced, he remains at large and is very much a threat”, then it cuts to the Decayed Master, good old Skeletor, and he’s hobbling around gasping for breath, wide-eyed and in desperate need of a dermatologist. The Doctor is literally being his arch-enemy’s hype man for no reason and I love it 😭.
