It was like You were holding the World when You held Her
This is for my love @decennia because Cord and Klaus have become my new obsession. Also, Klaus, Enoch, and Elspeth belong to her
“How do you think this sounds? Make a move and make it now?”
“Yeah, I like that! It would sound good in somewhat of a lower key.”
“Absolutely, and make sure that you have that background beat on the keyboard T.”
Cordelia Grey smiled as she settled back against the seat of the compartment she was sharing with Daphne Greengrass and Tracey Davis, her two best friends since First Year. The three of them were an interesting blend that many people were surprised to see work. If you looked at it from one perspective, you would see that they all came from different backgrounds. Daphne the pure blood society of the Wizarding World, Tracey a halfblood, and Cord a Muggleborn.
Their personalities were also fairly different; Tracey tended to be quieter than her two best friends, but she made up for it by her tough attitude and fierce loyalty. Daphne had an elegant flair to her, yet only those close to her knew that she possessed an underlying layer of steel that made her practically unbeatable in an argument. As for Cord, she was known as the sweetheart of the group, who never had a bad word to say to anyone (unless if they deserved it). However, that didn’t mean she was unable to defend herself. Cordelia Grey made a reputation for herself as someone who could shut you down with a well-worded statement, and you would wonder how you ever made it out alive.
Together, the three of them formed the Antimony Trio, as Hogwarts had so lovingly termed them. It also became the name of the band they decided to form in Third Year due to the inconceivable lack of female bands in the Wizarding World. They were currently in the middle of their annual songwriting session that they have on the Hogwarts Express September 1st, and it was going very well if Cord said so herself.
That suddenly came to a halting stop when the compartment door opened to admit Blaise Zabini and Theodore Nott, their two fellow Slytherins and friends. Blaise also happened to be Daphne’s boyfriend, which was why he immediately went over and proceeded to snog her.
A long line of “EW”, “That’s disgusting”, and “I’m so glad I’m not straight” came out of the mouths of the other three.
“That’s fine, we’ll just go find a different compartment and snog,” said Blaise smirking, and before they could even blink, the couple was gone.
“Why that no good, egotistical…” fumed Cord.
“So much for finishing the song,” Tracey groaned, burying her face in her hands.
“Sorry about that,” said Theo sympathetically. “I should’ve tried harder to stop Blaise, but he’s a sly one.”
“I need a walk,” said Tracey, getting up from her seat and stretching. “Come on Theo, let’s go hassle Smith for some cigarettes.”
“Ugh, what a douche. He makes me want to either punch him or myself in the face.”
With that, Cord was left alone in the compartment, with the exception of Horus, her barn owl. Sighing, she grabbed a Cauldron Cake and shoved it in her mouth. She didn’t need to worry about anyone seeing her do that…
“Well, looks like I finally got you alone.”
Freezing, she turned towards the door to see Klaus Sallow leaning against the doorway. A delicious smirk was on his face while watching Cord quickly turned away again (probably to wipe away the evidence of that Cauldron Cake, he thought with amusement). After a minute, her beautiful smile was in front of him again.
Klaus had no idea how Cordelia Grey had managed to become so important to him over the years. At first, he only talked to her because her well-known renown in Charms (and also Enoch and Elspeth love her [though Elspeth was less vocal about it than Enoch]).
But then, Klaus started noticing things about her. It started out small, like how she loved Cauldron Cakes due to how similar they were to cupcakes and that ABBA is her favorite band.
He knew that, as much as Cord loved the ocean, she hadn’t been back there since before her eleventh birthday because it reminded her too much of her parents. He knew that she cherishes her friends due to never having close friends before Hogwarts. He knew that Professor Grey and Buffy Fawley are her idols, and that she’s terrified of disappointing them.
That was when Klaus Sallow realized that he liked Cordelia Grey. As more than a friend.
It had knocked him for a new one, and he wasn’t sure how to process it. For one thing, Klaus thought that she was only into girls. He knew that Cord had dated Cheyenne, who was also in his house, for awhile. However, she never gave any indication that she was into guys (although Klaus was pretty sure that Potter was into her, which really made him angry).
Cord always continues to surprise him, though, because after what happened with the DA (Klaus refuses to go there, it still haunts him to this day), he was positive she was never going to speak to him again.
But, she came up to him, told him that she didn’t blame him for what happened, and that she liked him.
Klaus still thanks his lucky stars that Cordelia Grey is in his life.
“Hey,” said Cord, her smile making his insides do backflips. “You actually have perfect timing. Blaise and Daphne just left to go snog, and Tracey and Theo went to go hassle Smith.”
“Ugh, he’s such a douche,” Klaus rolled his eyes.
“That’s exactly what Theo said.”
Snorting at that, he came in and sat next to her, putting an arm around Cord’s shoulder so she could snuggle into him. He had to admit (even if it was just to himself), but if Klaus could freeze time and stay in this moment with her, he would.
Because, having Cord in his arms felt like Klaus was holding the world in them, and he will do everything in his power to make sure that world will stay safe.
