does anyone have any advice on telling parents you're legally changing your name?

I'm a young adult so this is me telling them, not asking, but I don't know how to approach this conversation. I've been out to them for 4 years and they still refuse to use my name and attempts to ask them to use it have not previously gone well and consequently I get a lot of anxiety about approaching this subject matter with them. I've been socially transitioning for 3 years, which I suspect they aren't *fond* of but they've accepted they can't stop it, but my name is one of the big hangups for them. I don't exactly want to hide it from them because this is a part of my life and I want to be unapologetically who I am but I don't know how to address this with them.

Any other trans peeps in the UK find it hilarious that there isn't an actual document to change your name,

That you literally just get a piece of paper and write "I was whatever, now I'm whatever" and that's literally it,

No fucking government forms or sending stuff in, I mean, it's great, but it's also kinda funny I could write this shit on a napkin get two people to sign it and I'm done.

So there is an organisation in the UK that helps you do a DIY deed poll.

Basically, for free , they do you a template for your deed poll with all the wording and all that shit, alll you have to do is substitute the names in and stuff.

Anyway, I've filled it out, tommorrow, I am sending it off for a print and getting some peeps ik irl to sign.

My name is gonna be changed legally dudes.

For people waiting to get an enrolled deed poll back — mine’s just come back recently and it took 11 months since sending the application. I did call them a week or two before it came back and they marked it as urgent as I was moving out and needed it back asap, so it might have taken longer if I hadn’t done that, but just as a general heads up that’s roughly how long it might take

So I think I lost some friends because they don't like my first name. I know some of them are autistic that really hates change and I know they don't understand why either. I get it, they grew up in a loving home and I never did. I never experienced that, well with my birth parents anyway.

But here's the thing, some of my autistic friends absolutely love my new name, just some, just don't like it. One girl said on my post (that's public) said "but I love your name, I don't know why you changed it" even tho I fully explained why in my post. Maybe she never experienced abuse and rape before. My best friends brother (he's not autistic) was going on one how he didn't understand, well he grew up in a loving home, I didn't.

That's what basically it comes down too, me not growing up in a loving home.

I did with my adopted dad for 9 years on and off. However my birth parents, it was hell.

I hope the people in my life understand that I changed my name for me and me only.

i admit, i forgot to do this last week. you see that is what happens when i don't write it onto my to do list! well! let's give you all a rundown of everything!! a little bit of everything, all of the time! sorry...

the first and second week of august went as well as i could have expected. up and down. up and down. as of right now when i am writing this... i'm on a down but i'm trying. i really am!

well i cleaned more of my study and got that basically done! which is great! i styled my wig for denki and i am super proud of it! though i didn't end up going to the con. which is unfortunate.

but hey! i got to get my name legally changed which is great progress and i did a photo-shoot of me being... me! which are now my profile pictures!

now comes to the stress: i have realised my chronic pain and mental health issues may be unideal for me doing the musical theatre which for my grade requires me to be able to dance which i am physically unable to at times. it's not that i hate musical theatre. i just hate the way that the course makes me feel if that makes sense. but i am still deciding whether i should change courses or not (i'm not sure what course to change it to though which is annoying).

also my brain is still be an indecisive fuck and won't let me decide what language to learn... those who have been here a while know it's been months. yeah. it sucks!

i would love some affection and hugs and some love!
