I don't go around here anymore a lot, (thank god)

And I'm not one to judge when someone likes a modern adaptation of the Iliad

But I really hate when people who know Achilles and Patroclus from a tik tok about Epic the musical come out of the woods and say

"OMG I can't believe the Patrochilles shippers hate on Deidamia so much and they erase her for their yaoi ship"

And first of all

The Iliad is so fucking old, we can't even be sure of what society was like when it was first sang, because yes, the Iliad was first an oral tradition passed down generations that was later written down

And let me tell you, you don't have any idea of how much people have erased Patroclus from Achilles' story because of homophobia

Like it wasn't until 10 or so years ago that the idea of Patroclus as Achilles' lover became more normalized

And if you don't believe me, here, a list of some adaptations/retelling that reduce Patroclus' importance on Achilles' story, or make fun of Patroclus and treat him like a joke until his death, or simply give his role on the story as Achilles' most important person to a woman:

-the rage of Achilles by Terrence Hawkins

-A song of war a novel of Troy by different authors

-Fury of Achilles (1962) movie

-Song of Troy by Collen McCullough

-Ilión by Mario Villen

-Achilles by Silvio Caputo

And that are just the ones I've had the misfortune to read/watch, there are way more out there

Like people act as if suddenly Achilles being gay is so wildly accepted when there are incels out there in the wild who constantly will bring up Deidamia as definite proof that Achilles didn't love Patroclus with all his soul

As if Achilles' image wasn't used not so long by Gringolandia's government as propaganda

As if being queer wasn't illegal in more than 60 countries and Gringolandia wasn't heading over there

Like seriously? Do you fucking seriously think that this relationship between two men that has been ignored, censured and changed for DECADES is some-fucking-how oppressing your little straight ship?
