More Deltascape First Kiss Scene
(Picks up from yesterday's post.)
Severia’s eye closed and her lips curved into a smile as they met his halfway. Their connection was magnetic. He could no more pull away than he could sprout wings and fly. Every fiber of his being wanted to devour her, but he held back, made the kiss a question.
If this is what you want, then I will give you all that you ask for and more. I will give you everything. But it must be what you want. Please, tell me it is what you want.
It was Severia that broke the kiss to say, “I’ve been waiting so long for you to do that.”
Nero’s eyes widened slightly. A dozen things she had said and done over the past several days suddenly clicked into place in his mind. She had been trying to tell him, hadn’t she? But perhaps she had been just as afraid of doing the wrong thing as he was. Had he forgotten that it had been a risk taken that had led to their first kiss? That taking no chances earned nothing in return? When had he become such a coward?
Nero grabbed Severia by the waist and settled her in his lap. “My apologies for making you wait.” He pulled her into another kiss, holding none of his desire back this time, only a little caught off guard by the fervor of her return kisses. He remembered the way she had kissed him back then, in the hallway of the Gold Saucer. His hands roamed away from her waist, feeling the shape of her, the texture of her scales. He’d never gotten the chance to explore her more unfamiliar features the way he’d wanted to. Well, he intended to make sure he had that chance now.
“You do still want me then?” Severia whispered, their breath mingling between kisses.
“You doubted it?”
She pulled back and looked at him with worried brows. “I thought… after what I did…”
Nero laughed. “What you did? Severia, you saved my life. You didn’t have to. But it kept me going, the thought that maybe you cared even a little bit about my miserable carcass. And even when you were gone, I never could quite give up on that tantalizing possibility.”
Her kiss this time is soft and lingering, her lips sweeter than the plum wine they have been drinking. She laughed against his lips.
“You still want me,” she said, all relief. “I was so afraid.”
“You ridiculous woman,” he chuckled along with her. “Do you still not understand how endlessly desirable you are?
(Continue to part 3.)
First, we rank up to Captain, then run some job quests, then Palace of the Dead (if the queue isn't crap), then off to Deltascape V1.0! And perhaps some Hildibrand story while we're going through it.
Been thinking about this Stormblood exchange from the Omega quests a lot lately. AI and automation isn't new, just some tools and what they can do are new to the public. But still. The idea of a machine that can't tell fact from fiction, and so its output consists of inaccurate facsimiles, is itself not a new idea.
Transcript, bolded emphasis is mine:
NERO Halicarnassus, you say? The Queen of Dimension Castle?
CID What's this? You know of her?
NERO You mean you don't? Well, I suppose a blue-blooded brat such as you would have no interest in humble folktales. It appears a lesson is in order. Halicarnassus is a character from an ancient fable. In the tale, she is one of the chief antagonists, and as such things are wont to unfold, she meets her end at the hands of the heroes─incurably valiant youths not unlike our adventurer friend here. Literary historians have speculated that the tale could be loosely based on events which took place in the Fourth Astral Era, but little remains of that age, and there is no way to verify the claim. Indeed, most now assume the story to be a work of pure fiction.
CID …You mean to tell me that Omega is populating its grand experiment with fictional characters?
MIDGARDSORMR 'Twould seem your understanding is yet lacking. Scant grasp have I of that which men know and know not… Mark me, then. Omega hath no soul. No mind's eye in which to envision a rival. To bring forth new life, it must needs draw upon that which hath already been─its every creation being another's conception. This limitation is concealed by the breadth of its experience. It possesseth the means to retain the knowledge of entire eras─and not only of this reflection. Yet it perceiveth not this knowledge as we do. Fact…fiction…the distinction holdeth no meaning for Omega. All is equal in its eyes. If a thing is logical, it can be created.
NERO Hahaha! That such a wondrous weapon should exist! It surpasses my wildest imaginings, and they were wild indeed! But I gather not everyone shares my excitement. What's the matter, Garlond? Lost your nerve?
CID Quiet, Nero. We adults are thinking.
Cam and his fiance. #always be shipping
This raid was so heartwarming in the end too...I had to draw it. I only went back after to see the savage (cause I never got to).
