Today on IGTV Live @chabare at 11am EST, I get to chat with a brilliant young creative mind. Her name is Julia Marnin @juliamarninpoetry . When I asked Julia for a bio, this is what she sent me. “My name is Julia Marnin and I’m a 22 year old poet from New Jersey. I have enjoyed writing creatively for my entire life, however it is only recently that I decided to share my poetry with the world. I also love photography and I make my photos the background of my poems. This is a way that I am able to merge two of my passions, poetry & photography. I was born in Biloxi, Mississippi but grew up in NJ. This past May, I graduated from The College of New Jersey where I majored in English and minored in journalism. I interned for three news organizations during my college career including the Courier-Post apart of the USA Today Network. Alongside poetry, I have a passion for journalism & interviewing people...hearing and telling their stories. I am aspiring to be a professional journalist as well as pursuing making writing my profession. The first poem I ever wrote was in the 5th grade about a mouse. I’m inspired by love, heartbreak, nature, the cosmos & everything in between. I want to publish a poetry book soon which I hope to be the first of many. Other info is I’m the oldest child in my family! I have a younger brother named Lucas and a cat named Joey who I love sooo much.” Julia is young and forging ahead with trying to make the world a better place. After a dive into his feed, I could tell that this man is about living an inspired life that makes a difference. And, helping you to do the same. Today is going to a moving and spectacular interview! Ryan grew up in Utah, and post-college worked in Washington, DC doing international business and political consulting focused on the a Middle East and Africa. He left DC to become a middle-school teacher in rural Alabama for 2 years, inner-city New Orleans for 4 years, and East Los Angeles. During his tenure as a teacher, he was able to train new and veteran educators in New Orleans and Atlanta. He currently lives in Southern California with his beautiful queen, Keisha. He is now in the private sector consulting and operating in the renewable energy field. One day we will all look back on these days and see that our most fortified selves were being made. We in this together...no matter what you see. No matter what you hear. Martin Luther King Jr. spoke a powerful wonderful when he said, “the arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends towards justice”. Towards justice we move. Towards love we bend. Towards righteousness we press into. I am my brother’s keeper. And, you are mine. In being this, we both are made better. Stronger. More complete. These days are something fierce. Remember, times of peace call nothing from us. Times of war and pain, call everything from us. Everything. That is what is required this day. Everything. And, you got it. We got it. We can be the type of people you read about in books. The ones who lifted the entire world with their life...bit by bit. Story by story. Tonight, June 12th at 7pm EST, I get to chat with Brooke again. It’s gonna be about race. We are asking the questions that live behind closed doors. The questions we all have. It’s gonna to be messy. Maybe even a little tears and snot. But, you know what? We are going to show up. We know that we love each other. So, we will follow Love’s lead. We will assume the best of each other. So if a question comes off sideways, we will assume no malicious intent. We aren’t perfect. We don’t know everything or much. But what we do know, we have to have these hard conversations if we are ever going to grow and change. We have to show up to see and hear each other. We have to. I wrote this exactly 4 years ago. It speaks to me now so vividly. I hope it speaks to you too. The picture is just because I needed one to to post to the gram &...because I do love my home😉 Politics and religion magnify our differences. They make it seem like Mt. Kilimanjaro stands between us and we can never stand on the same soil. They sharpen our distinctions making it a prickly and cutting encounter. If, however, your intention is to connect your human heart to another...talk about the stuff that really matters...mothers, fathers, sisters, brothers, children, husbands, wives, fears, concerns, love and heart break. If you do this, you will stand shoulder to shoulder with the next person...because you'll realize that at the heart of it, we all want and fear the same thing. We want our lives to matter: we want our circles around the sun to count for something...dare I say? Beautiful and lasting. We fear that we will not be loved or know love. And, our existence won't matter. The truth is, we ALL matter and we are all deserving of love. I like to believe that everyone will know this. Furthermore, I intentionally seek out ways to make people feel seen, appreciated and loved. Not because I'm amazing, but because I get it. I get that you and I are more alike than we are different. I get that when this dance is over none of the differences will matter. It will be the concert of our movements together that will leave a legacy. Our lives are deposited in those around us with whom we connect. So, talk about stuff that matters...that connects you to another...the other stuff...the divisive stuff, falls away in the end. It does NOT last. My prayer: that our trips around the sun be filled with conversations, interactions and experiences that are imbued with meaning, connection and love. Today 6/10 at 7pm EST on IGTV Live, I get to speak and connect with Adriel @adrielbooker all the from the Land Down Under!! Adriel Booker is a speaker, advocate, storyteller, and community builder. For nearly twenty years she’s given her life to help people discover the intersection of God’s goodness, their God-given identity, and how they’re uniquely wired to love their neighbor well. Adriel is the author of Grace Like Scarlett: Grieving with Hope after Miscarriage and Loss and the creator of Our Scarlett Stories—a story-sharing platform and community for bereaved parents to find hope and healing after pregnancy loss through storytelling, mutual space to hold grief, and practices that lead to our spiritual formation. In 2011 Adriel founded the Love A Mama Collective—a grassroots movement of women committed to strengthening maternal health in the developing world through clean birth kits and other community development initiatives where access to health care is scarce. To date the Collective has raised 20,000 clean birth kits, funded midwifery scholarships, and resourced dozens of rural health outposts and village birth attendants through their annual Mother’s Day drives. Together with her husband and three sons, Adriel lives in Gadigal Land (more widely known as Sydney, Australia) where she co-leads a missional community and training and outreach center and enjoys her life-long dream of living in a city by the sea.
