In the grand scheme of things 4 months is no time at all and I’m still just in the baby stages of my transition, but I want to take the time to talk about the changes that have been happening so far, since the lack of resources out there for trans men (and women, though I can’t help there) is abysmal. Of course everyone’s body reacts to testosterone differently and everyone’s changes at a different speed and intensity, but these are my experiences.
Firstly (and a little TMI), the first thing I noticed at all was the clitoral growth. Not enough people talk about that in resources but it can grow quite a bit and it’s one of the first things to change (which is consistent with every trans guy I know who are on hormones). It may be more sensitive and the clitoral hood basically turns into pseudo-foreskin. It’s not as weird as it sounds, honestly. I was worried as hell about how that would look or feel, but it’s easy to get used to.
Within the first month and a bit I noticed that I needed a bit more food to function normally, but I also had a bit more energy to spare. Body odor also becomes an issue, but as long as you do your laundry and shower and use deodorant it’s all good. My skin also became oilier, and I’m dealing with a bit more acne than I’m used to.
Facial hair started to grow in thicker and darker about two months in, but it didn’t become bad enough that I had to shave it until about 3 months. I have to shave my moustache about every week or so or I risk looking like a nasty twelve year old with my first puberty-’stache. It’s still super sparse and only grows on my chin and moustache area, but I know a few guys who got beard hairs on their necks way more consistently than their chins. I’m assuming that’s a genetic thing.
Body hair has also started to grow in more, including down the insides of my thighs as a continuation of pubic hair (unfortunately) and thicker darker hair on the backs of my thighs and up over my knees. My treasure trail is also starting to grow in quite a bit darker.
Biggest thing of all so far is that I got only two periods after I started T. Some people have their period for up to 6 months after starting but thankfully I got pretty lucky with that. I’m over 2 months period free!!!!!
The next big thing to go was my voice. It’s still fairly normally pitched when I’m talking normally, but as soon as I raise my voice or get excited it cracks all over the damn place and I sound a bit like a dying cat. But my vocal range now drops way lower than it used to and I can’t go anywhere near as high as I could (which makes singing along to things a big learning curve).
These are the things I’ve noticed about myself as I go through my transition, and I’ve been doing my injections myself at home since the third injection. I’ve had no issues with the shots or with the testosterone itself, and while some of the effects of second puberty suck ass it’s a huge step forward and every little thing that I notice changing feels like a huge deal. I feel like I’m finally settling into myself day by day.
