He hasn't thought much of humans in the last several decades on this evolving, elusive quest for peace and solitude, but he never really had a reason to. He knows humans. Knows them as this muddled smear—an endless deluge of contradictions; as pharisaic, altruistic, selfish, selfless, wonderful, terrible things: symbiotic to himself and his siblings. Nothing more, nothing less.
But those ideas, those beliefs, are shattered when you—an ordinary human—washes up on his island with nothing but the clothes on your back, and a strange, almost unfathomable inability to leave his side no matter where he goes.
You're just something he can't make sense of.

–warnings: one use of y/n, ikaris (still not over his whole movie arc), readers Eternal name is Ruen, like Ruin but with one vowel change, they have the power to disintegrate anything and anyone they touch, think Rogue from X-Men, they’ll be referred to as Ruen, canon Eternal's deaths.
–summary: having the ability to destroy everything you touch all for the sake of protecting humanity, brings you on the radar of the Endless. More importantly, Destruction. A bond that blossomed then shatters, leaving the pieces to be picked up centuries later.

It all started in 5000 BC when the Eternals arrived in Mesopotamia. There were Ajak, Sersi, Ikaris, Thena, Gilgamesh, Kingo, Phastos, Druig, Makkari, Sprite, and Ruen. The 11 protectors of humanity.
Each of you had a gift that would help with humanities evolution. In addition to your oaths of protecting them.
While Phastos was the creator of the group, you were the destroyer.
Everything you directly touch disintegrates into nothingness. The nature of your power is to immediately destroy any threat to humans.
The only flaw being it accounts for all matter, you couldn't touch anything without it falling apart and fading into oblivion.
You couldn’t touch anyone, not even your fellow Eternals.
When you all arrived to humanity on the Domo protection was instantly needed. Deviants attacked and you, well you made them disappear, while the others fought back.
It wasn't long until you all were under the radar of other assistants to humanity, such as The Endless. Death was the first to approach you all when she took a soul. She heard stories from others she took about you all but this was the first she's actually seeing you.
“You guys are new.” She smiled as she stared at each of you.
“We’re The Eternals. We were sent to protect humanity from deviants. We're from the planet Olympia.” Sersi said as she gestured to you all.
“I’m an Endless, my whole family is. I hope one day we all meet together.” She said as she waved goodbye.
That did end up happening though. You weren’t sure how you became friends with all of them, it just sort of happened.
Over the course thousands of years of crossing paths whenever they were on Earth or some Godly meeting the Eternals got an invitation to.
The one person you grew closest to was Destruction. He was the only one not affected by your touch. It was an accidental finding when you took off your gloves to wash your hands and he bumped into you.
Your hand grazed his arm. The petrified feeling that you may have caused a disturbance in space and time wiping out humanity.
But to your amazement he stayed in one piece. All smiles as he stabilized you. Him being the embodiment of destruction he was immune to your power.
“I can touch you.” You whispered backing away.
“Well, let's at least know each other's names first.” He laughed.
“Ruen the Eternal. Just call me Ruen or my mortal name, y/n.” You said holding out your hand.
“Destruction.” He shook your hand to your surprise. You never had direct contact with anyone before.
That's how your friendship began and continued over the course of centuries.
Whenever he came to roam around with humanity he always searched for you. No matter how far you were since your last meet up he’d always find you.
Whether it was a temple in Greece or a village in Europe. He was always there to lend you a hand and comfort.
So when he appeared at the Fall of Tenochtitlan in 1521, you knew a lot of your dynamic would change. The breakup of the Eternals was something that was foreseen for centuries.
Coexisting with the others after the last deviant was killed. It was all bound to break eventually.
Destruction stood far away from the chaos just waiting and watching. Both the fighting and you. You both knew you couldn’t interfere with the fighting below the only thing either of you can offer would make the fight worse.
“It’s all so horrible.” You said running a gloved hand on your arm watching as Ajak rounded the others beside her. You sat on the ground as he stood above you watching everything unfold.
“I know but we can’t meddle in their affairs. It’s all for the greater good.” He said as he crouched down beside you.
You rolled your eyes, even though you knew he didn’t believe that. It was stupid the oaths you took. Never interfere with humanity even when they’re on the brink of extinction—all in the sake of building a better world.
“Ruen!” Ajak called out motioning for you to come over.
“That’s my cue, same time next war?” You laugh sarcastically as you smooth down your purple uniform.
“Always.” He nodded as he leaned back against the tree.
Later in the temple, Druig was the first to call out the faults of the grand plan. He was also the first to leave, the straw that broke the camel's back, officially marking the disbandment of the team.
In the beginning it was tough not constantly being with them. You all spent every waking moment together that being apart felt awkward.
You moved between different countries before settling down in Europe. The town was small and quaint, a perfect place to hide as someone who doesn’t age.
At some times it got tricky, lying about which ancestor you looked like. Or why you wear gloves every single moment of the day.
But it was home. It was quiet and peaceful but most importantly it was yours.
A letter arrived at your door soon after the century mark of you being here. The letter had a sword drawn on it, you already knew it was going to be good.
‘Finally found you again my destroyer. I’ll be stopping by tomorrow. There’s something I want to talk to you about. Two things actually. —Destruction’
You smiled as you held the letter close. You placed it in your keepsake box before cleaning around the home.
He was true to his word and arrived the next day, he seemed eager.
“So, how has the last century been for you?” You said taking the kettle off the small fire.
He stood quiet as you placed the tea in front of him. He stared at you as you placed yours down.
“I’ve left my post.” He said nonchalantly.
You blinked and looked down at your cup before looking back at him.
“You what?” You said in disbelief.
“I left my realm and my job behind.” He picked up the small cup and took a sip.
“I was hoping you’d come with me. We can live our lives free from the burden of destroying things.” He smiled as he looked at you with soft eyes.
He wanted for you guys to live our lives freely, and maybe in the midst of that soul journey find a way to reach a new level of friendship.
A part of you thought about leaving with him but you swore to be a protector of humanity.
“Why would you do that? Why would I do that?” You shook your head leaning back into your seat.
“I love them too much to be the cause of their annihilation. You’ve seen what they’ve done to each other. We can go live in peace somewhere.” He said, growing nervous. A part of him wished you were able to make him disappear.
“But that’s your purpose. What are humans going to do now?” You placed your cup to the side crossing your arms.
“My realm still works, I’m just not running it anymore.” He shrugged.
“That’s not the point of your existence, Destruction. You’re supposed to stick by humanity through the good and the bad.” You were puzzled to say the least.
You weren’t sure when the words blurred and became an argument. All you knew was that the tea grew cold and the fire burned out.
“The Eternals are no saints also standing by as wars and famines plagued this world, all for what?” He spat as he leaned on the table.
“It’s my job!” You exclaimed eyebrows knitted together.
“It was also mine. For far longer than it was yours. The only difference is how we go about it.” He said watching you get up from the table. You took off your gloves running a hand through your face.
“Oh please you Endless are different. You serve humanity while my people protect it. You’re their shadows, staying in your realms while we’re hands on fighting for them, making choices. I’m not just going to abandon them for some stupid mental feud you’re having with yourself.” You knew you shouldn’t have said that.
Destruction's eyes darkened as he stood up. The chairs screech echoing in the silence.
“Stupid? I’m trying to free myself and be happy, you think that’s stupid.” He snapped.
You already said it, there was no way to take it all back.
“You’re talking about abandoning our individual oaths we made to help them.” You snapped back.
“I don’t want to be the cause of their demise.”
Neither did you. But you have an obligation to them, if you just left the Eternals will be down a member and then who would help them protect humans.
“So you’ll just leave them behind and watch while they do it themselves.” You stood before him shaking your head.
“You act as if Druig didn’t do the same.” He retorted a sarcastic laugh leaving his mouth.
“He left but he’s still here protecting people.”
“He’s controlling people on a remote compound in Peru.” He scoffed, rolling his eyes.
“At least he hasn’t deserted them.” You said pressing a finger on his chest.
A tense silence fell over the room as you stared at each other.
“I have an obligation to humanity. I am not abandoning my purpose to feed some fantasy.” You said taking a deep breath.
“You can also destroy them. It’s what you do.” He took a step forward making you hit the table, your palm rested on it making it disintegrating into ash on the floor and the cups shattered.
“It’s also what you do. No matter how much you want to run from it, you’ll be there when the inevitable happens.” You spat as you put your gloves on.
“Leave my home. Don’t ever come back. Don’t look for me either.” You continued as you began to pick up the shards.
His stare grew cold. “You will never see me again.”
He stood straight for a moment before walking out slamming the door behind him. His confessions of love boroughing down into his chest.
For a moment you debated going after him, but ultimately decided against this.
He stood at your steps wondering if he should go back and do what he originally came for, confess his love and try to have you go with him.
But seeing the first trial run his anger came back and he officially left.
That night was the first in years that you felt truly alone. That was the first night in centuries that you cried so hard. There was no chance in this lifetime that things between you would go back to normal.
Destruction kept his word. It’s been three hundred years since he showed up at your door, overtime you’ve moved to different countries and lived different lives. Each one didn’t have him in it. Looking back at it now, you probably would’ve gone.
But as the saying goes, all good things must come to an end.
You got the call when you were relaxing at home. Tv playing reruns of old shows and cereal on your lap. As you have been for the past five years when the Blip happened.
Ajak is dead and Sersi is coming to visit. Sersi, Sprite and Ikaris sat at your dining room table breaking the news slowly. The deviants were also back after being dormant for thousands of years.
Sersi shared the fact she was now the new wielder of Ajak’s communication sphere.
“So we all have jobs again.” You half heartedly laughed trying to make light of the situation.
“Ruen, we’re collecting everyone. We’re hoping to stop them and whatever’s coming.” Sersi said as she stood up.
You stood up grabbing your jacket and keys. “Let’s go get the others.”
It all led you now to stand in Australia with Kingo as your new addition. Gilgamesh welcomed you all with a feast, Thena staying to herself.
You stood beside Sersi as she examined the artwork. You tuned out Sersi’s frustration and just stared at them.
It brought you back to a point in time where Destruction managed to score a painting you were desperate to have.
He recreated it and also gifted it to you saying “You now have the original and the better version of it.”
“Why do you think I can’t talk to him?” Sersi whispered.
You shrugged, she continued to mumble her frustrations. “Some people just like staying hidden, Sers. Just take it easy.”
“She’s right, Sersi.” Gilgamesh said as he approached.
You continued to stare as he gave his own words of advice and shared the meaning of the paintings.
You walked back to the others leaving them alone. Maybe one day you’ll ask him for advice on what to do about the whole Destruction thing.
You didn’t know how to feel about Sersi’s revelation. All this time you all were the enemies you were sworn to fight. Oaths to protect humanity only to be the real danger in the first place.
Sent down as assassins to manage the “problem” deviants posed, while humanity grew for one day it could be destroyed.
The deviants were never the true threats, you were. You were all practically breeding humanity to one day be annihilated.
You were all in some Celestial chess game that you were made to forget each time you reincarnated.
But Sersi had a plan.
Nobody dies
Delay Tiamut
Get humans to safety.
The first part of that plan failed as you all fought off the deviants at Druig’s compound, Gilgamesh died. The funeral was brief.
Then you made your journey to Chicago for Phastos, then Iraq to retrieve the Domo. Only to be greeted by Makkari.
The plan was laid out and simple. Albeit difficult trying to figure out the small quirks but it was done.
The only thing unaccounted for was Ikaris’ betrayal. You assumed you all were oblivious to the true nature of your existences.
So when he fought you all in an attempt to have the Emergence be fulfilled, your view of everything shattered.
Not only you spent thousands of years fighting for a cause that ultimately would amount to nothing.
But you sent away your most dearest friend when you could’ve had a chance to be free.
In the end you all managed to come out victorious. Sersi managed to turn Tiamut to stone. A piece of him forever stuck in the ocean. Ikaris then flew into the sun.
All became well. If well was an existential crisis given to an over five-thousand year old being.
Destruction felt it all from miles away. He knew what was coming before you all did. He may have left his realm and job behind but destruction was still a part of him.
His powers overwhelmed him. It all felt like the end until it didn’t. When the image of Tiamut showed on his tv screen he knew what he had to do.
It led him to the steps of your house, alongside Barnabas who opted to keep his opinions to himself.
His hand rapped the wooden door. He questioned whether or not he should’ve just sent a letter like he used to.
What if you weren’t home? What if you were still angry at him? All those thoughts came to a head when the door opened.
Your heart sank as you stared at Destruction. A lopsided smile played at his features.
“You haven’t changed.” He said as he stared at you.
You couldn’t help the smile that crossed your face as you let him in.
“Like what you’ve done with the place. It’s more modern than the last.” He joked as he watched you go into the kitchen.
“I tried my best.” You said turning on the stove to brew tea. Just like old times.
“So, why are you here?” You asked as he sat down at the table next to you. You stayed by the stove, eyes fixated on the kettle.
“I saw the news, Tiamut's name sounded familiar. I felt the balance of the world change, thought I may come see you just in case.” His words were shy.
It’s been centuries since you’ve last seen each other and you still managed to have an effect on him.
“Yeah it was my side of the fighters for humanity. We stopped an Emergence which would’ve wiped out this world.” You said as you watched the water boil.
Your eyes filled with tears as you thought of the past couple of days.
Your leader died, you reunited with people who you haven’t seen in centuries, found out you were a fraud, and had your back scraped by rocks as Ikaris fought and flung you, just to lead Destruction to your front door.
“Are you okay, love?”
Physically you were fine. Mentally however.
You were quick to wipe the tear that fell as you shut off the stove. The tea can wait.
You braced your hands on the counter before letting the tears fall freely. Destruction was swiftly on his feet, his arms wrapping around you letting your tears soak his shirt.
He kissed the top of your head consoling you. He rocked you both, running his hand on your back soothing your cries.
“My people are frauds.” You said wiping your tears stepping back.
“The Eternals were sent down, no we were mind wiped then brought to Earth. To essentially make sure this world gets wiped out.” You took a step back grabbing drinks from your fridge, passing him one.
“We existed for the sake of their annihilation. We’re monsters.” You said taking his seat at the table. You felt ashamed of yourself.
“Your thoughts weren’t foolish. I gave you all that trouble ages ago calling you stupid for wanting to run away. ” Your eyes met his as he grabbed your hand.
“That was years ago, it's alright I’ve gotten over it.” He offered you a grin as he rubbed the back of your hand.
“If I knew my purpose was all for this. I would've gone with you. At least we’d have some peace just overseeing humanity from afar. But I just couldn’t leave them then.” You placed your hand on his and laughed.
“You loved your job. You love humanity, you believed you were doing good. No one can fault you for that. You laid your life on the line for them for thousands of years. A monster wouldn't do that.” He leaned closer to you, a comfortable silence emanating through the room.
“If anything, that's one thing I love about you. Besides actually loving you.” He said, watching as you smiled softly.
“Smooth.” Barnabas said, looking at both of you.
Destruction unlinked your hands as he crossed his arms. “That’s the second thing I wanted to talk to you about besides abandoning my post.” His whole demeanor turned bashful, a contradiction to how he was physically.
“How long have you loved me?”
“For thousands of years. I was kind of shy.”
You let out a chuckle. “I love you too.”
“As I offered all those years ago, would you like to abandon your post and be free with me. I have something better to offer this time around, a whole secluded Island. Beautiful view and massive. No one will bother us, and I worked a little Endless magic so we won’t be found.” He gestured widely into the space.
You pretended to think about it as he stared at you. Eyes twinkled as he waited for your answer.
“As long as you help me pack my stuff.” You said standing up.
He let out a silent cheer already making his way to your room.
“I can’t believe you were shy? Someone as old as you I expected anxiety to be scared of you.” You said as you placed old relics safely in your suitcase.
“Watch yourself before I rescind my offer.” He said, closing the bag, grabbing the last of your things.
“You wouldn’t dare, you love me.” You taunted as you swung the bag over your shoulder.
You both walked to your backyard. Barnabas sitting next to you.
“You ready love?”
You nodded as you held your bags. You’re really leaving your life behind.
He held out a hand to you. “Your actual hand, no glove.”
You smiled, taking off the glove, the air kissing your skin as you grabbed him.
In a flash you were at his home. To say it was beautiful was a complete understatement. He was swift to put your stuff in the living room.
“Destruction.” You called out walking into the living room. He hummed in response. You cradled his face in your hands, before placing a quick peck on his lips.
“We’ve waited centuries for this and that’s the best you can give me?”
“I will touch everything without my gloves, do not push your luck.”
This was my first crossover piece in ages so it being my latest fixations I was over the moon. Feedback is welcome!

So I watched Sandman s2 to get more Captain Price inspo since Barry is in it. And now I've fallen in love with Destruction, too. He honestly feels like an extension of Price tbh. Like they have very similar personalities. It gives post retirement Price. I also think Price would be exactly like that if he was a god. And he would definitely be the god of Destruction. Anyway, here's lil blurb of thoughts I was having about Destruction whilst watching the show.
Destruction is tired of annihilating things. That's why he abandoned his family. He has spent millennia being the force that turns cities to dust and brings civilizations to their knees. He wants to create things now. It's why he's taken up painting, and writing, and countless other forms of art. He is not Death, but he has caused a great deal of it. Through art, he can experience a facsimile of causing life.
You are the daughter of the most recent priest in a long line of priests tasked with watching over Orpheus. You grew up learning to compose music from the man who brought the Furies to tears. Your voice is that of an angel, and the songs you write are nothing short of masterpieces.
Destruction meets you whilst on his once-a-century visit to his nephew. As he is leaving the temple, he hears you singing, weaving the most beautiful story with your melodies. He's drawn towards you like a moth to a flame, and he finds you bathing in the nearby river, bare skin adorned with beads of water that sparkle like precious gems. You are ethereal, and he is vividly reminded why he fell in love with humanity.
A shriek abruptly cuts off your enchanting hymn when you spot him, and you sink deeper into the water, all the way up to your chin, attempting to preserve your modesty. It shocks him from his trance, and he immediately turns away, an apology falling from his lips. But he doesn't leave, can't bring himself to leave, even as he hears the splash of you getting out of the river, and then the rustling of fabric as you hurriedly pull on your clothes. When you try to rush past him, he reaches out, big, calloused hand that has spilled endless amounts of blood wrapping around your wrist.
"Wait," he says, and it somehow sounds like both a an order and a plea. You freeze for only a second, before you try to pull away. Your hand doesn't so much as budge, even though his grip never tightens. He holds on for a second longer before he forces himself to let go, and he watches you as you flee, back towards the temple. He doesn't follow, not wanting to scare you anymore than he already has. He knows that he should leave, that he should go back to his island and not return for another century, by which time you and your songs will be long dead. His dog awaits him, as do his paints and his poems. He will be fine without your music, as he has been for hundreds of years.
That night, your voice haunts his Dreams, and he can't help but wonder if it is his brother's doing. But meddling has always been Desire's forte, not Morpheus's, and his most dangerous sibling can't reach him here. None of them can, in truth. Deep down, he knows this newfound obsession with you is his own, and that terrifies him.
Because even now, hundreds of years after leaving his family and his duties behind, he is still the Endless Destruction. And the thought of destroying something like you, a shining example of all that he adores about humanity, so young and full of life, the exact thing he's been seeking for centuries--it's agonizing.
And yet, he finds himself at his nephew's temple the very next morning, utterly incapable of staying away.
Reader who just knows Destruction is packing after catching a brief glimpse of him in that fustanella of his. Hiding amidst the shadows as they weren't supposed to be in the room. Not so easily hidden like Matthew, the pesky little raven.
But since then, it was all they could fixate on. It wasn't that his everyday clothing left much to imagination but that armor of his was somehow salacious. Going as far as trying to figure out how big he must be. The length. The girth.
Alas, none of this goes unnoticed by Destruction. The clumsy little thing didn't have an iota of stealth to them. Seeing the mathematical formulas laid out on paper when he finds them dead asleep at their desk. Letting out a small chortle at the realization.
It's a few days later that he decides to confront them. Getting all up in their personal bubble. Pinned up against the wall, sleeves of his flannel pushed up to his elbows. Caging them in. 'You know you could've just asked?'
'Really gonna act like you don't know what I'm talking about?' Brushing a thumb along their lower lip as denial spills from those lips. Destruction brazenly reached down to grab his cock through his pants. Watching with a hungry gaze as it catches their attention, managing to break through Reader's drunken stupor. His measly prey. Just playing with his food at this point.
Once he gets them to admit to it all, he tosses them over his shoulder. Ignoring everyone else in the room as he walks towards the stairs. One arm wrapped around the back of their thighs.
Destruction slaps their ass, 'really thought I wouldn't give you a demonstration, when it's been the only thing you've thought about for months? would be quite rude if I didn't.' Speaking as he sensed their confusion. Making quick work of the stairs. 'Don't fret, will make sure it's worth all those nights pouring over those equations of yours.'
SOOOO, I SAW SOMEONE THAT WAS LIKE "OMG, FANFIC WRITTERS, WHEN ARE YOU GOING TO WRITE FICS WITH DESTRUCTION, I LOVE HIM SO MUCH AND THERE'S ALMOST NO CONTENT WITH HIM" WELL MY DEAREST READERS, HERE'S MY FIC!
I hope you like it! 🖤😊☝
Destruction had hidden in the most remote corner of the waking world so that none of his eternal brothers could find him, not even Despair, the most persistent of all the Eternals, and the one he loved the most.
But what he didn't expect was that YOU would find him.
Just an ordinary mortal, with no sense of direction or compass pointing north, someone as lost as he once was and as he never wanted to be again.
He looked up at the sky and saw the intense sun rising over the horizon, offering its life-giving light to keep everyone alive and moving.
"Friend, you'd better polish your fur or go wallow in a cool pond," he commented, speaking to his faithful companion Barnabas.
"Why? Are you waiting for someone?" "The dog asked, tilting his head at him as if he were a human. "No offense, but no one has come to visit you in centuries," he said, standing up from the basket the Eternal had made for him from an old shell of what mortals called a bicycle. "What makes you think anyone will find this place anytime soon?"
"I'm going to let them find it," he blurted out suddenly, making the dog frown. "Don't look at me like that. I haven't had a bit of fun in ages," he complained. "I think it's time I did."
"Mortals aren't game pieces," Barnabas reminded him. "They're human beings who deserve the same respect you have for your brothers."
-You know? Dream would really like you—he smiled at the memory of his brother, always wrapped in his black robes with a cold, impenetrable expression on his face—he ended up coming to that same conclusion in the end
Barnabas didn't want to delve deeper into the subject since his friend didn't add anything else to the conversation.
So instead, he scampered to the back of the house where the eternal still kept the gallery with his brothers' seals next to his rarely used divination pool.
He peered over the edge a little, and seeing nothing, he retreated to return to his master.
He assumed that whatever the magical artifact was supposed to show was reserved for his own viewing, so there was little he could do.
While all this was happening, you found yourself in the middle of the forest with a compass that didn't work and a sticky heat that clung to parts you didn't want to say out loud.
You looked beyond the leafy trees and realized you could glimpse the end.
Not the end of the forest, but there was a sort of opening between two of them.
You trudged there, and when you stood before them, you realized there was no turning back, that if you crossed that border you might not be able to return home.
You decided to take a risk because, if not, why had you come all that way?
So without a second thought, you reached out and brushed against something gelatinous, as if a draft had solidified.
You closed your eyes before pushing your body through whatever it was.
When you did, you opened your eyes to see what awaited you on the other side.
In front of you was a house, but not a luxurious one by any means; it was a modest wooden peasant's cottage.
Surrounding it was an orchard and a small garden with hand-planted flowers.
You tilted your head from side to side, trying to figure out if anyone was there because it was impossible for that paradise to have been there forever and you hadn't noticed.
Then you heard the sound of small paws running along the path toward you.
A dog came out of the grass and came bounding up to you.
You bent down to scratch it behind its ears, causing it to lie on its back so you could scratch its belly as well.
"That's it. Who's a good boy? Yes, you are!" You smiled at how the animal enjoyed your attention, unaware that someone was watching you, leaning against the doorway of the house.
"I'm glad to see you like the host" he commented, making his presence known.
You looked up suddenly, and there he was.
You weren't sure what to expect since you weren't sure what or who you were looking for, so when you saw him, you were pleasantly surprised.
The man in front of you was dark-skinned, with a stocky appearance and a lopsided smile that you were sure had helped him get many girlfriends in the past… or maybe still was.
"You've come a long way to get here," he murmured, nodding toward the interior of the house. "The least I can do is offer you my hospitality and a seat at my table," he explained. "Please come in"
Slowly, you stood up and walked past him and into the house.
The air smelled of food, freshly cut wood, and wet earth.
Your eyes absorbed the austere beauty of the place before shifting your gaze to the already set table.
It was in the middle of the room.
Several dishes were piled up in the small space, each one looking more delicious than the last.
"You knew I'd come," you explained; it wasn't a question. He nodded.
"That's right," he affirmed. "I thought you'd be hungry, so I made you something to eat." He shrugged. "I don't know if you'll like it, but I've done my best."
"I'm sure it will," you reassured him. "Besides, you're right, I'm really hungry." You slanted your gaze toward the table. "Can I…?"
"Of course, sit down." He indicated a spot, and he sat down opposite you.
When you put a spoonful in your mouth, the smooth taste of potato and carrot mixed with the oil almost made you cry with happiness at tasting something so exquisite in that place that seemed straight out of a dream.
"How did you find me?" He asked after you finished eating
"A man asked me to look for you," you confessed. "I don't know his name, nor do I have any information on him, so no matter how hard I tried, I couldn't identify him," you explained. "The only time we met, he hid his face with some kind of disguise"
"A glamour," he murmured, paying attention to your explanations. "So you have no connection to the Endless?"
"I know the stories, but I don't think they're real," you blurted out, making him smile. This was definitely starting to get interesting. "The Endless is a story told to little children before they go to sleep." You snorted. "If you don't fall asleep soon, the King of Dreams will send a nightmare to scold you." It's… surreal.
The smile on his face widened, catching your attention.
"Why are you making that face? Did I say something funny?"
Destruction admired that about you.
If you had been in his kingdom, he would have lived up to his name and erased you from existence for such insolence against him.
But they were no longer in his kingdom, and you were no ordinary person, so he forced a smile before answering.
"Not really," he murmured. "It's just that I find it at least strange that you don't believe in those stories, as you call them, given your past."
Your eyes widened, and that's when he knew he'd hit the nail on the head.
"That's right, beautiful. I know exactly who you are, Iris, daughter of Zeus," he explained, resting his elbows on the table. "Why does the Allfather want to know my whereabouts? Does he require my help to destroy some poor mortal's life?"
"I should have known the glamour I wear wouldn't be of any use in hiding my identity from you," she muttered, surprised that he'd figured it out so quickly. "The Allfather is fine, Endless" you blurted out, exposing him as well. "He asked me to find you to deliver a message, since that's my job."
"Okay," he laced his fingers together, leaning dangerously close to you. "What is the content of said message?"
"Protect my daughter and you will be rewarded. Fail to do so and my wrath will fall upon you," you recited. "Sometimes he gets very dramatic"
"What or who should I protect you from?" he questioned. "And above all, why did he choose me?" he questioned. "Why not Desire or Despair?" They're better at this than I am.
"Maybe I want to see if the Destruction of the Endless can do anything other than destroy," you blurted out. He nodded, weighing your words in his mind.
"Okay," he agreed. "If that's what Zeus needs, then that's what it will be," he agreed. "I suppose you'll stay here for a while."
"You guess right."
"Then I just have one request," he whispered, nodding at you. "I want you to take off your glamour," he murmured politely. "You don't need it here." He shrugged. "Besides, your divine form can't be that impressive."
"Very funny, Destruction," you muttered, making him laugh.
So it was in that cabin in the middle of everywhere and nowhere at the same time, where you felt you had found a home.
↳ having the ability to destroy everything you touch all for the sake of protecting humanity, brings you on the radar of the Endless. More importantly, Destruction. A bond that blossomed then shatters, leaving the pieces to be picked up centuries later. (one shot)
