Day 112
Me Before You
by Jojo Moyes
Ps: major spoiler ahead
Right to die
If you've read the book or seen the movie you might be aware of its highly 'controversial' and conflicting end.
Is it controversial though ?
So, Will Traynor decides to end his life because he has lost faith in his existence after living an adventurous life and ending up as a quadriplegic after an accident.
His daily schedule involves enduring pain, insult, and living a life he doesn't deserves.
His condition is so critical that even mild fever can prove to be life threatening.
He wishes to prepone his death which is about to come sooner than later. He wishes to die sooner but peacefully, not twitching with pain.
Can you ask him to live ?
After knowing that he is going to die soon anyway and his life is full of pain.
What hope can you provide him ?
That every second of life is worth living even though you're not really living but simply existing.
I believe that a person has a right to die.
Yes, they must be given all the chances to live instead. They must be enlightened, talked to, listened to, and encouraged to live. But after all that if they still, with a sane adult mind, decide the suffering is just too much and a mere existence isn't worth all the pain, they have all the right to die.
A wish to die isn't suicide. Suicide is when you give up on life. When you have no hope left.
Sometimes its not about if we want to live or if we should live, its about if we can.
Assisted suicide is basically banned in the whole world except a few 5 to 6 countries. When in reality, it should be appreciated.
Unlike popular beliefs they don't help you to die at Dignitas. They help you to make sure you understand your choice.
Dignitas claims that when given a chance to die, 80% people who come for assisted suicide choose to live instead. They open their minds and realise that they still have some life left in them.
On contrary, since the world has banned assisted suicide and the word 'suicide' itself sounds derogatory, many people around the world give up on life, or live a life on containment if they open up since everybody tells them that suicide is not an option.
A person has a right to die, after them and us have fully ensured that they have no life left.
Thanks for reading !!
“Sometimes, Clark, you are pretty much the only thing that makes me want to get up in the morning.”
“There is not much that makes me happy any more, but you do.”
“You are scored on my heart, Clark. You were from the first day you walked in, with your ridiculous clothes and your bad jokes and your complete inability to ever hide a single thing you felt. You changed my life so much more than this money will ever change yours.”
“Don’t think of me too often. I don’t want to think of you getting all maudlin. Just live well. Just live.”
Love, Will

Use this one weird trick to beat Brexit.
Adrian: I'm gonna put a cookie in a burger.
Stixxay: Don't, that's playing god.
