This is the upright shrubby variety found mainly in the Western United States and Canada, but introduced elsewhere. Other varieties tend to have a prostrate habit. The variety is found at many spots within our garden, often planted by birds instead of humans. Photographed at Regional Parks Botanic Garden located in Tilden Regional Park near Berkeley, CA
